Hommage an Jörg Ruhloff
The main topic of the article is to reformulate the concept of Bildung. Reformulation in this sense means analyzing the crisis of Social Sciences and, in consequence, their problematic approach to rationalism, which is strictly orientated to the logos of Natural Sciences, even in the field of normative and symbolic spheres. The analysis focuses upon two aspects: on the one side it discusses the external reasons of the crisis which have led to an increasing reversal of the idea of Bildung. On the other side the analysis takes into consideration the internal reasons (loss of educational/pedagogical theory) for this reversal. This double centered investigation offers a revealing insight into the foundation of the educational logos which can not be described as rationalistic logos, but as logos of discourse. In consequence the educational logos requires a semantic reformulation of its main categories and means. The crisis of the foundation of theory of Educational Sciences indicates the general crisis of theory of Social ‘Sciences’, which are no longer aimed at Verstehen (comprehension) but at data-based Empirical Sciences addicted to efficiency. The proposal made in this article is to return to reflection about educational thinking, or, in other words: to get away from ‘science’ and return to thinking
Il nichilismo come destino della paideia occidentale
From Nietzsche to Heidegger, it seems that the will to power and the technique are not, if not the way today’s nihilism is articulated, ultimate fulfillment of the history of being as metaphysics but not as being. If these are the preconditions of the intrusiveness and of the inevitability nihilistic of Western metaphysics, which paideia
today is still thinkable
Private equity in Germany: the impact of debt and equity market conditions on the exit choice of private equity funds between 2000 and 2015
Private equity funds face an essential decision, when it comes to the divestment choice of a portfolio company. Using a sample of 237 private equity transactions in Germany between 2000 and 2015, I observe that private equity funds take advantage of windows of opportunity being more likely to exit through an initial public offering (IPO) during ‘hot’ equity markets. Furthermore, secondary buyouts might be more resilient to rising interest rates rather than trade sales or IPOs. Due to the presence of more private equity capital in the market, funds tend to overpay for their targets, thereby, significantly increasing the volume of secondary buyouts
In vivo confocal microscopy of an apparent deep stroma corneal dystrophy: a case report
A 41-year-old white woman was referred to our Department to rule out the presence of a Fuch's corneal dystrophy. On slit-lamp biomicroscopy, small bilateral punctuate opacities appearing mostly in the posterior stroma were observed, suggesting a differential diagnosis of pre-Descemet's dystrophy as opposed to Cornea Farinata
Precision Nephrology Is a Non-Negligible State of Mind in Clinical Research:Remember the Past to Face the Future
CKD is a major public health problem. It is characterized by a multitude of risk factors that, when aggregated, can strongly modify outcome. While major risk factors, namely, albuminuria and low estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) have been well analyzed, a large variability in disease progression still remains. This happens because (1) the weight of each risk factor varies between populations (general population or CKD cohort), countries, and single individuals and (2) response to nephroprotective drugs is so heterogeneous that a non-negligible part of patients maintains a high cardiorenal risk despite optimal treatment. Precision nephrology aims at individualizing cardiorenal prognosis and therapy. The purpose of this review is to focus on the risk stratification in different areas, such as clinical practice, population research, and interventional trials, and to describe the strategies used in observational or experimental studies to afford individual-level evidence. The future of precision nephrology is also addressed. Observational studies can in fact provide more adequate findings by collecting more information on risk factors and building risk prediction models that can be applied to each individual in a reliable fashion. Similarly, new clinical trial designs can reduce the individual variability in response to treatment and improve individual outcomes
