Singular Liouville fields and spiky strings in \rr^{1,2} and SL(2,\rr)
The closed string dynamics in \rr^{1,2} and SL(2,\rr) is studied within
the scheme of Pohlmeyer reduction. In both spaces two different classes of
string surfaces are specified by the structure of the fundamental quadratic
forms. The first class in \rr^{1,2} is associated with the standard lightcone
gauge strings and the second class describes spiky strings and their conformal
deformations on the Virasoro coadjoint orbits. These orbits correspond to
singular Liouville fields with the monodromy matrixes . The first class
in SL(2,\rr) is parameterized by the Liouville fields with vanishing chiral
energy functional. Similarly to \rr^{1,2}, the second class in SL(2,\rr)
describes spiky strings, related to the vacuum configurations of the
SL(2,\rr)/U(1) coset model.Comment: 37 p. 6 fi
FZZ Scattering
We study the duality between the two dimensional black hole and the
sine-Liouville conformal field theories via exact operator quantization of a
classical scattering problem. The ideas are first illustrated in Liouville
theory, which is dual to itself under the interchange of the Liouville
parameter b by 1/b. In both cases, a classical scattering problem does not
determine uniquely the quantum reflection coefficient. The latter is only fixed
by assuming that the dual scattering problem has the same reflection
coefficient. We also discuss the relation of this approach to the method that
exploits the parafermionic symmetry of the model to compute the reflection

Discrete symmetry's chains and links between integrable equations
The discrete symmetry's dressing chains of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation
(NLS) and Davey-Stewartson equations (DS) are consider. The modified NLS (mNLS)
equation and the modified DS (mDS) equations are obtained. The explicitly
reversible Backlund auto-transformations for the mNLS and mDS equations are
constructed. We demonstrate discrete symmetry's conjugate chains of the KP and
DS models. The two-dimensional generalization of the P4 equation are obtained.Comment: 20 page
Dimensional Reduction of Gravity and Relation between Static States, Cosmologies and Waves
We introduce generalized dimensional reductions of an integrable
1+1-dimensional dilaton gravity coupled to matter down to one-dimensional
static states (black holes in particular), cosmological models and waves. An
unusual feature of these reductions is the fact that the wave solutions depend
on two variables - space and time. They are obtained here both by reducing the
moduli space (available due to complete integrability) and by a generalized
separation of variables (applicable also to non integrable models and to higher
dimensional theories). Among these new wave-like solutions we have found a
class of solutions for which the matter fields are finite everywhere in
space-time, including infinity.
These considerations clearly demonstrate that a deep connection exists
between static states, cosmologies and waves. We argue that it should exist in
realistic higher-dimensional theories as well. Among other things we also
briefly outline the relations existing betweenthe low-dimensional models that
we have discussed hereand the realistic higher-dimensional ones.
This paper develops further some ideas already present in our previous

Systematics of Inclusive Photon Production in 158 AGeV Pb Induced Reactions on Ni, Nb, and Pb Targets
The multiplicity of inclusive photons has been measured on an event-by-event
basis for 158 AGeV Pb induced reactions on Ni, Nb, and Pb targets. The
systematics of the pseudorapidity densities at midrapidity (rho_max) and the
width of the pseudorapidity distributions have been studied for varying
centralities for these collisions. A power law fit to the photon yield as a
function of the number of participating nucleons gives a value of 1.13+-0.03
for the exponent. The mean transverse momentum, , of photons determined
from the ratio of the measured electromagnetic transverse energy and photon
multiplicity, remains almost constant with increasing rho_max. Results are

Scaling of Particle and Transverse Energy Production in 208Pb+208Pb collisions at 158 A GeV
Transverse energy, charged particle pseudorapidity distributions and photon
transverse momentum spectra have been studied as a function of the number of
participants (N_{part}) and the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions
(N_{coll}) in 158 A GeV Pb+Pb collisions over a wide impact parameter range. A
scaling of the transverse energy pseudorapidity density at midrapidity as
N_{part}^{1.08 \pm 0.06} and N_{coll}^{0.83 \pm 0.05} is observed. For the
charged particle pseudorapidity density at midrapidity we find a scaling as
N_{part}^{1.07 \pm 0.04} and N_{coll}^{0.82 \pm 0.03}. This faster than linear

Azimuthal Angle Correlations for Rapidity Separated Hadron Pairs in d+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV
We report on two-particle azimuthal angle correlations between charged
hadrons at forward/backward (deuteron/gold going direction) rapidity and
charged hadrons at mid-rapidity in deuteron-gold (d+Au) and proton-proton (p+p)
collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. Jet structures are observed in the
correlations which we quantify in terms of the conditional yield and angular
width of away side partners. The kinematic region studied here samples partons
in the gold nucleus carrying nucleon momentum fraction x~0.1 to x~0.01. Within

Centrality dependence of charged hadron production in deuteron+gold and nucleon+gold collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV
We present transverse momentum (p_T) spectra of charged hadrons measured in
deuteron-gold and nucleon-gold collisions at \sqrts = 200 GeV for four
centrality classes. Nucleon-gold collisions were selected by tagging events in
which a spectator nucleon was observed in one of two forward rapidity
detectors. The spectra and yields were investigated as a function of the number
of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, \nu, suffered by deuteron nucleons. A
comparison of charged particle yields to those in p+p collisions show that the
yield per nucleon-nucleon collision saturates with \nu for high momentum
particles. We also present the charged hadron to neutral pion ratios as a

Jet Structure from Dihadron Correlations in d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV
Dihadron correlations at high transverse momentum in d+Au collisions at
sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at
the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). From these correlations we extract
several structural characteristics of jets; the root-mean-squared (RMS)
transverse momentum of fragmenting hadrons with respect to the jet
sqrt(), the mean sine-squared angle between the scattered partons
, and the number of particles produced within the dijet that are
associated with a high-p_T particle (dN/dx_E distributions). We observe that
the fragmentation characteristics of jets in d+Au collisions are very similar
to those in p+p collisions and that there is also little dependence on the
centrality of the d+Au collision. This is consistent with the nuclear medium
having little influence on the fragmentation process. Furthermore, there is no
statistically significant increase in the value of from p+p to
d+Au collisions. This constrains the amount of multiple scattering that partons
