The fabrication of potentiometric membrane sensors and their applications
Ionophore-incorporated PVC-membrane sensors are well-established analytical tools routinely used for the selective and direct measurement of a wide variety of different ions in complex biological and environmental samples. The key ingredient of such plasticized PVC-members is the involved ionophore, defining the selectivity of the electrodes complex formation with the cation of interest. In the past few years, the development of new ion-selective electrodes for various ions has been reported inthe literature
Interaction between M2-branes and Bulk Form Fields
We construct the interaction terms between the world-volume fields of
multiple M2-branes and the 3- and 6-form fields in the context of ABJM theory
with U()U() gauge symmetry. A consistency check is made in the
simplest case of a single M2-brane, i.e, our construction matches the known
effective action of M2-brane coupled to antisymmetric 3-form field. We show
that when dimensionally reduced, our couplings coincide with the effective
action of D2-branes coupled to R-R 3- and 5-form fields in type IIA string
theory. We also comment on the relation between a coupling with a specific
6-form field configuration and the supersymmetry preserving mass deformation in
ABJM theory.Comment: 30 pages, version to appear in JHE
Non-relativistic Matrix Inflation
We reconsider a string theoretic inflationary model, where inflation is
driven by multiple coincident -branes in the finite limit. We show
that the finite action can be continued to the limit of large , where it
converges to the action for a wrapped -brane with units of U(1) flux.
This provides an important consistency check of the scenario and allows for
more control over certain back-reaction effects. We determine the most general
form of the action for a specific sub-class of models and examine the
non-relativistic limits of the theory where the branes move at speeds much less
than the speed of light. The non-Abelian nature of the world-volume theory
implies that the inflaton field is matrix valued and this results in
modifications to the slow-roll parameters and Hubble-flow equations. A specific
small field model of inflation is investigated where the branes move out of an
AdS throat, and observational constraints are employed to place bounds on the
background fluxes.Comment: 25 page
Notes for genera: basal clades of Fungi (including Aphelidiomycota, Basidiobolomycota, Blastocladiomycota, Calcarisporiellomycota, Caulochytriomycota, Chytridiomycota, Entomophthoromycota, Glomeromycota, Kickxellomycota, Monoblepharomycota, Mortierellomycota, Mucoromycota, Neocallimastigomycota, Olpidiomycota, Rozellomycota and Zoopagomycota)
Compared to the higher fungi (Dikarya), taxonomic and evolutionary studies on the basal clades of fungi are fewer in number. Thus, the generic boundaries and higher ranks in the basal clades of fungi are poorly known. Recent DNA based taxonomic studies have provided reliable and accurate information. It is therefore necessary to compile all available information since basal clades genera lack updated checklists or outlines. Recently, Tedersoo et al. (MycoKeys 13:1--20, 2016) accepted Aphelidiomycota and Rozellomycota in Fungal clade. Thus, we regard both these phyla as members in Kingdom Fungi. We accept 16 phyla in basal clades viz. Aphelidiomycota, Basidiobolomycota, Blastocladiomycota, Calcarisporiellomycota, Caulochytriomycota, Chytridiomycota, Entomophthoromycota, Glomeromycota, Kickxellomycota, Monoblepharomycota, Mortierellomycota, Mucoromycota, Neocallimastigomycota, Olpidiomycota, Rozellomycota and Zoopagomycota. Thus, 611 genera in 153 families, 43 orders and 18 classes are provided with details of classification, synonyms, life modes, distribution, recent literature and genomic data. Moreover, Catenariaceae Couch is proposed to be conserved, Cladochytriales Mozl.-Standr. is emended and the family Nephridiophagaceae is introduced
Ion recognition: application of symmetric and asymmetric schiff bases and their complexes for the fabrication of cationic and anionic membrane sensors to determine ions in real samples
Schiff base compounds refer to the branch of supra-molecules and can be used as sensing material in the construction of potentiometric ion selective electrodes (ISEs). This relatively modern field has been subject to extensive research in the period of 1999-2007 when more than 100 ISEs employing Schiff bases were constructed. The quantitative high-throughput detection of 29 cations and 7 anions has been demonstrated in various scientific branches, such as biomedicine, pharmacy, biochemistry, pharmacology, environmental chemistry, food technology, and agriculture. This review discusses Schiff base compounds and their applications in the design and development of ion selective sensors and microsensors
novel potentiometric membrane sensor for the determination of trace amounts of chromium ions
A plasticized Cr3+ ion sensor by incorporating 2,3,8,9-tetraphenyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododeca-1,3,7,9-tetraene (TTCT) ionophore exhibits a good potentiometric response for Cr3+ over a wide concentration range (1.0 x 10(-6) - 1.0 x 10(-1) M) with a slope of 19.5 mV per decade. The sensor response is stable for at least three months. Good selectivity for Cr3+ in comparison with alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions, and minimal interference are caused by Li+, Na+, K+, Co2+, Hg2+, Ca2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+ ions, which are known to interfere with other chromium membrane sensors. The TTCT-based electrode shows a fast response time (15 s), and can be used in aqueous solutions of pH 3 - 5.5. The proposed sensor was used for the potentiometric titration of Cr3+ with EDTA and for a direct potentiometric determination of Cr3+ content in environmental samples
Optimization of Sample Preparation Procedure for Evaluation of Occupational and Environmental Exposure to Nickel
Background: Nickel is an important constituents widely used in different industrial processes for production of various syn¬thetic materials. For evaluation of workers’ exposure to trace toxic metal of Ni (II), environmental and biological monitor¬ing are essential processes, in which, preparation of samples is one of the most time-consuming and error-prone as¬pects prior to analysis. "nMethods: To evaluate factors influencing quantitative analysis scheme of nickel, solid phase extraction using mini columns filled with XAD-2 resin was optimized with regard to sample pH, ligand concentration, loading flow rate, elution solvent, sam¬ple volume (up to 500 ml), elution volume, amount of resins, and sample matrix interferences. Nickel ion was retained on solid sorbent and was eluted with followed by simple determination of analytes by using flame atomic absorption spectrome¬tery. "nResults: Obtained recoveries of metal ion were more than 92%. The amount of the analyte detected after simultaneous pre-concen¬tration was basically in agreement with the added amounts. The optimized procedure was also validated with three differ¬ent pools of spiked urine samples and showed a good reproducibility over six consecutive days as well as six within-day experiments. The developed method promised to be applicable for evaluation of other metal ions present in different environ¬mental and occupational samples as suitable results were obtained for relative standard deviation (less than 10%). "nConclusion: This optimized method can be considered to be successful in simplifying sample preparation for trace residue analy¬sis of Ni in different matrices for evaluation of both occupational and environmental exposures
