Models for the teaching technical translation

    No full text
The comparison of texts and their translations, including translation variants, is an important branch of applied constrastive studies (linguistics, translation) as well as the education of translators. Contrastive studies have to compare and explain language use including social, communicative, and pragmatic factors rather than mere usage. This implies that utterances must be taken as units of comparison and that it is imperative to interpret them within the wider context in which they are placed. Agency-Theorie - Grundlagen und Anwendungen fuer die Unternehmensfuehrung

    No full text
The agency theory deals with the relationship between principal and agent. The principal is the person or party who engages another party - the agent - to act on behalf of him (delegation of decision-making). Concerning management problems this can be the order-relation between owner of the firm and CEO (manager) or between superior (head of a department) and subordinated (member of the department). Basic-problem is the fact, that the agent has own goals, which can be different from those of the principal, and that the principal is not perfect informed about the agent and his actions. In this paper, first a general description of the agency theory, and the information problems as well as solution-approaches belonging to it is provided. On this basis, for the solution-way of incentives by result-depending income, an agency model for the design of the incentives-system is described. By setting additional premisses this model is turned into the more concrete form of the LEN-Model. Finally these model-investigations are used to deduce general advices for the design of incentive-compatible compensation plans. The use of spreadsheets for optimizing coal washing through coordination of unit operations

    No full text
To maximize plant yield, much attention is spent on optimizing the unit operations involved in a coal washing process. Co-ordinating optimized unit operations in an appropriate way reveals potential for further improvement. For a process consisting of heavy medium separation and flotation, the mathematical procedure is described in detail. The method was developed specifically for spreadsheet application, making it easily accessible for less computer-experienced operators. Other applications are discussed, indicating that the method described can be a useful tool for decision-making.
