Use of SketchBook Pro with Tablet PC (TabSketch™) as a design thinking tool in the teaching and learning of design and technology
This paper shares the preliminary findings from the first two
phases of an exploratory study on the potential of Tab-Sketch™
as i) a design-thinking tool for design and technology (D&T)
teachers and pupils in secondary schools; ii) a teaching and
learning tool for D&T teachers; and iii) a platform to document
design-thinking in the form of digital design journal. Tab-Sketch
is an acronym derived from Tablet PC and SketchBook Pro, a
computer software. The study, which is naturalistic in approach,
was initiated in Nov 2004 and has evolved into three phases.
Phases 1 and 2 were completed. Phase 3 has commenced in
Aug 2006 and will end in Dec 2007. The insights and
experiences gained from the first two phases include:
• the concept of ‘growing ideas’ conveniently and
dynamically;
• the potential of the software for quick sketches and editing
via features like layer and the range of rendering tools
available;
• Tab-Sketch as a tool for the teacher-designer to dialogue
with self and to practise rapid visualisation;
• capturing design conversations graphically and digitally
between teacher and pupil; and
• ease in manipulating images and ideating presentation
drawings.
These preliminary findings have shaped Phase 3 of the study
which is still on-going
A decision support approach to designing the inland logistics network in China
With the unprecedented growth of international trade, a growing number of multinational firms have coped with logistical challenges of shipping products to and from unfamiliar territories in many countries. These logistical challenges include the cross-border transportation of products originated from inland port to another inland port isolated from major waterways. In particular, the lack of access to major waterways would not only constrain the intermodal transportation option, but also make door-to-door, containerized delivery services nearly impossible. Such a limited option would eventually lead to increased transportation costs and transit time, and thereby offset low-cost global sourcing advantages. To aid multinational firms in addressing the problem of determining the optimal supply chain link between inland origin and destinations ports, this article proposes a shortest-path model based decision support system. The usefulness of the proposed model-based decision support system was validated by its application to a real problem encountered by a multinational firm that would like to strengthen its foothold in the Chinese market

Measurement arrangement for the estimation of path loss exponent in wireless sensor network
Path loss model is generally used to relate distance and signal strength in wireless applications. This has been widely implemented in ranging, localization, and location tracking systems. A range of extension models have been proposed to enhance the performance for various environments and applications. Nevertheless, path loss exponent remains its significance as the main factor in the model regardless of how the model is varied. Based on the nature as an exponent of the model, inaccurate path loss exponent amplifies the error if it is used to estimate distance from received signal strength. Therefore, measurement of accurate value for path loss exponent becomes
very important as it directly influences the output of distance estimation. Researchers have been studying the methods of measuring accurate path loss exponent in various environments. Instead of emphasizing the calculation process, this paper focuses more on the allocation of transmitters and receivers, and the arrangement among them. From the results obtained from experiments, properly arranged transmitter and receiver nodes provides better estimation of the path loss exponent. Based on the results, this paper also proposes a suitable nodes arrangement

Measured radio wave behavior of a partially open drain in urban environment
This paper attempts to analyze the propagation characteristics of radio signal inside a partially open drain environment using an empirical approach. The proposed research topic concerns a unique situation in several Asian countries because the drainage systems in these countries differ notably from those in the US and Europe in that the former are partially open on the top while the latter are primarily below ground and covered. Measurement results are reported for one drain located on Sunway University campus at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz. The differences between the measurement results at the aforementioned two frequencies are discussed. These measurement results serve as a useful indicator as to how signal might behave differently in partially enclosed spaces, such as those where partially open drains exist, especially in an urban environment

The test result will provide an insight on 5 major dimensions of personality: Openness, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Extraversion, and Neuroticism. The numeric indication from the result, score and percentile, will be translated into forms and formations with the help of appropriate assigned colours that best represent the 5 traits
Work-Life Balance and Work Satisfaction in Workplace
This study aims to investigate whether the workplace environment in an ICT organizations are conducive for the employees to use work-life balance and secondary investigation will involving whether the ability to have work-life balance will increase the happiness and this job satisfaction and leads to higher productivity. A questionnaire which consisted of all the work-life balance activities in the ICT organization were sent out and a total of 94 respondents whom worked in ICT organizations have responded. It was observed that in Malaysia ICT organizations, there is clear evidence that workplace environment are conducive of employees to have work-life balance as part of Corporate Social Responsibility policy and responses show that the management supports the employees to have work-life balance. The findings show despite having a workplace environment and management supportive of work-life balance programs in workplace, employees are still not happy with the organizations and thus actively looking for jobs outside the organizations. There may be more factors which should be accountable to the model framework used in the research such as salary and stress level which was not included
A Review of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks in Mobile Face Recognition
With the emergence of deep learning, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models have been proposed to advance the progress of various applications, including face recognition, object detection, pattern recognition, and number plate recognition. The utilization of CNNs in these areas has considerably improved security and surveillance capabilities by providing automated recognition solutions, such as traffic surveillance, access control devices, biometric security systems, and attendance systems. However, there is still room for improvement in this field. This paper discusses several classic CNN models, such as LeNet-5, AlexNet, VGGNet, GoogLeNet, and ResNet, as well as lightweight models for mobile-based applications, such as MobileNet, ShuffleNet, and EfficientNet. Additionally, deep CNN-based face recognition models, such as DeepFace, DeepID, FaceNet, and SphereFace, are explored, along with their architectural characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and recognition accuracy. The results indicate that many scholars are researching lightweight face recognition, but applying it to mobile devices is impractical due to high computational costs. Furthermore, noise label learning is not robust in actual scenarios, and unlabeled face learning is expensive in manual labeling. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of the current problems faced by face recognition technology and its potential future directions for development
