Smart technology for healthcare: Exploring the antecedents of adoption intention of healthcare wearable technology
© The Author(s), 2019. Technological advancement and personalized health information has led to an increase in people using and responding to wearable technology in the last decade. These changes are often perceived to be beneficial, providing greater information and insights about health for users, organizations and healthcare and government. However, to date, understanding the antecedents of its adoption is limited. Seeking to address this gap, this cross-sectional study examined what factors influence users’ adoption intention of healthcare wearable technology. We used self-administrated online survey to explore adoption intentions of healthcare wearable devices in 171 adults residing in Hong Kong. We analyzed the data by Partial least squares – structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The results reveal that perceived convenience and perceived irreplaceability are key predictors of perceived useful ness, which in turn strengthens users’ adoption intention. Additionally, the results also reveal that health belief is one of the key predictors of adoption intention. This paper contributes to the extant literature by providing understanding of how to strengthen users’ intention to adopt healthcare wearable technology. This includes the strengthening of perceived convenience and perceived irreplaceability to enhance the perceived usefulness, incorporating the extensive communication in the area of healthcare messages, which is useful in strengthening consumers’ adoption intention in healthcare wearable technology
Large Extra Dimensions at Linear Colliders
In this talk, I first present the motivation for theories wherein extra
spacetime dimensions can be compactified to have large magnitudes. In
particular, I discuss the Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, Dvali (ADD) scenario. I
present the constraints that have been derived on these models from current
experiments and the expectations from future colliders. I concentrate
particularly on the possibilities of probing these extra dimensions at future

Olfactory rod cells : a rare cell type in the larval zebrafish olfactory epithelium with an actin-rich apical projection
We report the presence of a rare cell type, the olfactory rod cell, in the developing zebrafish olfactory epithelium. These cells each bear a single actin-rich rod-like apical projection extending about 10 μm from the epithelial surface. Live imaging with a ubiquitous Lifeact-RFP label indicates that the rods can oscillate. Olfactory rods arise within a few hours of the olfactory pit opening, increase in numbers and size during larval stages, and can develop in the absence of olfactory cilia. Olfactory rod cells differ in morphology from the known classes of olfactory sensory neuron, but express reporters driven by neuronal promoters. The cells also differ from secondary sensory cells such as hair cells of the inner ear or lateral line, or sensory cells in the taste bud, as they are not associated with established synaptic terminals. A sub-population of olfactory rod cells expresses a Lifeact-mRFPruby transgene driven by the sox10 promoter. Mosaic expression of this transgene reveals that olfactory rod cells have rounded cell bodies located apically in the olfactory epithelium
Spin configuration of top quark pair production with large extra dimensions at photon-photon colliders
Top quark pair production at photon-photon colliders is studied in low scale
quantum gravity scenario. From the dependence of the cross sections on the spin
configuration of the top quark and anti-quark, we introduce a new observable,
top spin asymmetry. It is shown that there exists a special top spin basis
where with the polarized parent electron beams the top spin asymmetry vanishes
in the standard model but retains substantial values with the large extra
dimension effects. We also present lower bounds of the quantum gravity scale
from total cross sections with various combinations of the laser,
electron beam, and top quark pair polarizations. The measurements of the top
spin state with unpolarized initial beams are
shown to be most effective, enhancing by about 5% the bounds with respect

Direct Signals for Large Extra Dimensions in the Production of Fermion Pairs at Linear Colliders
We analyze the potentiality of the new generation of linear
colliders to search for large extra dimensions via the production of fermion
pairs in association with Kaluza-Klein gravitons (G), i.e. . This process leads to a final state exhibiting a significant amount
of missing energy in addition to acoplanar lepton or jet pairs. We study in
detail this reaction using full tree level contibutions due to the graviton
emission and the standard model backgrounds. After choosing the cuts to enhance
the signal, we show that a linear collider with a center-of-mass energy of 500
GeV will be able to probe quantum gravity scales from 0.96(0.86) up to 4.1(3.3)
TeV at 2(5) level, depending on the number of extra dimensions.Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures. Using RevTex, axodraw.sty. Discussion was

Search for Top Quark FCNC Couplings in Z' Models at the LHC and CLIC
The top quark is the heaviest particle to date discovered, with a mass close
to the electroweak symmetry breaking scale. It is expected that the top quark
would be sensitive to the new physics at the TeV scale. One of the most
important aspects of the top quark physics can be the investigation of the
possible anomalous couplings. Here, we study the top quark flavor changing
neutral current (FCNC) couplings via the extra gauge boson Z' at the Large
Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) energies. We
calculate the total cross sections for the signal and the corresponding
Standard Model (SM) background processes. For an FCNC mixing parameter x=0.2
and the sequential Z' mass of 1 TeV, we find the single top quark FCNC
production cross sections 0.38(1.76) fb at the LHC with sqrt{s_{pp}}=7(14) TeV,
respectively. For the resonance production of sequential Z' boson and decays to
single top quark at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) energies, including the
initial state radiation and beamstrahlung effects, we find the cross section
27.96(0.91) fb at sqrt{s_{e^{+}e^{-}}}=1(3) TeV, respectively. We make the
analysis to investigate the parameter space (mixing-mass) through various Z'
models. It is shown that the results benefit from the flavor tagging.Comment: 20 pages, 17 figures, 6 table
The Use of Modified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Program for Family Caregivers of People Living with Dementia: A Feasibility Study
Purpose
The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a modified mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) program for reducing the stress, depressive symptoms, and subjective burden of family caregivers of people with dementia (PWD).
Methods
A prospective, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial design was adopted. Fifty-seven participants were recruited from the community and randomized into either the modified MBSR group (n = 27) or modified MBCT group (n = 26), receiving seven face-to-face intervention sessions for more than 16 weeks. Various psychological outcomes were measured at baseline (T0), immediately after intervention (T1), and at the 3-month follow-up (T2).
Results
Both interventions were found to be feasible in view of the high attendance (more than 70.0%) and low attrition (3.8%) rates. The mixed analysis of variance (ANOVA) results showed positive within-group effects on perceived stress (p = .030, Cohen's d = 0.54), depressive symptoms (p = .002, Cohen's d = 0.77), and subjective caregiver burden (p < .001, Cohen's d = 1.12) in both interventions across the time points, whereas the modified MBCT had a larger effect on stress reduction, compared with the modified MBSR (p = .019).
Conclusion
Both the modified MBSR and MBCT are acceptable to family caregivers of PWD. Their preliminary effects were improvements in stress, depressive symptoms, and subjective burden. The modified MBCT may be more suitable for caregivers of PWD than the MBSR. A future clinical trial is needed to confirm their effectiveness in improving the psychological well-being of caregivers of PWD
