    Anomalous Thermoelectric power of over-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 superconductor

    Temperature dependence of thermoelectric power S(T) of three differently processed Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) samples, viz. as-processed melt quenched (Bi2212-MQ), 6000C N2-annealed (Bi2212-N2) and 6000C O2-annealed (Bi2212-O2) is reported here. All the samples possess single-phase character and their superconducting transition temperatures (TcR=0) are 85 K, 90 K and 72 K respectively for Bi2212-MQ, Bi2212-N2 and Bi2212-O2. While Bi2212-MQ and Bi2212-N2 samples are in near optimum doping regime, Bi2212-O2 is an over-doped sample. TcS=0 values obtained through S(T) data are also in line with those deduced from the temperature dependence of resistance and DC magnetization. Interestingly, S(T) behaviour of the optimally-doped Bi2212-MQ and Bi2212-N2 samples is seen to be positive in whole temperature range, it is found negative for the over-doped Bi2212-O2 sample above TcS=0. These results have been seen in the light of the recent band structure calculations and the ensuing split Fermi surface as determined by angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES).Comment: 11 Pages Text + Figs: comments welcome ([email protected]

    Seasonal changes in carbohydrate and mineral composition of overvigorous and devitalized Anab-e-Shahi grapevines in relation to uniruitiulness

    Total carbohydrates in shoots, canes and old wood were higher in fruitful vines than in overvigorous or devitalized ones. The highest percentage of total carbohydrates was observed from December to February in all three types of vines. The minimum values for total carbohydrates in shoots of bearing vines were recorded in May. Total sugars were highest in bearing vines, followed by overvigorous and devitalized ones, respectively. Non-bearing (overvigorous and devitalized) vines had maximum sugar content in February, while bearing vines reached the maximum in January. Non-reducing sugars were practically absent in all vines from March to September. The first evidence of their presence was obtained in October.Nitrogen concentration was higher in overvigorous vines, followed by bearing and devitalized ones, respectively. Its level in devitalized vines was very low throughout the year. Also the nttrogen status of devitalized vineyard was very low, as observed in soil analysis. In bearing and overvigorous vines the percentage nitrogen was higher in shoots than in old wood. There was no significant difference in the phosphorus levels of bearing and overvigorous vines. Potassium level of overvigorous vines was slightly higher than that of bearing and devitalized vines.Overvigorous vines had low carbohydrates and very high ni,trogen, bearing vines had moderate carbohydrates and moderate nitrogen, while the devitalized vines had low carbohydrates and very low nitrogen level.Die jahreszeitlichen Veränderungen der Kohlenhydrat- und Mineralstoffzusammensetzung bei luxurierenden und kümmernden Anab-e-Shahi-Reben in Beziehung zu ihrer UnfruchtbarkeitDer Gesamtkohlenhydratgehalt in grünen Trieben, Tragruten und altem Holz war bei fruchttragenden Anab-e-Shahi-Reben größer als bei luxurierenden oder kümmernden Reben. Die höchste Konzentration der Gesamtkohlenhydrate wurde bei allen drei Rebtypen von Dezember bis Februar beobachtet; in den Trieben der traubentragenden Reben wurden im Mai die niedrigsten Werte festgestellt. Die Gesamtzuckerkonzentration nahm in der Reihenfolge fruchttragende, luxurierende, kümmernde Reben ab. Bei nicht-traubentragenden (luxurierenden und kümmernden) Reben war der Zuckergehalt im Februar am größten; traubentragende Reben erreichten ihr Zuckermaximum schon im Januar. Nichtreduzierende Zucker fehlten bei allen Reben von März bis September praktisch vollständig und waren erst von Oktober an nachzuweisen.Luxurierende Reben zeigten einen höheren Stickstoffgehalt als traubentragende und kümmernde Reben. Die letzteren wiesen das ganze Jahr über sehr niedrige Stickstoffkonzentrationen auf. Bodenanalysen ergaben, daß auch ihre Parzelle sehr schwach mit Stickstoff versorgt war. Bei fruchttragenden und luxurierenden Reben enthielten die grünen Triebe prozentual mehr Stickstoff als das alte Holz. Zwischen eiern Phosphorgehalt normaler und luxurierender Reben bestand kein signifikanter Unterschied. Bei den luxurierenden Reben war der Kaliumgehalt etwas höher als bei den traubentragenden und kümmernden Reben.Luxurierende Reben besaßen wenig Kohlenhydrate und sehr viel Stickstoff, traubentragende Reben wiesen mittlere Kohlenhydrat- und Stickstoffkonzentrationen auf, während die kümmernden Reben einen niedrigen Kohlenhydrat- und einen sehr geringen Stickstoffgehalt zeigten

    Falls pose a serious threat to older adults, often resulting in physical, emotional, and financial consequences. The use of multifactorial fall prevention programs has provided community-dwelling older adults with strategies to decrease the risk of falling. Outcomes for these programs are measured in terms of such factors as fear of falling, balance and self-efficacy. One outcome of fall prevention programs that is less well understood is what the older adults themselves perceive as most beneficial. For this program evaluation project, five women participated in semi-structured interviews to understand which aspects of a multifactorial fall prevention program they found to be most beneficial. Three themes emerged in the interviews: integration of exercises into daily life, implementation of home modification recommendations, and appreciation of volunteer phone calls. Based on these themes, program enhancements were recommended

    Of mice and mates:Automated classification and modelling of mouse behaviour in groups using a single model across cages

    Behavioural experiments often happen in specialised arenas, but this may confound the analysis. To address this issue, we provide tools to study mice in the home-cage environment, equipping biologists with the possibility to capture the temporal aspect of the individual’s behaviour and model the interaction and interdependence between cage-mates with minimal human intervention. Our main contribution is the novel Global Behaviour Model (GBM) which summarises the joint behaviour of groups of mice across cages, using a permutation matrix to match the mouse identities in each cage to the model. In support of the above, we also (a) developed the Activity Labelling Module (ALM) to automatically classify mouse behaviour from video, and (b) released two datasets, ABODe for training behaviour classifiers and IMADGE for modelling behaviour

    Conducting theory‐based qualitative interviews with adults with intellectual disabilities and their carers: adaptations to facilitate participation

    Background Adults with mild–moderate intellectual disabilities have difficulties in accessing traditional evidence-based health promotion initiatives despite experiencing health disparities; yet there are few studies with this group and their carers exploring how their needs can be met. Method This study adapted a behaviour change theory-based approach to interview this group and their carers and ascertain if this method was feasible and appropriate to explore how healthier behaviour uptake could be improved amongst adults with intellectual disabilities. Results A community-based, staged recruitment process and iterative approach to data collection and analysis supported successful participation amongst adults with intellectual disabilities in behaviour-change theory-based interview research. Methodological adaptations enabled richer data collection amongst adults with mild–moderate intellectual disabilities and carers. Conclusions It is feasible and important to include adults with intellectual disabilities in qualitative health research that uses theory-based complex constructs to inform development of person-centred health promotion interventions with this underserved cohort

    Defeating the Credit Card Scams Through Machine Learning Algorithms

    Credit card fraud is a significant problem that is not going to go away. It is a growing problem and surged during the Covid-19 pandemic since more transactions are done without cash in hand now. Credit card frauds are complicated to distinguish as the characteristics of legitimate and fraudulent transactions are very similar. The performance evaluation of various Machine Learning (ML)-based credit card fraud recognition schemes are significantly pretentious due to data processing, including collecting variables and corresponding ML mechanism being used. One possible way to counter this problem is to apply ML algorithms such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), K nearest neighbor (KNN), Naive Bayes, and logistic regression. This research work aims to compare the ML as mentioned earlier models and its impact on credit card scam detection, especially in situations with imbalanced datasets. Moreover, we have proposed state of the art data balancing algorithm to solve data unbalancing problems in such situations. Our experiments show that the logistic regression has an accuracy of 99.91%, and naive bays have an accuracy of 97.65%. K nearest neighbor has an accuracy is 99.92%, support vector machine has an accuracy of 99.95%. The precision and accuracy comparison of our proposed approach shows that our model is state of the art
