Exploring Constrained Type-2 fuzzy sets
Fuzzy logic has been widely used to model human reasoning thanks to its inherent capability of handling uncertainty. In particular, the introduction of Type-2 fuzzy sets added the possibility of expressing uncertainty even on the definition of the membership functions. Type-2 sets, however, don’t pose any restrictions on the continuity or convexity of their embedded sets while these properties may be desirable in certain contexts. To overcome this problem, Constrained Type-2 fuzzy sets have been proposed. In this paper, we focus on Interval Constrained Type-2 sets to see how their unique structure can be exploited to build a new inference process. This will set some ground work for future developments, such as the design of a new defuzzification process for Constrained Type-2 fuzzy systems
Analisis Hubungan Ipm dan Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Kabupaten/kota di Provinsi Sumatera Utara
The purpose of this research is to know term relation of human developmentindex (HDI) and economic growth regency/city in north of sumatera provinceduring the period 2004-2012.This research uses panel data, with method klassen typology to see benefitof regional, and cointegration test for to see long term relationship beetwen Humandevelopment index and growth of economic by using eviews programe 6.The result showed that by using klassen typology is 1 regency and 4 city forcategory quadrant I. meanwhile 8 regency and 1 city in quadrant II. And then 4regency and 2 city category in quadrant III. And also 12 regency and 1 citycategory in quadrant 4. From result of cointegration test showed a long termequilibrium relationship beetween Human development index and economic growth
Machine vibration monitoring for diagnostics through hypothesis testing
Nowadays, the subject of machine diagnostics is gathering growing interest in the research field as switching from a programmed to a preventive maintenance regime based on the real health conditions (i.e., condition-based maintenance) can lead to great advantages both in terms of safety and costs. Nondestructive tests monitoring the state of health are fundamental for this purpose. An effective form of condition monitoring is that based on vibration (vibration monitoring), which exploits inexpensive accelerometers to perform machine diagnostics. In this work, statistics and hypothesis testing will be used to build a solid foundation for damage detection by recognition of patterns in a multivariate dataset which collects simple time features extracted from accelerometric measurements. In this regard, data from high-speed aeronautical bearings were analyzed. These were acquired on a test rig built by the Dynamic and Identification Research Group (DIRG) of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. The proposed strategy was to reduce the multivariate dataset to a single index which the health conditions can be determined. This dimensionality reduction was initially performed using Principal Component Analysis, which proved to be a lossy compression. Improvement was obtained via Fisher’s Linear Discriminant Analysis, which finds the direction with maximum distance between the damaged and healthy indices. This method is still ineffective in highlighting phenomena that develop in directions orthogonal to the discriminant. Finally, a lossless compression was achieved using the Mahalanobis distance-based Novelty Indices, which was also able to compensate for possible latent confounding factors. Further, considerations about the confidence, the sensitivity, the curse of dimensionality, and the minimum number of samples were also tackled for ensuring statistical significance. The results obtained here were very good not only in terms of reduced amounts of missed and false alarms, but also considering the speed of the algorithms, their simplicity, and the full independence from human interaction, which make them suitable for real time implementation and integration in condition-based maintenance (CBM) regimes
In medio stat victus: Labor Demand Effects of an Increase in the Retirement Age
After falling for four decades, statutory retirement ages are increasing in most OECD countries. The labor market adjustment to these reforms has not yet been thoroughly investigated by the literature. We draw on a major pension reform that took place in Italy in December 2011 that increased the retirement age by up to six years for some categories of workers. We have access to a unique dataset validated by the Italian social security administration (INPS), which identifies in each private firm, based on an administrative exam of eligibility conditions, how many workers were locked in by the sudden increase in the retirement age, and for how long. We find that firms mostly affected by the lock in are those that were downsizing even before the policy shock. The increase in the retirement age seems to displace more middle-aged workers than young workers. Furthermore, there is not a one-to-one increase in the number of older workers in the firms where some workers were locked in by the reform. We provide tentative explanations for these results, based on the interaction between retirement, employment protection legislation and liquidity constraints of firms
Update of High Resolution (e,e'K^+) Hypernuclear Spectroscopy at Jefferson Lab's Hall A
Updated results of the experiment E94-107 hypernuclear spectroscopy in Hall A
of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab), are
presented. The experiment provides high resolution spectra of excitation energy
for 12B_\Lambda, 16N_\Lambda, and 9Li_\Lambda hypernuclei obtained by
electroproduction of strangeness. A new theoretical calculation for
12B_\Lambda, final results for 16N_\Lambda, and discussion of the preliminary
results of 9Li_\Lambda are reported.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, submitted to the proceedings of Hyp-X Conferenc
Dominant BIN1-related centronuclear myopathy (CNM) revealed by lower limb myalgia and moderate CK elevation
We report a BIN1-related CNM family with unusual clinical phenotype. The proband, a 56-year-old man suffered of lower limbs myalgia since the age of 52. Clinical examination showed short stature, mild symmetric eyelid ptosis without ophthalmoplegia, scapular winging and Achilles tendon retraction. A muscle weakness was not noted. CK levels were up to 350 UI/L. Deltoid muscle biopsy showed nuclear centralization and clustering, deep sarcolemmal invaginations and type 1 fiber hypotrophy. Whole body MRI revealed fatty infiltration of posterior legs compartments, lumbar paraspinal and serratus muscles. Myotonic dystrophy type1 and 2, Pompe disease and MTM1 and DNM2-related CNM were ruled out. By sequencing BIN1, we identified a heterozygous pathogenic mutation [c.107C > A (p.A36E)], and we demonstrate that the mutation strongly impairs the membrane tubulation property of the protein. One affected sister carried the same mutation. Her clinical examination and muscle MRI revealed a similar phenotype. Our findings expand the clinical and genetic spectrum of the autosomal dominant CNM associated with BIN1 mutations
Albert algebras over Z and other rings
Albert algebras, a specific kind of Jordan algebra, are naturally
distinguished objects among commutative non-associative algebras and also arise
naturally in the context of simple affine group schemes of type , ,
or . We study these objects over an arbitrary base ring , with
particular attention to the case of the integers. We prove in this generality
results previously in the literature in the special case where is a field
of characteristic different from 2 and 3.Comment: v2: section 12 on number of generators is new, Theorem 13.5 now holds
for semi-local rings (and even a somewhat wider class
