    Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) or known as elephantiasis is one of the most debilitating neglected tropical diseases. This parasitic disease is a leading cause of permanent disability worldwide and has affected over 120 million people in 83 countries throughout the tropics and sub-tropics areas. In Indonesia, the LF endemic in 28 provinces with the highest prevalent rate comes from the eastern part of Indonesia, especially East Nusa Tenggara that stood at first place in terms of total cases. A total of 23 regencies in East Nusa Tenggara are known as LF endemic areas. Though a prevention program has been implemented, there is still a lack of knowledge and awareness about LF in the community especially the rural community. Moreover, a misconception about the importance of the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) has jeopardized these communities. Poverty and health illiteracy are suspected as the major causes of lack of awareness. The aim of this one health program was to raising community awareness towards LF through school-based health education. This paper discusses the community outreach program conducted in SMAN 1 Amanuban Tengah. Serial presentations about the disease, the social stigma, its prevention, control, and medication programs had been applied in this program. Raising awareness about the disease, the importance of its prevention, control, and medication programs, and breaking the negative assumptions about the disease were several prominent results from the program

    Quail egg is one of animal product coming from poultry livestock which many people consume it and have higher nutrition than chicken’s egg. Quality of quail egg can be influenced by temperature and keeping time. This research aims to know the comparison of quail egg quality which stored at room temperature and refrigerator temperature to air sac egg, yolk index, albumin index, Haugh Unit and Total Plate Count (TPC). Samples counted 36 quail eggs which 0 old. This research using 6 keeping variation long (7, 10, 13, 16, 19 and 20 days), 2 temperatures (30 ºC- 32 ºC and 4 ºC) with 3 time restating. The results are the best keeping time of quail egg which stored at room temperature is under 7 days and under 7 days too for refrigerator temperature. Based on air sac egg, yolk index, albumin index and Haugh Unit, quail egg which stored at refrigerator temperature have better quality than room temperature. Even though, based on TPC, the quality of both are same. The conclusion is quail egg which stored at room temperature and refrigerator temperature is save to consume if the age of egg is under 7 days

    Dendeng is a traditional food results by the public Rote Ndao. The processing is done in the District Lobalain(Rote Ndao). Methods of use of the sugar palm consisting of 4 treatments, KO (without giving sugar palm), K1 (10% concentration of palm sugar), K2 (20% concentration of palm sugar), K3 (30% concentration of palm sugar), K4 (40% concentration palm sugar). 4 times the storage of dendeng  with the observation that the 5th day (P1), 10th day (P2), 15th day (P3), 20th day (P4). The quality of dendeng observed included presentations lost water content after processing, testing organoleptic and microbiological quality in terms of Total Plate Count (TPC). The test results of water content during storage of Dendeng showed that, giving palm sugar concentration of 40% in the processing of dendeng, has a water content lower than the palm sugar concentration of 10%, 20% and 30%. During storage from day 5 to day 15, the water content with giving Dendeng palm sugar concentration of 40%, still meets the SNI. Organoleptic tests show that administration of palm sugar concentration levels in the processing of dendeng affect the quality of appearance, consistency / texture, aroma and taste of Dendeng. During storage in certain storage time of each treatment dendeng change the appearance, consistency or texture, aroma and taste. The test results TPC (Total Plate Count) of Dendeng showed that, giving the concentration of sugar palm sugar palm 40% in the processing of Dendeng, has a value of TPC (Total Plate Count) is lower than the concentration of sugar palm 10%, 20%, and 30 %. During storage, only on day 5 dendeng with palm sugar concentration giving 40% to abide by the TPC (Total Plate Count) of SNI

    STUDY OF HEMOGLOBIN LEVELS CATTLE FED Moringa oleifera AND PREBIOTIC FROM MARE’S MILK

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan kadar hemoglobin pada sapi onggole muda yang diberi Moringa oleifera dan susu prebiotik. Penelitian ini menggunakan sembilan ekor pedet Sumba Ongole umur 5-7 bulan dengan berat badan ± 130 kg. Penelitian diawali dengan persiapan alat dan bahan yang dibutuhkan berupa persiapan kandang individu, pembuatan tepung kelor, pembuatan rumput amunisi, pembuatan konsentrat, pembuatan susu, penyiapan prebiotik, adaptasi hewan. Perlakuan pedet dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol (KK), kelompok perlakuan 1 (KP1), kelompok perlakuan 2 (KP2). Kelompok kontrol diberi makan rumput kering amonia, konsentrat, susu sedangkan kelompok perlakuan 1 diberi pakan rumput kering diamoniase, konsentrat, susu, prebiotik, dan kelompok perlakuan 2 diberi pakan rumput kering diamoniase, konsentrat, tepung kelor. Pada setiap penarikan diambil ± 3 mL darah kemudian dimasukkan ke dalam tabung Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA) dan masing-masing tabung diberi label sesuai kode sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pedet pada kelompok kontrol memiliki kisaran nilai Hb 7,7-11,8 g/dl, sedangkan kelompok yang diberi susu prebiotik memiliki kisaran nilai Hb 8,8 hingga 11,4 g/dl. Kelompok yang diberi pakan Moringa oleifera memiliki kisaran nilai Hb 8,8-14,4 g/dl. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan nilai hemoglobin dari ketiga kelompok perlakuan berada dalam kisaran normal nilai hemoglobin sapi yaitu 9,1-15,7 g/dl namun terjadi peningkatan hemoglobin pada kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan susu prebiotik dan kelor. Pakan kelor yang ditambahkan ke KP2 menghasilkan Hb yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan KP1 dan KK. Nilai Hb yang lebih tinggi diduga karena kandungan protein yang tinggi pada tanaman kelor yaitu 27% sehingga dapat meningkatkan produktivitas ternak

    Eggs from commercial laying chicken are comestibles from animal source that are easy to deteriorate and rot in room temperature. Consequently, a method to improve eggs’ storage life is needed. Preserving eggs using Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) may be taken into consideration. This research aimed to identify the effects of VCO usage as antibacteria on storage life and quality of eggs of commercial laying chicken in Kupang district. Samples used were 63 eggs of commercial laying chicken aged 0 day from Candra Farm in Oesusu, East Kupang, Kupang District. Experiment design used was a completely randomized design with three repetitions. Preservation method, comprising 3 treatments which are non-VCO (T0), with VCO by smearing (T1) and by spraying (T2), in seven times observation, which were held on 10th day (P1), 15th day (P2), 20th day (P3), 25th day (P4), 30th day (P5), 35th day (P6) and 40th day (P7). Quality assessment of the eggs were organoleptic quality, physical quality comprising yolk index, albumen index, air sac depth, egg pH and microbiological quality determined from Total Plate Count (TPC). The results showed that VCO usage has a significant effect (P<0,05) on storage life and egg quality during the 40 day storage. Eggs treated with VCO has better storage life and better quality compared to those without VCO when saved in room temperature (28-32 oC). The Least Significant Difference test showed that there is no significant difference between eggs treatment with VCO by smearing and spraying (P>0.05). this means that both of the methods can be used to improve storage life and quality of the eggs. It can be concluded that eggs that are not treated with VCO are well consumed within 10 days, while eggs treated with VCO and stored in room temperature are safe to be consumed within 20 day

    Binilaka is one of Oeltua Village’s hamlet in Kupang Regency. Binilaka Hamlet was reported as an area affected by the ASF (Africa Swine Fever) disease outbreak.  ASF is a new disease that occurs in the East Nusa Tenggara region and there is an unknown drug or vaccine to treat this disease. The purpose of this counseling is to provide education to the community in Binilaka Hamlet about strategies to prevent ASF transmission during the outbreak so that the public can find out what prevention strategies need to be done in dealing with the ASF disease outbreak. The results of this counseling indicate an increase in public understanding of the dangers and strategies of preventing ASF. These results are reviewed from public feedback with questions and sharing of experiences related to the incidence of ASF in the environment. It is hoped that the Binilaka Hamlet community will be able to implement the ASF disease prevention strategy properly so that it can reduce the mortality rate of pigs

    Tanah Putih Village is a village in Kupang regency, NTT with the majority of people are working as breeders and farmers. That is why there are lots of pigs, chickens, and cows raised by the community. The purpose of the counseling is to educate farmers and breeders about the risk of cysticercosis for human beings and to give information on how to store eggs in a better way. The counseling carried out was done smoothly and the participants were enthusiastic to follow the activity which is shown by the questions and sharing they are given to the counselor during the community service activity. Thus, the people of Tanah Putih Village are expected to be able to understand and apply the topics that are given into their daily life

    Toxoplasmosis is a disease of vertebrate animals and it is capable of being transmitted to humans (zoonosis). Toxoplasmosis is caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplama gondii. Cats are the definitive host of T. gondii where this parasite will enter the cat's body through what it eats such as rats, raw meat, or water that is contaminated with oocysts of the T. gondii parasite. This condition is generally experienced by stray cats or domesticated cats which are often given raw meat. The purpose of this activity is to increase public understanding of the dangers of toxoplasmosis and how to prevent and anticipate the spread of toxoplasmosis in Kupang City. The method used in this community education was through presentation and discussions about the danger of toxoplasmosis. To measure the level of understanding of the participants about the dangers of toxoplasma, a questionnaire is given at the beginning and at the end of the activity. A total of 38 participants from the productive youth groups in Kupang City were involved in this activity.  The result of this activity shows that the public is increasingly educated about toxoplasmosis and how it is transmitted

    The outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) disease as a disease that can affect the swine has distributed in many countries including Indonesia. The Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) is the biggest swine population in Indonesia being risk because Timor Island directly bordered Timor Leste, which an area that affected ASF. The outbreak of ASF caused a big loss to the economy and the public's fear of consumption of pork and other swine products. The purpose of this activity is to given information about characteristics of good pork quality and appeal public to control and prevent dissemination of ASF. According to this activity, the public knowing ASF as a danger and zoonotic disease, which caused public anxiety to consumption pork and other swine products. Although the public knowing about the danger of ASF, there is no preventive action they know. This activity is a tool for breeders to prevent ASF in their animal husbandry and for the public to know that ASF, not a zoonotic disease. However, consumption of pork and other swine products infected with ASF can spread ASF continuously
