Mitsch's order and inclusion for binary relations and partitions

    Get PDF
Mitsch's natural partial order on the semigroup of binary relations is here characterised by equations in the theory of relation algebras. The natural partial order has a complex relationship with the compatible partial order of inclusion, which is explored by means of a sublattice of the lattice of preorders on the semigroup. The corresponding sublattice for the partition monoid is also described.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure

Plasma igniter for internal combustion engine

    Get PDF
An igniter for the air/fuel mixture used in the cylinders of an internal combustion engine is described. A conventional spark is used to initiate the discharge of a large amount of energy stored in a capacitor. A high current discharge of the energy in the capacitor switched on by a spark discharge produces a plasma and a magnetic field. The resultant combined electromagnetic current and magnetic field force accelerates the plasma deep into the combustion chamber thereby providing an improved ignition of the air/fuel mixture in the chamber

An Economic Evaluation of Binary Cycle Geothermal Electricity Production

    Get PDF
The U.S. is heavily dependent on fossil fuels to produce electricity. Geothermal energy, the heat in the earth\u27s crust, can provide an alternative source of energy for electricity production as well as reduce fossil fuel consumption. The economic analysis presented in this study focuses on binary cycle geothermal electricity production. Variables such as well flow rate, geothermal gradient and electricity prices were varied to study their influence on the economic payback period for binary cycle geothermal electricity production. Payback periods represent the amount of time (in years) necessary to recover initial costs of plant construction

Local cooperative livestock marketing associations in Iowa since 1920

    Get PDF
Cooperative livestock shipping associations have maintained their importance in the marketing of Iowa livestock since 1920. There were 697 associations in Iowa in 1925. They shipped 67,523 single-deck cars of livestock in 1924, which was 25 percent of all the livestock marketed. Altho the number of livestock shipped cooperatively has increased since 1920, the proportion handled cooperatively has remained constant. About one-half of the farmers in the state used local shipping associations in 1924 to market at least part of their stock. The volume of business per association varied from 2 to 500 cars of hogs in 1924. Hogs were the most important kind of livestock handled, making up 84 percent of all cooperative shipments. Cattle formed 15 percent and sheep less than 1 percent
