Semileptonic decay of BcB_c meson into ccˉc\bar c states in a QCD potential model

The slope and curvature of Isgur Wise function for BcB_{c} meson is computed in a QCD potential model in two different approaches of choosing the perturbative term of the Cornell potential. Based on heavy quark effective theory the exclusive semileptonic decay rates of BcB_c meson into the $c\bar c\ (\eta_c,J/\psi)statesareexploited.SpinsymmetrybreakingeffectsareignoreduptoaparticularpointandtheformfactorsareconnectedwithIsgur−Wisefunctionforotherkinematicpointsincetherecoilmomentumof states are exploited. Spin symmetry breaking effects are ignored upto a particular point and the form factors are connected with Isgur-Wise function for other kinematic point since the recoil momentum of c\bar cfrom from B_{c}$ is small due to its heavy mass.Comment: 13 pages, 4 tables, 4 figures,Accepted to Int.J.Mod.Phys.

Isgur-Wise function in a QCD potential model with coulombic potential as perturbation

We study heavy light mesons in a QCD inspired quark model with the Cornell potential−4αS3r+br+c-\frac{4\alpha_{S}}{3r}+br+c. Here we consider the linear term brbr as the parent and −4αS3r+c-\frac{4\alpha_{S}}{3r}+c i.e.the Coloumbic part as the perturbation. The linear parent leads to Airy function as the unperturbed wavefunction. We then use the Dalgarno method of perturbation theory to obtain the total wavefunction corrected upto first order with Coulombic peice as the perturbation. With these wavefunctions, we study the Isgur-Wise function and calculate its slope and curvature.Comment: paper has been modified in Airy functions calculation upto o(r^3

Further evidence for intra-night optical variability of radio-quiet quasars

Although well established for BL Lac objects and radio-loud quasars, the occurrence of intra-night optical variability (INOV) in radio-quiet quasars is still debated, primarily since only a handful of INOV events with good statistical significance, albeit small amplitude, have been reported so far. This has motivated us to continue intra-night optical monitoring of bona-fide radio-quiet quasars (RQQs). Here we present the results for a sample of 11 RQQs monitored by us on 19 nights. On 5 of these nights a given RQQ was monitored simultaneously from two well separated observatories. In all, two clear cases and two probable case of INOV were detected. From these data, we estimate an INOV duty cycle of ∼\sim8% for RQQs which would increase to 19% if the `probable variable' cases are also included. Such comparatively small INOV duty cycles for RQQs, together with the small INOV amplitudes (∼\sim1%), are in accord with the previously deduced characteristics of this phenomenon.Comment: 15 Pages, 4 Tables, 24 Figures; Accepted in BAS

To study the oxidative stress induced by lindane in epileptic rats brains and their modulation by neurosteroids

Background: Lindane is pesticide has been shown to affect the nervous system adversely. Previous work has shown that lindane is proconvulsant and neurosteroids (NS) has been shown to be neuroprotective against lindane-induced convulsions. As the mechanisms of lindane in epileptogenesis is not completely understood. The present study was designed to investigate the oxidative stress parameters of lindane toxicity in epileptogenesis and their modulation by NS like allopregnanolone (AP), and 4ʹ-chlorodiazepam (4ʹ-CD) in pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) kindling methods. Methods: Kindling was induced by injecting PTZ (30 mg/kg; s.c.) on alternate days i.e., 3 times in a week. Lindane was also administered (15 mg/kg p.o) on alternate days for 6 weeks. AP (2.5 mg/kg, intaperitoneal [i.p.]) and 4ʹ-CD (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) single dose was given in kindled rats before lindane. Results: Following per oral administration of lindane for 6 weeks produced significant oxidative stress in epileptic brain. There was an increase in brain malondialdehyde (MDA) level and decrease in reduced glutathione (GSH) levels. AP (2.5 mg/kg, i.p.) and 4ʹ-CD (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) single dose administration were not able to reverse the effect of chronic exposure of lindane. Conclusion: The result of the present study provides evidence that oxidative stress produced in the brain after chronic exposure of lindane may be the mechanism of epileptogenesis. Though NS have been shown to be neuroprotective, but they failed to reverse chronic oxidative stress produced by lindane. Further studies are required to demonstrate interaction of NS with lindane in oxidative stress

Magnetic rock properties of the gabbros from the ODP Drill Hole 1105 A of the Atlantis Bank, Southwest Indian Ridge

Laboratory studies of 30 samples from 158 m long drill core of the Hole 1105 A (ODP Leg 179) of the Atlantis Bank, Southwest Indian Ridge have revealed magnetic properties of the gabbros, olivine gabbros, oxide gabbros and olivine oxide gabbros down the core. Comparison of modal proportions of the oxides, grain sizes and magnetization parameters of the rocks has confirmed that most coarse-grained oxide mineral bearing rocks record low Koenigsberger ratio (2 to 5) and median destructive fields (5 to 7 mT). Average natural remanent magnetization (Jnrm) and stable remanent magnetization (Jst) of the core samples are 5.8 A/m and 1.9 A/m, respectively. Their mean stable magnetic inclination is 66° ± 4°, about 14° steeper than the expected dipole inclination of the area similar to the one reported at Hole 735 B. The excess inclination perhaps marks a tectonic block rotation of the reversely magnetized rocks of the bank. We interpret that gabbros and serpentinites devoid of basaltic carapace significantly contribute to seafloor spreading anomalies of the bank
