The efficient allocation and usage of resources in the higher education system
The performance orientation of the higher education system, along with its evaluation and financing according to quality criteria may remain unfulfilled objectives if there will not be the desire and determination to promote and apply such policies. Today’s system of funding the public higher education system is based on the assumption that the state has the obligation to provide the funding, while the institutions and the students carry little responsibility compared to the resources allocated to them. Without an own financial effort from the student s’ side comes little responsibility for the quality of the received tuition, while without financial effort on the educational institution’s side there is little preoccupation for providing a quality service. It is of the utmost urgency that the present funding system be modified, in a fashion that would allow creating an educational system acting as a competitive educational services market, where the access to state funds should be granted selectively to universities and students depending on the performance demonstrated by certain indicators. To conclude, it is irrelevant what the amount of funds allocated from the state budget is, while the efficiency of their administration is not sufficiently focused on increasing the system’s overall performance.education system, funding, institutional contract, complementary contract
Poverty Has a Devastating Impact on Canadians Living with Diabetes
Diabetes is more prevalent among the poor. Healthcare professionals, in addition to providing excellent care, must push to reduce poverty. This will optimize the management and prevention of diabetes.York's Knowledge Mobilization Unit provides services and funding for faculty, graduate students, and community organizations seeking to maximize the impact of academic research and expertise on public policy, social programming, and professional practice. It is supported by SSHRC and CIHR grants, and by the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation.

Canadians Living with Diabetes and in Poverty Are at High Risk
Canadian individuals living in poverty and who also have T2DM are at high risk for adverse health outcomes. Social welfare does not provide sufficient assistance to allow them to successfully manage their disease. They have difficulty affording the diet required to avoid severe health problems that result from T2DM.York's Knowledge Mobilization Unit provides services and funding for faculty, graduate students, and community organizations seeking to maximize the impact of academic research and expertise on public policy, social programming, and professional practice. Type 2 Diabetes in Vulnerable Populations
Diabetes prevention and management needs more advocacy through a network of different health care partners working together. This can also help inform policy that meets the distinct needs of at risk populations for diabetes, such as low-income earners.York's Knowledge Mobilization Unit provides services and funding for faculty, graduate students, and community organizations seeking to maximize the impact of academic research and expertise on public policy, social programming, and professional practice. Transdisciplinary teaching and learning: an experiment
In our smart new world, characterized by continuous technological evolution, knowledge is subject to rapid obsolescence and change is the only constant. In this context, teachers are called upon to overcome the ingrained automatic habits of traditional knowledge transmission by developing a perspective that is less tied to individual disciplines and more open to the many facets of reality. Only with a questioning and curious attitude aimed at innovation and pedagogical experimentation can teachers make their message meaningful again and help new generations to develop the habit of flexible and complex thinking in order to orient themselves in a fluid, globally connected and hypertechnological society. Following a course on multidisciplinarity, a group of secondary school teachers embarked on a journey of reading and experimenting in the classroom, realizing that through the transdisciplinary approach theorized by the quantum physicist Nicolescu, one can educate for the future. Identifying and tackling conceptual issues to work on and overcoming the narrow limits of individual disciplines in order to understand complex events is the direction in which teachers and students of today's school should move, so that they will face tomorrow with greater awareness and effectiveness.Giacosa, A.
