Influence of Cr and W alloying on the fiber-matrix interfacial shear strength in cast and directionally solidified sapphire NiAl composites
Sapphire-reinforced NiAl matrix composites with chromium or tungsten as alloying additions were synthesized using casting and zone directional solidification (DS) techniques and characterized by a fiber pushout test as well as by microhardness measurements. The sapphire-NiAl(Cr) specimens exhibited an interlayer of Cr rich eutectic at the fiber-matrix interface and a higher interfacial shear strength compared to unalloyed sapphire-NiAl specimens processed under identical conditions. In contrast, the sapphire-NiAl(W) specimens did not show interfacial excess of tungsten rich phases, although the interfacial shear strength was high and comparable to that of sapphire-NiAl(Cr). The postdebond sliding stress was higher in sapphire-NiAl(Cr) than in sapphire-NiAl(W) due to interface enrichment with chromium particles. The matrix microhardness progressively decreased with increasing distance from the interface in both DS NiAl and NiAl(Cr) specimens. The study highlights the potential of casting and DS techniques to improve the toughness and strength of NiAl by designing dual-phase microstructures in NiAl alloys reinforced with sapphire fibers
Spectral quark model and low-energy hadron phenomenology
We propose a spectral quark model which can be applied to low energy hadronic
physics. The approach is based on a generalization of the Lehmann
representation of the quark propagator. We work at the one-quark-loop level.
Electromagnetic and chiral invariance are ensured with help of the gauge
technique which provides particular solutions to the Ward-Takahashi identities.
General conditions on the quark spectral function follow from natural physical
requirements. In particular, the function is normalized, its all positive
moments must vanish, while the physical observables depend on negative moments
and the so-called log-moments. As a consequence, the model is made finite,
dispersion relations hold, chiral anomalies are preserved, and the twist
expansion is free from logarithmic scaling violations, as requested of a
low-energy model. We study a variety of processes and show that the framework
is very simple and practical. Finally, incorporating the idea of vector-meson
dominance, we present an explicit construction of the quark spectral function
which satisfies all the requirements. The corresponding momentum representation
of the resulting quark propagator exhibits only cuts on the physical axis, with
no poles present anywhere in the complex momentum space. The momentum-dependent
quark mass compares very well to recent lattice calculations. A large number of
predictions and relations can be deduced from our approach for such quantities
as the pion light-cone wave function, non-local quark condensate, pion
transition form factor, pion valence parton distribution function, etc.Comment: revtex, 24 pages, 3 figure
Low Energy Chiral Lagrangian in Curved Space-Time from the Spectral Quark Model
We analyze the recently proposed Spectral Quark Model in the light of Chiral
Perturbation Theory in curved space-time. In particular, we calculate the
chiral coefficients , as well as the coefficients ,
, and , appearing when the model is coupled to gravity. The
analysis is carried for the SU(3) case. We analyze the pattern of chiral
symmetry breaking as well as elaborate on the fulfillment of anomalies.
Matching the model results to resonance meson exchange yields the relation
between the masses of the scalar, tensor and vector mesons,

Exploration of hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks via eta productions
In this work, the different exchange freedom, one gluon, one pion or
Goldstone boson, in constituent quark model is investigated, which is
responsible to the hyperfine interaction between constituent quarks, via the
combined analysis of the eta production processes,
and . With the Goldstone-boson exchange, as well as
the one-gluon or one-pion exchange, both the spectrum and observables, such as,
the differential cross section and polarized beam asymmetry, are fitted to the
suggested values of Particle Data Group and the experimental data. The first
two types of exchange freedoms give acceptable description of the spectrum and
observables while the one pion exchange can not describe the observables and
spectrum simultaneously, so can be excluded. The experimental data for the two
processes considered here strongly support the mixing angles for two lowest S11

An Integrated TCGA Pan-Cancer Clinical Data Resource to Drive High-Quality Survival Outcome Analytics
For a decade, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) program collected clinicopathologic annotation data along with multi-platform molecular profiles of more than 11,000 human tumors across 33 different cancer types. TCGA clinical data contain key features representing the democratized nature of the data collection process. To ensure proper use of this large clinical dataset associated with genomic features, we developed a standardized dataset named the TCGA Pan-Cancer Clinical Data Resource (TCGA-CDR), which includes four major clinical outcome endpoints. In addition to detailing major challenges and statistical limitations encountered during the effort of integrating the acquired clinical data, we present a summary that includes endpoint usage recommendations for each cancer type. These TCGA-CDR findings appear to be consistent with cancer genomics studies independent of the TCGA effort and provide opportunities for investigating cancer biology using clinical correlates at an unprecedented scale. Analysis of clinicopathologic annotations for over 11,000 cancer patients in the TCGA program leads to the generation of TCGA Clinical Data Resource, which provides recommendations of clinical outcome endpoint usage for 33 cancer types
Three siblings with Asperger syndrome: A family case study
Reports of multiple incidence of Asperger syndrome have suggested links between Asperger syndrome and autism. In this case study, we describe three siblings with Asperger syndrome based on the ICD-10 criteria. There was no family history of mental retardation or of autism. We propose that in some families, Asperger syndrome may occur as a distinct clinical entity and show no overlap with autism. Les publications sur l'incidence multiple du Syndrome d'Asperger ont suggéré des liens entre ce syndrome et l'autisme. Dans cette étude, nous décrivons 3 membres d'une même fratrie avec un Syndrome d'Asperger répondant aux critères d'l'ICD-10. Il n'yavait pas dans l'histoire familiale de retard mental ni d'autisme. Nous proposons que dans certaines familles le Syndrome d'Asperger peut survenir comme entité clinique distincte sand chevauchement avec l'autisme. Berichte über multiples Auftreten des Asperger-Syndroms haben Zusammenhänge zwischen dem Asperger-Syndrom und Autismus nahegelegt. In diesem Fallbericht beschreiben wir drei Geschwister mit einem Asperger-Syndrom (ICD-10-Kriterien). Die Familienanamnese im Hinblick auf geistige Behinderung oder Autismus war unauffällig. Driver Fusions and Their Implications in the Development and Treatment of Human Cancers.
Gene fusions represent an important class of somatic alterations in cancer. We systematically investigated fusions in 9,624 tumors across 33 cancer types using multiple fusion calling tools. We identified a total of 25,664 fusions, with a 63% validation rate. Integration of gene expression, copy number, and fusion annotation data revealed that fusions involving oncogenes tend to exhibit increased expression, whereas fusions involving tumor suppressors have the opposite effect. For fusions involving kinases, we found 1,275 with an intact kinase domain, the proportion of which varied significantly across cancer types. Our study suggests that fusions drive the development of 16.5% of cancer cases and function as the sole driver in more than 1% of them. Finally, we identified druggable fusions involving genes such as TMPRSS2, RET, FGFR3, ALK, and ESR1 in 6.0% of cases, and we predicted immunogenic peptides, suggesting that fusions may provide leads for targeted drug and immune therapy
