Chances for creative talent in Parkstad Rotterdam: Urban regeneration in Rotterdam-Zuid based on the development of a vital local creative economic cluster

    No full text
Rotterdam-Zuid is dealing with large socio-economic and spatial-physical problems. The plan that should contribute to a sustainable solution to these problems are as follows. (1) The development of the Parkstad area into a lively mixed urban environment. (2) The establishment of new local routes and connections between neighbourhoods, shopping streets and the larger urban network. (3) The construction of multifunctional building containing a vocational school, office space and workshops for freelancers and small companies, commercial and social space, a library and other support functions.Hybrid BuildingsArchitecture & UrbanismArchitectur

On the isomorphism class of q-Gaussian C*-algebras for infinite variables

    No full text
For a real Hilbert space HR and −1 < q < 1 Bozejko and Speicher introduced the C∗-algebra Aq(HR) and von Neumann algebra Mq(HR) of qGaussian variables. We prove that if dim(HR) = ∞ and −1 < q < 1, q ∕= 0 then Mq(HR) does not have the Akemann-Ostrand property with respect to Aq(HR). It follows that Aq(HR) is not isomorphic to A0(HR). This gives an answer to the C∗-algebraic part of Question 1.1 and Question 1.2 in raised by Nelson and Zeng [Int. Math. Res. Not. IMRN 17 (2018), pp. 5486–5535].Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Analysi

Relative Haagerup property for arbitrary von Neumann algebras

    No full text
We introduce the relative Haagerup approximation property for a unital, expected inclusion of arbitrary von Neumann algebras and show that if the smaller algebra is finite then the notion only depends on the inclusion itself, and not on the choice of the conditional expectation. Several variations of the definition are shown to be equivalent in this case, and in particular the approximating maps can be chosen to be unital and preserving the reference state. The concept is then applied to amalgamated free products of von Neumann algebras and used to deduce that the standard Haagerup property for a von Neumann algebra is stable under taking free products with amalgamation over finite-dimensional subalgebras. The general results are illustrated by examples coming from q-deformed Hecke-von Neumann algebras and von Neumann algebras of quantum orthogonal groups.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Analysi

Experimental study on needle insertion force to minimize tissue deformation in tongue tissue

    Get PDF
This study reports on the effects of insertion velocity, needle tip geometry and needle diameter on tissue deformation and maximum insertion force. Moreover, the effect of multiple insertions with the same needle on the maximum insertion force is reported. The tissue deformation and maximum insertion force strongly depend on the insertion velocity and the tip geometry. No correlation was found between the outer diameter and the maximum insertion force for small needles (30G – 32G). The endurance experiments showed no remarkable difference in the maximum insertion force during 100 insertions.Medical Instruments & Bio-Inspired Technolog
