    During the research project, development of a transport system for an implantable telemetric endosystem (ITES) it was seen, that the existing puncture needle Splitocan fullfills already the requests of the system. The sensor was successfully implanted in an animal. Before future clinical application the sensor and the puncture needle have to be redesigned.     This project was directed towards the development, manufacturing and testing of mechanical heart valve prostheses. The specific aspects were based on previously manufactured models of single- and bileaflet heart valve prostheses, which had already been successfully tested. Primary goal of this project was the development of heart valves for clinical use, made of pyrolytic carbon. A reproducible manufacturing process for different valve sizes should be developed. In addition test methods for manufacturing and quality control were also planned. In-vitro tests and animal experiments should prove the suitability of the prostheses for clinical investigations. The overall aim of the project could not be reached. Up to now the reproducibility of the material properties of the pyrolytic carbon is insufficient and the durability is still not satisfactory. However, the development of the valve with respect of fluiddynamic characteristics and quality control methods is completed.
