The Ultimate Solution to the Quantum Battle of the Sexes game
We present the unique solution to the Quantum Battle of the Sexes game. We
show the best result which can be reached when the game is played according to
Marinatto and Weber's scheme. The result which we put forward does not
surrender the criticism of previous works on the same topic.Comment: 8 page
Affine symmetry in mechanics of collective and internal modes. Part I. Classical models
Discussed is a model of collective and internal degrees of freedom with
kinematics based on affine group and its subgroups. The main novelty in
comparison with the previous attempts of this kind is that it is not only
kinematics but also dynamics that is affinely-invariant. The relationship with
the dynamics of integrable one-dimensional lattices is discussed. It is shown
that affinely-invariant geodetic models may encode the dynamics of something
like elastic vibrations
The effect of Fucus vesiculosus, an edible brown seaweed, upon menstrual cycle length and hormonal status in three pre-menopausal women: a case report
BACKGROUND: Rates of estrogen-dependent cancers are among the highest in Western countries and lower in the East. These variations may be attributable to differences in dietary exposures such as higher seaweed consumption among Asian populations. The edible brown kelp, Fucus vesiculosus (bladderwrack), as well as other brown kelp species, lower plasma cholesterol levels. Since cholesterol is a precursor to sex hormone biosynthesis, kelp consumption may alter circulating sex hormone levels and menstrual cycling patterns. In particular, dietary kelp may be beneficial to women with or at high risk for estrogen-dependent diseases. To test this, bladderwrack was administered to three pre-menopausal women with abnormal menstrual cycling patterns and/or menstrual-related disease histories. CASE PRESENTATION: Intake of bladderwrack was associated with significant increases in menstrual cycle lengths, ranging from an increase of 5.5 to 14 days. In addition, hormone measurements ascertained for one woman revealed significant anti-estrogenic and progestagenic effects following kelp administration. Mean baseline 17β-estradiol levels were reduced from 626 ± 91 to 164 ± 30 pg/ml (P = 0.04) following 700 mg/d, which decreased further to 92.5.0 ± 3.5pg/ml (P = 0.03) with the1.4 g/d dose. Mean baseline progesterone levels rose from 0.58 ± 0.14 to 8.4 ± 2.6 ng/ml with the 700 mg/d dose (P = 0.1), which increased further to 16.8 ± 0.7 ng/ml with the 1.4 g/d dose (P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: These pilot data suggest that dietary bladderwrack may prolong the length of the menstrual cycle and exert anti-estrogenic effects in pre-menopausal women. Further, these studies also suggest that seaweed may be another important dietary component apart from soy that is responsible for the reduced risk of estrogen-related cancers observed in Japanese populations. However, these studies will need to be performed in well-controlled clinical trials to confirm these preliminary findings
Students nutrients intake and risk of cardiovascular diseases
wieku 22-24 lata. Stwierdzono, iż badane osoby wraz z racją pokarmową dostarczały średnio 2029 kcal/osobę/dzień (86%
normy). Średnie spożycie tłuszczu ogółem wyniosło 75,2 g/osobę/dzień (33% spożytej energii), cholesterolu 304 mg/osobę/
dzień, błonnika pokarmowego 19,6 g/osobę/dzień, potasu 2996 mg/osobę/dzień (85% minimalnej normy spożycia), sodu z
produktów spożywczych 2199 mg/osobę/dzień oraz soli kuchennej po uwzględnieniu dosalania 8,8 g/osobę/dzień. W wyniku
pomiarów antropometrycznych młodzież akademicka uzyskała średnią wartość wskaźnika BMI na poziomie 22,0 kg/m2;
zawartość tłuszczu i wody w organizmie badanych osób wyniosła odpowiednio: 25,8% i 53,0%. Średnia wartość ciśnienia
krwi badanych studentów wyniosła 114/76 mm Hg, natomiast pulsu 74 uderzeń/minutę. W wyniku analiz statystycznych
stwierdzono istotnie wyższe spożycie białka wśród osób z prawidłową masą ciała (o 17%) w porównaniu do badanych z
skurczowe ciśnienie krwi (o 5,2%) wśród osób z BMI > 25,0 kg/m2 w porównaniu do osób z BMI = 20-24,9 kg/m2. Wykazano
występowanie dodatnich korelacji pomiędzy wartością wskaźnika BMI a zawartością tłuszczu, spożyciem błonnika
pokarmowego i potasu oraz skurczowego ciśnienie krwi wśród badanej grupy młodzieży akademickiej. Dodatnie korelacje
otrzymano również pomiędzy pomiarem skurczowego ciśnienia krwi a rozkurczowym ciśnieniem, spożyciem cholesterolu,
nasyconych kwasów tłuszczowych i podażą energii w racjach pokarmowych badanych studentów.The aim of this study was to assess nutrients intake and to take some anthropometric measures relevant to the risk of
cardiovascular diseases. The study was conducted in spring 2008 among 93 students of SGGW aged 22-24. Obtained results
indicated that the mean energy intake was 2029 kcal/per person/day (86% of recommended level), fat – 75.2 g/per person/day
(33% intake of energy), cholesterol 304 mg/per person/day, dietary fiber 19.6 g/per person/day, potassium 2996 mg/per
person/day (85% of recommended level), sodium from products – 2199 mg/per person/day and salt – 8.8 g/per person/day.
The mean Body Mass Index (BMI) of students was 22.0 kg/m2, fat content and water in body were respectively: 25.8% and
53.0%, the mean blood pressure was 114/76 mm Hg and pulse 74 beats/per minute. Statistical analysis showed significantly
higher intake of protein (by 17%) in people with adequate body mass than in students with malnutrition, and higher intake
of dietary fiber (by 25%), potassium (by 21.3%) and NaCl (by 31.1%) in obese participants than in people with adequate
body mass. Data showed significantly higher fat content in body (by 26.6%) and higher systolic blood pressure (by 5.2%)
in students with BMI >25.0 kg/m2 than in students with BMI = 20.0-24.9 kg/m2. Statistical analysis showed positive correlation
between value of BMI and fat content in body, intake of dietary fiber, intake of potassium and systolic blood pressure
among students of SGGW. Positive correlation was obtained also between measure systolic blood pressure and diastolic
blood pressure, intake of cholesterol, intake of saturated fatty acid and intake of energy among participants
Energy and selected nutrients contents in pre-school children diet of Warsowia district.
Celem pracy była ocena zawartości energii i wybranych składników w racjach pokarmowych przedszkoli województwa
mazowieckiego. W badaniu uczestniczyło 5 przedszkoli z Żyrardowa, Dziekanowa, Warszawy, Łomianek i Nowej Iwicznej.
Ocenie poddano 5 dekadowych jadłospisów z okresu wiosennego. We wszystkich analizowanych w niniejszej pracy jadłospisach
prawidłowa ilość energii i badanych składników była przekroczona. Większość całodziennych racji przedszkolnych
zawierała zbyt dużą ilość energii z tłuszczu i białka, zaś z węglowodanów zbyt małą. Zaplanowane żywienie przedszkolne
było nieprawidłowo zbilansowane pod względem energii i składników.The aim of this study was the evaluation of energy and selected nutrients content in 10 days menus (spring period)
from 5 kindergartens situated in mazowiecki district. The kindergartens were located in Żyrardów, Dziekanów, Warsaw,
Łomianki and Nowa Iwiczna. It was shown that amount of energy and macronutrients was unproper. Most of the food rations
contained too much energy, from fat and protein, and too little from carbohydrates. Planned pre-school nutrition was
not balanced properly in the meaning of energy and nutrients amount
