Adaptive Multi-Pattern Fast Block-Matching Algorithm Based on Motion Classification Techniques
Motion estimation is the most time-consuming subsystem in a video codec. Thus, more efficient methods of motion estimation should be investigated. Real video sequences usually exhibit a wide-range of motion content as well as different degrees of detail, which become particularly difficult to manage by typical block-matching algorithms. Recent developments in the area of motion estimation have focused on the adaptation to video contents. Adaptive thresholds and multi-pattern search algorithms have shown to achieve good performance when they success to adjust to motion characteristics. This paper proposes an adaptive algorithm, called MCS, that makes use of an especially tailored classifier that detects some motion cues and chooses the search pattern that best fits to them. Specifically, a hierarchical structure of binary linear classifiers is proposed. Our experimental results show that MCS notably reduces the computational cost with respect to an state-of-the-art method while maintaining the qualityPublicad
Kopernik : modeling business processes for digital customers
This paper presents the Kopernik methodology for modeling business processes for digital customers. These processes require a high degree of flexibility in the execution of their tasks or actions. We achieve this by using the artifact-centric approach to process modeling and the use of condition-action rules. The processes modeled following Kopernik can then be implemented in an existing commercial tool, Balandra.Preprin
The wood used for carpentry elements in canarian traditional buildings. An example of the practical application for the identification of this wood type
Traditional Canarian Buildings are part of the rural landscape and urban space of the Canary Islands and constitute a relevant element of its architectural heritage, which must be preserved. Probability, the Pitch wood is the building material that best represents traditional Canarian architecture. The identification of this wood is essential for establishing strategies for the purpose of the preventive conservation and to ensure the preservation of the original materials of the Canarian architectural model. This work presents an example of practical application for the identification of pitch wood used for carpentry elements in a traditional Canarian building. A methodology proposed by the literature based on thermogravimetric analysis and helium pycnometry is used for this purpose
Fuzzy reasoning in K-means classification method
4 pages, no figures.-- Contributed to: 1999 EUSFLAT-ESTYLF Joint Conference (Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Sep 22-25, 1999).Domain analysis tries to reuse software in an effective way. New methodologies are starting to be able to automate the process, in different degrees, with the construction of a domain model for each problem. The general process is divided into several phases. One of the most diffcult tasks is the generation of the relationships which have to be defined between the components in the domain. In this paper the use of fuzzy logic and a statistical classification method in order to get the semantic relationships for each pair of components is presented.Publicad
A Rate Control Algorthm for Low-Delay H.264 Video Coding with Stored-B Pictures
A rate control (RC) algorithm for H.264 video coding with stored-B (SB) pictures is proposed for low-delay applications. Different models for P and SB pictures are defined for a better QP and MAD estimation. Furthermore, a novel saw-tooth shaped model of target buffer level has also been introduced for a proper bit allocation in GOP structures with SB pictures. Our experimental results show that this proposal outperforms the reference software RC in terms of buffer occupancy and target bit rate adjustment at the expense of slight quality reduction.Publicad
Synthesis and study of biological activity of tetrahydro-1H-[3]-benzazepines
The 3-Benzazepines are an important class of compounds in drug discovery due to their biological activity such as analgesic, antihypertensive or anticancer properties as well as dopaminergic or antidopaminergic activity. In particular, the tetrahydro-1H-[3]- benzazepine is a common skeleton in a number of natural and pharmaceutical products. As consequence of the interesting biological properties, derivatives of the tetrahydro-1H-[3]-benzazepines, especially the 1-aryl substituted have been synthesized by different routes and evaluated their pharmacologic activity. [1,2]
The stereoselective synthetic approaches of tetrahydro-1H-[3]-benzazepine have focused on ring enlargements, as the Stevens rearrangement (SR) which is a good regio- and diastereoselective synthetic methodology. In my research group, the reaction conditions to synthesize tetrahydro-1H-[3]-benzazepines 1,2-disubstituted by via SR from tetrahydroisoquinolinium salts conveniently functionalized have been optimized. [3,4]
This methodology allowed us to obtain a wide variety of tetrahydro-1H-[3]- benzazepines 1,2-disubstituted with different substituents at A-ring (Cl, OMe) and the C-1 (-C6H4X, X = H, OMe, Cl, NO2, NMe2, NH2, SMe) and C-2 (Electron-withdrawing groups) positions. The demethylation of the synthesized tetrahydroisoquinolines and tetrahydro-1H-[3]-benzazepines 1,2-disubstituted, lead us to get catechol structure, an important requirement for their dopaminergic activity.
We have studied the dopaminergic activity of the synthesized compounds by radioligand binding assays, establishing a structure-activity relationships.

Synthesis of bioactive compounds. Studies of their attachment to nanoparticles
The 1-aryl tetrahydroisoquinolines have attracted great attention in medicinal chemistry due to their biological activity. These compounds present antitumor, anti-HIV and antibacterial activities. Several analogues of 1-aryl tetrahydroisoquinoline are used for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson´s and Alzheimer´s diseases since also act as dopaminergic antagonists and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist. [1]
The 1-substituted tetrahydro-3-benzazepines have also been studied for their affinity to the Phencylclidine binding site of the NMDA receptor as well as for their affinity to the dopaminergic receptors. [2]
In the last years, various methods have been carried out to satisfy the demand of novel tetrahydroisoquinolines and tetrahydro-3-benzazepines. We have synthesized nor-1-aryl tetrahydroisoquinolines with different substituents in the aryl group of C-1 (H, NMe2, SMe, NO2, NH2). In addition to this, we have performed the synthesis of nor-tetrahydro-3-benzazepinas by different routes, obtaining the best results via opening of epoxides by arylphenethylamines and subsequent cyclization.
The nor-tetrahydroisoquinolines and nor-tetrahydro-3-benzazepines have been derivatized to obtain appropiate adsorbates which can be attached to nanoparticles. This fact is crutial in drug delivery systems as well as in the improvement of the biocompatibility of these compounds.

Evaluation of device reliability based on accelerated tests
Reliability evaluation based on degradation is very useful in systems with scarce failures. In this paper a new degradation model based on Weibull distribution is proposed. The model is applied to the degradation of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) under different accelerated tests. The results of these tests are in agreement with the proposed model and reliability function is evaluated
