ILC Operating Scenarios
The ILC Technical Design Report documents the design for the construction of
a linear collider which can be operated at energies up to 500 GeV. This report
summarizes the outcome of a study of possible running scenarios, including a
realistic estimate of the real time accumulation of integrated luminosity based
on ramp-up and upgrade processes. The evolution of the physics outcomes is
emphasized, including running initially at 500 GeV, then at 350 GeV and 250
GeV. The running scenarios have been chosen to optimize the Higgs precision
measurements and top physics while searching for evidence for signals beyond
the standard model, including dark matter. In addition to the certain precision
physics on the Higgs and top that is the main focus of this study, there are
scientific motivations that indicate the possibility for discoveries of new
particles in the upcoming operations of the LHC or the early operation of the
ILC. Follow-up studies of such discoveries could alter the plan for the
centre-of-mass collision energy of the ILC and expand the scientific impact of
the ILC physics program. It is envisioned that a decision on a possible energy
upgrade would be taken near the end of the twenty year period considered in
this report
Simple scheme for two-qubit Grover search in cavity QED
Following the proposal by F. Yamaguchi et al.[Phys. Rev. A 66, 010302 (R)
(2002)], we present an alternative way to implement the two-qubit Grover search
algorithm in cavity QED. Compared with F. Yamaguchi et al.'s proposal, with a
strong resonant classical field added, our method is insensitive to both the
cavity decay and thermal field, and doesn't require that the cavity remain in
the vacuum state throughout the procedure. Moreover, the qubit definitions are
the same for both atoms, which makes the experiment easier. The strictly
numerical simulation shows that our proposal is good enough to demonstrate a
two-qubit Grover's search with high fidelity.Comment: manuscript 10 pages, 2 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
A remarkable recurrent nova in M 31: The 2010 eruption recovered and evidence of a six-month period
The Andromeda Galaxy recurrent nova M31N 2008-12a has been caught in eruption
nine times. Six observed eruptions in the seven years from 2008 to 2014
suggested a duty cycle of ~1 year, which makes this the most rapidly recurring
system known and the leading single-degenerate Type Ia Supernova progenitor
candidate; but no 2010 eruption has been found so far. Here we present evidence
supporting the recovery of the 2010 eruption, based on archival images taken at
and around the time. We detect the 2010 eruption in a pair of images at 2010
Nov 20.52 UT, with a magnitude of m_R = 17.84 +/- 0.19. The sequence of seven
eruptions shows significant indications of a duty cycle slightly shorter than
one year, which makes successive eruptions occur progressively earlier in the
year. We compared three archival X-ray detections with the well observed
multi-wavelength light curve of the 2014 eruption to accurately constrain the
time of their optical peaks. The results imply that M31N 2008-12a might have in
fact a recurrence period of ~6 months (175 +/- 11 days), making it even more
exceptional. If this is the case, then we predict that soon two eruptions per
year will be observable. Furthermore, we predict the next eruption will occur
around late Sep 2015. We encourage additional observations.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables; submitted to A&A Letter
Detection of genuinely entangled and non-separable -partite quantum states
We investigate the detection of entanglement in -partite quantum states.
We obtain practical separability criteria to identify genuinely entangled and
non-separable mixed quantum states. No numerical optimization or eigenvalue
evaluation is needed, and our criteria can be evaluated by simple computations
involving components of the density matrix. We provide examples in which our
criteria perform better than all known separability criteria. Specifically, we
are able to detect genuine -partite entanglement which has previously not
been identified. In addition, our criteria can be used in today's experiment.Comment: 8 pages, one figur
Generation of N-qubit W state with rf-SQUID qubits by adiabatic passage
A simple scheme is presented to generate n-qubit W state with
rf-superconducting quantum interference devices (rf-SQUIDs) in cavity QED
through adiabatic passage. Because of the achievable strong coupling for
rf-SQUID qubits embedded in cavity QED, we can get the desired state with high
success probability. Furthermore, the scheme is insensitive to position
inaccuracy of the rf-SQUIDs. The numerical simulation shows that, by using
present experimental techniques, we can achieve our scheme with very high
success probability, and the fidelity could be eventually unity with the help
of dissipation.Comment: to appear in Phys. Rev.
Theory of ac electrokinetic behavior of spheroidal cell suspensions with an intrinsic dispersion
The dielectric dispersion, dielectrophoretic (DEP) and electrorotational (ER)
spectra of spheroidal biological cell suspensions with an intrinsic dispersion
in the constituent dielectric constants are investigated. By means of the
spectral representation method, we express analytically the characteristic
frequencies and dispersion strengths both for the effective dielectric constant
and the Clausius-Mossotti factor (CMF). We identify four and six characteristic
frequencies for the effective dielectric spectra and CMF respectively, all of
them being dependent on the depolarization factor (or the cell shape). The
analytical results allow us to examine the effects of the cell shape, the
dispersion strength and the intrinsic frequency on the dielectric dispersion,
DEP and ER spectra. Furthermore, we include the local-field effects due to the
mutual interactions between cells in a dense suspension, and study the
dependence of co-field or anti-field dispersion peaks on the volume fractions.Comment: accepted by Phys. Rev.
Extending twin support vector machine classifier for multi-category classification problems
© 2013 – IOS Press and the authors. All rights reservedTwin support vector machine classifier (TWSVM) was proposed by Jayadeva et al., which was used for binary classification
problems. TWSVM not only overcomes the difficulties in handling the problem of exemplar unbalance in binary classification problems, but also it is four times faster in training a classifier than classical support vector machines. This paper proposes one-versus-all twin support vector machine classifiers (OVA-TWSVM) for multi-category classification problems by utilizing the strengths of TWSVM. OVA-TWSVM extends TWSVM to solve k-category classification problems by developing k TWSVM where in the ith TWSVM, we only solve the Quadratic Programming Problems (QPPs) for the ith class, and get the ith nonparallel hyperplane corresponding to the ith class data. OVA-TWSVM uses the well known one-versus-all (OVA) approach to construct a corresponding twin support vector machine classifier. We analyze the efficiency of the OVA-TWSVM theoretically, and perform experiments to test its efficiency on both synthetic data sets and several benchmark data sets from the UCI machine learning repository. Both the theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that OVA-TWSVM can outperform the traditional OVA-SVMs classifier. Further experimental comparisons with other multiclass classifiers demonstrated that comparable performance could be achieved. This work is supported in part by the grant

Combining Thesaurus Knowledge and Probabilistic Topic Models
In this paper we present the approach of introducing thesaurus knowledge into
probabilistic topic models. The main idea of the approach is based on the
assumption that the frequencies of semantically related words and phrases,
which are met in the same texts, should be enhanced: this action leads to their
larger contribution into topics found in these texts. We have conducted
experiments with several thesauri and found that for improving topic models, it
is useful to utilize domain-specific knowledge. If a general thesaurus, such as
WordNet, is used, the thesaurus-based improvement of topic models can be
achieved with excluding hyponymy relations in combined topic models.Comment: Accepted to AIST-2017 conference (http://aistconf.ru/). The final
