Improving Salmon Population Restoration Efforts in California\u27s Central Valley Region
Historically, the rivers draining into California’s Central Valley Region (CCVR) were abundant with Chinook salmon, migrating in four distinct runs throughout every year, including the Sacramento River winter-run & the Central Valley spring-run. Since the advent of the Central Valley Project in the 1930’s, and its 20 federal high rim dams, these salmon runs have become increasingly threatened. Using a comparative analysis research methodology, this Project critically reviews the existing literature to address the research question: how can current practices of Fish Passage Designs (FPDs) and collection-and-transport operations (CTOs) be improved to mitigate impacts created by dams in CCVR? After a critical examination of the research literature, this Project offers two major recommendations to improve current FPD practices: moving away from the use of Denil fishways, in favor of other designs, and creating and maintain proper water velocity and pressure around and within FPDs. Two minor recommendations, namely requiring tag validation studies and engaging in longer term FPD monitoring, are also offered. The Project offers two major recommendations for improving current CTO implementations: emphasizing reducing induced stress during CTOs, and mitigating copepod Salmincola californiensis infection prevalence among salmon subjected to CTOs. These recommendations are meant to improve current salmon run restorative efforts in CCVR geared towards delisting the runs from their current endangered listings. These recommendations are also congruent with the two scientific principles that are the bedrock of current conservation management efforts, namely creating functioning, diverse, and interconnected habitats, and improving species viability dependent on spatial factors
ADAPTIVE FILTERING TECHNIQUES FOR AUDIO SOUND RECOVERY
Noise is the common problem that affects not only the daily life but also the industrial
manufacturing process. There are many different type of noise coming from various
sources. A lot of work has been done to improve the audio control system, especially
focus on the sound recovery and noise cancellation. Adaptive filter recently have been
used as a best tool to eliminate the noise and give the good result on recovering the
original pure audio signal. The number of applications applying adaptive techniques
has increased tremendously on the fields like telecommunication, signal processing,
biomedical and sonar.
The objective of this project is to applying adaptive filtering techniques to cancel the
noise from the mixed signal and recover the clean original audio signal
A stochastic model of the influence of buffer gas collisions on Mollow spectra
In this paper we consider the influence of collisional fluctuations on the
Mollow spectra of resonance fluorescence (RF). The fluctuations are taken into
account by a simple shift of the constant detuning, involved in a set of
optical Bloch equations by collision frequency noise which is modelled by a
two-step random telegraph signal (RTS). We consider in detail the Mollow
spectra for RF in the case of an arbitrary detuning of the laser frequency,
where the emitter is a member of a statistical ensemble in thermodynamic
equilibrium with the buffer gas at temperature which is treated as a
colored environment, and velocity is distributed with the Maxwell-Boltzmann
density
Americans support partnership benefits for same-sex couples, but are less positive towards marriage rights and showing affection in public.
Over the past decade, same-sex marriage has grown in acceptance, and is now legal in 35 U.S. states. But how favorable are Americans towards same-sex couples? In new research that examines attitudes towards formal rights and informal privileges for same-sex couples, Long Doan, Lisa R. Miller, and Annalise Loehr find that while most Americans are supportive of same-sex couples having partnership benefits such as family leave and inheritance rights, this support does not extend to more informal privileges such as public displays of affection. They also find that many of those who support partnership rights for same-sex couples do not support their right to be married
Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage across theU.S.: USAPP experts react
On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that state bans on gay marriage were unconstitutional in the case Obergefell v. Hodges. We asked our expert contributors for their reactions to the ruling

Sexual Identity Disclosure among Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Individuals
Partial funding for Open Access provided by the UMD Libraries' Open Access Publishing Fund. Most research on sexual prejudice explicitly or implicitly assumes that an individual’s sexual orientation identity is known to observers. However, there has been little large-scale survey evidence examining differential rates of disclosure among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals, and there remains much to be studied as to why and when LGB individuals choose to disclose their sexual identity to others. Using data from a nationally representative sample of LGB Americans (N=1,085), we assess the contexts and conditions under which LGB individuals disclose their sexual identities. Results show that bisexual women and men are significantly less likely to disclose their sexual identity across several important social domains, such as family and the workplace. This disclosure gap is partially explained by measures of identity commitment but surprisingly not by measures of perceived social acceptance. We discuss implications of these findings for sexuality and identity research.https://doi.org/10.15195/v7.a2
Do Technical Barriers to Trade Measures Affect Vietnam’s Tea Exports? Evidence from the Gravity Model
This paper explores how technical barriers to trade (TBT) affect Vietnam’s tea exports to 55 importing countries from 2001 to 2019. We use the gravity model with different estimation methods: ordinary least square (OLS), fixed-effect (FE), and random effect (RE) to estimate the impact of TBT on Vietnam’s tea exports. The results show that although GDP, population, distance, tariff, and participation in World Trade Organization (WTO) are crucial factors, the TBT measures imposed by these importing countries have significantly negative impacts on Vietnam’s tea exports. Our findings reveal that while a 1% increase in the cumulative TBT measures imposed by developing countries decreases Vietnam's tea export by 0.341%, the figure for developed countries is 1.308%
