Which hadronic decay modes are good for searching: double or something else?
It has been controversial whether can be discovered in Tevatron Run
2 through the decay followed by . We clear this controversy by an explicit calculation which
predicts to be of order . It is
concluded that observing eta_b through this decay mode in Tevatron Run 2 is
rather unrealistic. The eta_b may be observed in the forthcoming LHC
experiments through the 4-lepton channel, if the background events can be
significantly reduced by imposing some kinematical cuts. By some rough but
plausible considerations, we find that the analogous decay processes eta_b to
VV, D^*\bar{D}^* also have very suppressed branching ratios, nevertheless it
may be worth looking for \eta_b at LHC and Super B factory through the decay
modes \eta_b \to K_S K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}, D^*\bar{D}.Comment: v2; 28 pages, 2 figures. References added, presentation improved.

A transient solution for vesicle electrodeformation and relaxation
A transient analysis for vesicle deformation under DC electric fields is
developed. The theory extends from a droplet model, with the additional
consideration of a lipid membrane separating two fluids of arbitrary
properties. For the latter, both a membrane-charging and a membrane-mechanical
model are supplied. The vesicle is assumed to remain spheroidal in shape for
all times. The main result is an ODE governing the evolution of the vesicle
aspect ratio. The effects of initial membrane tension and pulse length are
examined. The model prediction is extensively compared with experimental data,
and is shown to accurately capture the system behavior in the regime of no or
weak electroporation. More importantly, the comparison reveals that vesicle
relaxation obeys a universal behavior regardless of the means of deformation.
The process is governed by a single timescale that is a function of the vesicle
initial radius, the fluid viscosity, and the initial membrane tension. This
universal scaling law can be used to calculate membrane properties from
experimental data
Probing viscoelastic properties of a thin polymer film sheared between a beads layer and quartz crystal resonator
We report measurements of viscoelastic properties of thin polymer films of
10-100 nm at the MHz range. These thin films are confined between a quartz
crystal resonator and a millimetric bead layer, producing an increase of both
resonance frequency and dissipation of the quartz resonator. The shear modulus
and dynamic viscosity of thin films extracted from these measurements are
consistent with the bulk values of the polymer. This modified quartz resonator
provides an easily realizable and effective tool for probing the rheological
properties of thin films at ambient environment.Comment: submitted to ap
Tunable one-dimensional microwave emissions from cyclic-transition three-level atoms
By strongly driving a cyclic-transition three-level artificial atom,
demonstrated by such as a flux-based superconducting circuit, we show that
coherent microwave signals can be excited along a coupled one-dimensional
transmission line. Typically, the intensity of the generated microwave is
tunable via properly adjusting the Rabi frequencies of the applied
strong-driving fields or introducing a probe field with the same frequency. In
practice, the system proposed here could work as an on-chip quantum device with
controllable atom-photon interaction to implement a total-reflecting mirror or
switch for the propagating probe field.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
Four Jets as a Probe of O(100 GeV) Physics beyond Standard Model at Hadron Colliders
O(100 GeV) physics beyond the standard model (BSM) could be overlooked
provided that it is hidden in the untouched Higgs sector or jets. The top quark
forward-backward asymmetry measurements and di-jet bump, which is observed in
the associated production with charged lepton plus missing energy (supposed
arising from W decay), may indicate the existence of a new color-octet
axial-vector Z_C with a mass about 145 GeV. Here Z_C only decays into two jets.
In this paper we investigated the possibility to discover Z_C pair via
analyzing the four jets as the final states, which are heavily polluted by huge
QCD background. Our simulation showed that, however, both Tevatron and LHC have
the excellent chance to discover Z_C through analyzing the four jets events in
the current accumulated data.Comment: 15 pages, 11figures and 2 table
