Charged Multiplicities at SPS and RHIC and consequences for J/ψJ/\psi suppression

    Get PDF
Hadron multiplicities in nucleus--nucleus interactions are calculated in the Dual Parton Model and its dependence on the number of collisions and the number of participants is analyzed. Shadowing corrections are calculated as a function of impact parameter and the multiplicity per participant as a funtion of centrality is found to be in agreement with experiment at SPS and RHIC energies. The obtained results are used to compute the J/ψJ/\psi suppression in a comover approach.Comment: 4 pages, 4 postscript figures. We compute the mid-rapidity densities of pions, kaons, baryons and antibaryons in AuAu--AuAu collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 130 GeV in the Dual Parton Model supplemented with final state interactions, and we present a comparison with available data.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Fiscal Policy Discretion, Private Spending, and Crisis Episodes

In this paper, we assess the impact of fiscal policy discretion on economic activity in the short and medium-term. Using a panel of 132 countries from 1960 to 2008, we find that fiscal policy discretion provides a net stimulus to the economy in the short-run and crowding-in effects are amplified once crisis episodes are controlled for– in particular, banking crises - giving a great scope for fiscal policy stimulus packages. However, crowding-out effects take over in the long-run – especially, in the case of debt crises -, in line with the concerns about long-term debt sustainability.Fiscal policy discretion, GDP growth, private consumption, private investment, crowding-in, crowding-out.

Applications and Sexual Version of a Simple Model for Biological Ageing

We use a simple model for biological ageing to study the mortality of the population, obtaining a good agreement with the Gompertz law. We also simulate the same model on a square lattice, considering different strategies of parental care. The results are in agreement with those obtained earlier with the more complicated Penna model for biological ageing. Finally, we present the sexual version of this simple model.Comment: For Int.J.Mod.Phys.C Dec. 2001; 11 pages including 6 fig

Monte Carlo model for nuclear collisions from SPS to LHC energies

    Get PDF
A Monte Carlo model to simulate nuclear collisions in the energy range going from SPS to LHC, is presented. The model includes in its initial stage both soft and semihard components, which lead to the formation of color strings. Collectivity is taken into account considering the possibility of strings in color representations higher than triplet or antitriplet, by means of string fusion. String breaking leads to the production of secondaries. At this point, the model can be used as initial condition for further evolution by a transport model. In order to tune the parameters and see the results in nucleus-nucleus collisions, a naif model for rescattering of secondaries is introduced. Results of the model are compared with experimental data, and predictions for RHIC and LHC are shown.Comment: LaTeX, 48 pages, 6 tables, 15 postscript figures included using epsfi

Space-time Torsion and Neutrino Oscillations in Vacuum

The objective of this study is to verify the consistency of the prescription of alternative minimum coupling (connection) proposed by the Teleparallel Equivalent to General Relativity (TEGR) for the Dirac equation. With this aim, we studied the problem of neutrino oscillations in Weitzenbock space-time in the Schwarzschild metric. In particular, we calculate the phase dynamics of neutrinos. The relation of spin of the neutrino with the space-time torsion is clarified through the determination of the phase differences between spin eigenstates of the neutrinos.Comment: 07 pages, no figure
