The design of and academic arrangement strategy from a methodological approach for language bachelors with no formation in mathematics in “Gimnasio los Pinos” and the application of the method on the teachers from the second cycle to the guidance of teacher who have not expertise in mathematics but that have a second language. It allowed to give the academic institution an academic arrangement strategy from a methodological approach for teaching mathematics in elementary level that brings support to the non-mathematics bilingual teachers‟ formation in the pedagogical task, generating integral policies of support for a renewed interest in the diverse applications of the mathematical knowledge. The methodological proposal main features are: clarity in its purposes for teachers; active methodologies in accordance to what is wanted for the teacher use with the students, and immediate applicability

Elevated expression levels of lysyl oxidases protect against aortic aneurysm progression in Marfan syndrome

© 2015 Elsevier Ltd. Patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) are at high risk of life-threatening aortic dissections. The condition is caused by mutations in the gene encoding fibrillin-1, an essential component in the formation of elastic fibers. While experimental findings in animal models of the disease have shown the involvement of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)- and angiotensin II-dependent pathways, alterations in the vascular extracellular matrix (ECM) may also play a role in the onset and progression of the aortic disease. Lysyl oxidases (LOX) are extracellular enzymes, which initiates the formation of covalent cross-linking of collagens and elastin, thereby contributing to the maturation of the ECM. Here we have explored the role of LOX in the formation of aortic aneurysms in MFS. We show that aortic tissue from MFS patients and MFS mouse model (Fbn1C1039G/+) displayed enhanced expression of the members of the LOX family, LOX and LOX-like 1 (LOXL1), and this is associated with the formation of mature collagen fibers. Administration of a LOX inhibitor for 8weeks blocked collagen accumulation and aggravated elastic fiber impairment, and these effects correlated with the induction of a strong and rapidly progressing aortic dilatation, and with premature death in the more severe MFS mouse model, Fbn1mgR/mgR, without any significant effect on wild type animals. This detrimental effect occurred preferentially in the ascending portion of the aorta, with little or no involvement of the aortic root, and was associated to an overactivation of both canonical and non-canonical TGF-β signaling pathways. The blockade of angiotensin II type I receptor with losartan restored TGF-β signaling activation, normalized elastic fiber impairment and prevented the aortic dilatation induced by LOX inhibition in Fbn1C1039G/+ mice. Our data indicate that LOX enzymes and LOX-mediated collagen accumulation play a critical protective role in aneurysm formation in MFS.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Plan Nacional de I + D + I: SAF2012-34916), and Comunidad Autónoma deMadrid: 2010-BMD2321, FIBROTEAMConsortium, to F.R-P.; Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Smilow Center for Marfan Syndrome Research, The Marfan Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health (AR41135 and AR049698) to H.C.D.; and Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (Plan Nacional de I + D + I: BFU2012- 33932), Fundación Ramón Areces and the National Marfan FoundationPeer Reviewe

ELIRF at MEDIAEVAL 2013: Similar Segments of Social Speech Task

This paper describes the Natural Language Engineering and Pattern Recognition group (ELiRF) approaches and results towards the Similar Segments of Social Speech Task of Me- diaEval 2013. The task involves finding segments similar to a query segment in a multimedia collection of informal, un- structured dialogs among members of a small community. Our approach has two phases. In a first phase a preprocess of the sentences is performed based on the morphology and semantics of the words. In a second phase, a searching pro- cess based on different distance measures is carried out. This has been done taking the correctly transcribed sentences and the output of an Automatic Speech Recognizer.Work funded by the Spanish Government and the E.U. under the contracts TIN2011-28169-C05 and TIN2012-38603- C02, and FPU Grant AP2010-4193García Granada, F.; Sanchís Arnal, E.; Calvo Lance, M.; Pla Santamaría, F.; Hurtado Oliver, LF. Monitoring of misalignment in low speed geared shafts with acoustic emission sensors

The most common condition monitoring method applied to rotating machines is vibration measurement, although recently it has been proposed that acoustic emission (AE) offers additional advantages in early fault detection and low speed rotation systems. Capturing the AE signals is conditioned by the severe attenuation with distance and the presence of material discontinuities between source and sensor, therefore measurement device placement is more important than in traditional accelerometry. In this study AE signals are measured in gearboxes at misalignment conditions for the revision of signal characteristics from the generated signal due to the interaction of shafts, bearings and gears. For this purpose, several tests are performed using combinations of speed and varying load, considering the effect of lubricating oil temperature. Fixed measurements are taken over the bench supports, and on-board, where the sensors are rotating with the shafts. In parallel to acoustic emission a vibration analysis is done in order to contrast and analyze differences between both technologies at different operation states. Acquired data is processed to obtain statistical parameters from measurements in order to verify the values and tendencies due to transient phenomena related to changes in speed and load. AE provides better results than vibration employing the same time domain condition indicators. On the contrary, vibration recognizes clearly the fault through frequency analysis. This work has been supported by project DPI2017-85390-P funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology and RM16-XX012 PredictEA project funded by SODERCAN
