Tensor Generalizations of Affine Symmetry Vectors
A definition is suggested for affine symmetry tensors, which generalize the
notion of affine vectors in the same way that (conformal) Killing tensors
generalize (conformal) Killing vectors. An identity for these tensors is
proved, which gives the second derivative of the tensor in terms of the
curvature tensor, generalizing a well-known identity for affine vectors.
Additionally, the definition leads to a good definition of homothetic tensors.
The inclusion relations between these types of tensors are exhibited. The
relationship between affine symmetry tensors and solutions to the equation of
geodesic deviation is clarified, again extending known results about Killing
tensors.Comment: 11 page
Harmonic coordinates in the string and membrane equations
In this note, we first show that the solutions to Cauchy problems for two
versions of relativistic string and membrane equations are diffeomorphic. Then
we investigate the coordinates transformation presented in Ref. [9] (see (2.20)
in Ref. [9]) which plays an important role in the study on the dynamics of the
motion of string in Minkowski space. This kind of transformed coordinates are
harmonic coordinates, and the nonlinear relativistic string equations can be
straightforwardly simplified into linear wave equations under this
transformation
PUBH 4090 - Selected Topics in Public Health: Seminar in Addiction & Recovery
This course is an intensive evaluation of all the issues involved in both addiction and recovery, with a special focus on community health through service-learning. Students are expected to be present at every class session
Public Recreation Management, Reasons and Restraints
It seems that most everyone these days is interested in, and demanding better and more effective management from the public sector. After serious deceptions at the highest level of government in the early 1970\u27s citizens are somewhat more demanding in the accountability of government institutions, and individuals, on all levels. Enthusiasm and interest in good public management is one thing, however, understanding the nature of it, to say nothing of achieving it, is another.
Management concepts in the public sector, including specific strategies applicable to public parks and Recreation, differ quite dramatically from management in private business and industry. These sometimes subtle variations in administrative technique, restrictions and restraints on effective management, spell the difference between good public response and poor public perception and response in many human service areas. This article discusses public vs. private management with strategic applications to public recreation
On the Stability of Black Holes at the LHC
The eventual production of mini black holes by proton-proton collisions at
the LHC is predicted by theories with large extra dimensions resolvable at the
Tev scale of energies. It is expected that these black holes evaporate shortly
after its production as a consequence of the Hawking radiation. We show that
for theories based on the ADS/CFT correspondence, the produced black holes may
have an unstable horizon, which grows proportionally to the square of the
distance to the collision point.Comment: 3 page

One-loop Effective Action of the Holographic Antisymmetric Wilson Loop
We systematically study the spectrum of excitations and the one-loop
determinant of holographic Wilson loop operators in antisymmetric
representations of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory.
Holographically, these operators are described by D5-branes carrying electric
flux and wrapping an in the bulk
background. We derive the dynamics of both bosonic and fermionic excitations
for such D5-branes. A particularly important configuration in this class is the
D5-brane with worldvolume and units of electric flux,
which is dual to the circular Wilson loop in the totally antisymmetric
representation of rank . For this Wilson loop, we obtain the spectrum, show
explicitly that it is supersymmetric and calculate the one-loop effective
action using heat kernel techniques.Comment: 42 pages, one tabl
Helicoidal surfaces with constant anisotropic mean curvature
We study surfaces with constant anisotropic mean curvature which are
invariant under a helicoidal motion. For functionals with axially symmetric
Wulff shapes, we generalize the recently developed twizzler representation of
Perdomo to the anisotropic case and show how all helicoidal constant
anisotropic mean curvature surfaces can be obtained by quadratures
Teachers\u27 Financial Literacy Knowledge and Self-Efficacy: A Phenomenological Study
The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to discover the experiences and self-efficacy beliefs related to financial literacy knowledge for educators in the United States. The theory guiding the study was self-efficacy as it explained how one’s belief in abilities is shaped by their unique background, experiences, and knowledge. The central research question was what are the experiences and self-efficacy beliefs of educators who teach financial literacy? The study aimed to understand the perspectives of teachers as it related to financial knowledge and self-efficacy. A purposive sample, with ten to fifteen participants, were selected based on the criteria that financial literacy was taught as a standalone course or integrated within a current subject. The sites for this study were schools and universities located throughout the United States. Data was collected through interviews, letter-writing, and a focus group. The data was coded and analyzed to determine themes between the participants’ responses throughout the three data collection methods. The data was analyzed using an inductive coding approach followed by grouping codes into themes. Five themes emerged from this study: (1) avenues for learning about financial literacy, (2) applicable topics are easiest, (3) complex topics are most challenging, (4) confident regardless of background, and (5) mixed desires for professional development. The findings revealed areas for additional professional development for financial literacy teachers, the need for personalized professional development, and the factors affecting teachers’ confidence levels with financial literacy
