    Coulomb Energy of Nuclei

    Get PDF
The density functional determining the Coulomb energy of nuclei is calculated to the first order in e2e^2. It is shown that the Coulomb energy includes three terms: the Hartree energy; the Fock energy; and the correlation Coulomb energy (CCE), which contributes considerably to the surface energy, the mass difference between mirror nuclei, and the single-particle spectrum. A CCE-based mechanism of a systematic shift of the single-particle spectrum is proposed. A dominant contribution to the CCE is shown to come from the surface region of nuclei. The CCE effect on the calculated proton drip line is examined, and the maximum charge ZZ of nuclei near this line is found to decrease by 2 or 3 units. The effect of Coulomb interaction on the effective proton mass is analyzed.Comment: 10 pages, Latex. Devoted to 90-th Anniversary of A.B. Migdal's Birthda

Based on the bioinformatic and statistical analysis of the GEO-projects to determine the genome-wide profile of human DNA methylation, a list of 27 CpG dinucleotides with a high predictive potential was formed to create models for prediction of the human age from blood samples. The methylation level was determined for 245 samples of individuals from the Republic of Belarus. The correlation coefficients R were calculated, and the mathematical models for determining the age of an individual were constructed. The average accuracy value of the age prediction from blood samples using 12 CpG-dinucleotides was 3.4 years (for men – 3.3, for women – 3.5). The results obtained will be used as a basis for development of calculators for predicting the age of an individual based on the biological traces for forensic experts.

A line-balancing strategy for designing flexible assembly systems

We present a rough-cut analysis tool that quickly determines a few potential cost-effective designs at the initial design stage of flexible assembly systems (FASs) prior to a detailed analysis such as simulation. It uses quantitative methods for selecting and configuring the components of an FAS suitable for medium to high volumes of several similar products. The system is organized as a series of assembly stations linked with an automated material-handling system moving parts in a unidirectional flow. Each station consists of a single machine or of identical parallel machines. The methods exploit the ability of flexible hardware to switch almost instantaneously from product to product. Our approach is particularly suitable where the product mix is expected to be stable, since we combine the hardware-configuration phase with the task-allocation phase.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/45513/1/10696_2004_Article_BF00167513.pd

Neurological symptoms and physiotherapy in covid-19 patients: an extended literature review.

    No full text
The aim of research work is to review and analyze currently available published scientific literature on neurological symptoms and applied physical therapy in COVID-19 patients. Specific tasks: 1. Review neurological symptoms in patients with Covid-19. 2. Reveal possible damage to the nervous system caused by SARS-CoV-2. 3. Analyze the efficacy of different physiotherapy methods in patients with SARS-CoV-2 neurological symptoms. Materials and methods: A search of scientific literature sources was conducted through PubMed, EBSCO (Academic Search Ultimate), ScienceDirect, and eLABa databases. Articles in English and Lithuanian were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria: • Full-text scientific articles, dissertations and monographs published not earlier than 5-7 years ago in English and Lithuanian. • The study sample consisted of men and women aged 18 to 90 diagnosed with Covid-19 and exhibiting neurological symptoms. • Physiotherapy was used in patients with SARS-CoV-2 neurological symptoms. Exclusion criteria: • Fewer than 20 patients participated in the studies. • Abbreviations, editorials and future research. Results: Physiotherapy significantly improves motor function in patients with Covid-19 neurological symptoms. Based on the results of studies [93, 97], patients with COVID-19 with neurological complications show greater subacute needs than those without neurological complications and require longer-term rehabilitation. A correlation was observed between better motor function scores in COVID-19 patients and the length and frequency of physiotherapy procedures. Conclusions: 1. Based on the analysis of the academic literature, it has been demonstrated that SARS - CoV - 2 virus is characterized by major neurological symptoms such as dizziness, headache, muscle aches, hyposmia, hypogeusia, loss of consciousness and convulsions. 2. This academic literature rewiew demonstrates that SARS-CoV-2 has detrimental effects on the CNS and PNS and provokes neurological diseases such as stroke, epilepsy, delirium, encephalitis, polyneuropathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, neuropathy, dysgeusia, dysphagia, dysarthria, and others. However, there is a lack of data on the neurological mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2, long-term clinical observational data confirming a relationship between coronavirus 2 and certain neurological diseases. 3. Studies examined show that interdisciplinary rehabilitation has a positive effect on motor function, respiratory function, and quality of life in patients with SARS-CoV2 neurological symptoms. Physiotherapy techniques include posture therapy, breathing exercises, a gradual mobility program, range-of-motion exercises, strength, stretching, aerobic and balance exercises, fatigue and pain management, and TENS. Telerebialization is indicated in patients with postcovid syndrome

An ILP-embedded Tabu Search heuristic for the design of integrated cellular manfacturing systems with production planning and dynamic system reconfiguration

    No full text
This paper describes a tabu search algorithm to solve the integrated cellular manufacturing systems design problem. The algorithm makes use of both short term and long term memory aspects, in combination with integer linear programming (ILP), to construct the neighbour solutions. Within the short term memory component, attributive recency based memory is used in tabu lists to determine the tabu status of move operators. Within the long-term memory structures, frequency based memory is used in the form of residency measures to guide the diversification scheme and explicit memory is used to guide the intensification scheme. Computational results show that the tabu search procedure generates good quality solutions and that better solution times are experienced compared to that of state-of-the-art optimization software, hence proves to be a viable algorithm especially for the larger sized problems. <br/

A comprehensive mathematical modeling approach to the design of cellular manufacturing systems integrating production planning and system reconfiguration

    No full text
This paper presents and analyzes a comprehensive model for the design of cellular manufacturing systems (CMS). A recurring theme in research is a piecemeal approach when formulating CMS models. In this paper, the proposed model, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, is the most comprehensive one to date with a more integrated approach to CMS design, where production planning and system reconfiguration decisions are incorporated. Such a CMS model has not been proposed before and it features the presence of alternate process routings, operation sequence, duplicate machines, machine capacity and lot splitting. The developed model is a mixed integer non-linear program. Linearization procedures are proposed to convert it into a linearized mixed integer programming formulation. Computational results are presented by solving some numerical examples, extracted from the existing literature, with the linearized formulation
