Solution of an associating lattice gas model with density anomaly on a Husimi lattice
We study a model of a lattice gas with orientational degrees of freedom which
resemble the formation of hydrogen bonds between the molecules. In this model,
which is the simplified version of the Henriques-Barbosa model, no distinction
is made between donors and acceptors in the bonding arms. We solve the model in
the grand-canonical ensemble on a Husimi lattice built with hexagonal
plaquettes with a central site. The ground-state of the model, which was
originally defined on the triangular lattice, is exactly reproduced by the
solution on this Husimi lattice. In the phase diagram, one gas and two liquid
(high density-HDL and low density-LDL) phases are present. All phase
transitions (GAS-LDL, GAS-HDL, and LDL-HDL) are discontinuous, and the three
phases coexist at a triple point. A line of temperatures of maximum density
(TMD) in the isobars is found in the metastable GAS phase, as well as another
line of temperatures of minimum density (TmD) appears in the LDL phase, part of
it in the stable region and another in the metastable region of this phase.
These findings are at variance with simulational results for the same model on
the triangular lattice, which suggested a phase diagram with two critical
points. However, our results show very good quantitative agreement with the
simulations, both for the coexistence loci and the densities of particles and
of hydrogen bonds. We discuss the comparison of the simulations with our

Numerical validation of compressive strength prediction for hollow concrete blocks
The results of a numerical modeling program to evaluate the behavior of hollow concrete blocks under
uniaxial compression are addressed. It has been considered appropriate to use interface elements to
represent the confinement effect at the top and bottom of blocks. The response of the numerical
simulations is compared with experimental data of masonry units. Laboratory tests were carried out
utilizing standard flat platens and brush platens to evaluate the confinement effect due block
geometry. The elastic and inelastic parameters compressive strength, tensile strength, stress-strain
relationships and fracture energy were acquired from concrete samples that constitute the blocks.
The results from the theoretical analysis are discussed with respect to the ability to reproduce the
experimental tests. Good agreement between experimental and numerical results was found for the
peak load
Diffusion Enhancement in Core-softened fluid confined in nanotubes
We study the effect of confinement in the dynamical behavior of a
core-softened fluid. The fluid is modeled as a two length scales potential.
This potential in the bulk reproduces the anomalous behavior observed in the
density and in the diffusion of liquid water. A series of Molecular
Dynamics simulations for this two length scales fluid confined in a nanotube
were performed. We obtain that the diffusion coefficient increases with the
increase of the nanotube radius for wide channels as expected for normal
fluids. However, for narrow channels, the confinement shows an enhancement in
the diffusion coefficient when the nanotube radius decreases. This behavior,
observed for water, is explained in the framework of the two length scales

Tripartite Graph Clustering for Dynamic Sentiment Analysis on Social Media
The growing popularity of social media (e.g, Twitter) allows users to easily
share information with each other and influence others by expressing their own
sentiments on various subjects. In this work, we propose an unsupervised
\emph{tri-clustering} framework, which analyzes both user-level and tweet-level
sentiments through co-clustering of a tripartite graph. A compelling feature of
the proposed framework is that the quality of sentiment clustering of tweets,
users, and features can be mutually improved by joint clustering. We further
investigate the evolution of user-level sentiments and latent feature vectors
in an online framework and devise an efficient online algorithm to sequentially
update the clustering of tweets, users and features with newly arrived data.
The online framework not only provides better quality of both dynamic
user-level and tweet-level sentiment analysis, but also improves the
computational and storage efficiency. We verified the effectiveness and
efficiency of the proposed approaches on the November 2012 California ballot

A Deductive Verification Platform for Cryptographic Software
In this paper we describe a deductive verification platform for the CAO language. CAO is a domain-specific language for cryptography. We show that this language presents interesting challenges for formal verification, not only in the rich mathematical type system that it introduces, but also in the cryptography-oriented language constructions that it offers. We describe how we tackle these problems, and also demonstrate that, by relying on the Jessie plug-in included in the Frama-C framework, the development time of such a complex verification tool could be greatly reduced. We base our presentation on real-world examples of CAO code, extracted from the open-source code of the NaCl cryptographic library, and illustrate how various cryptography-relevant security properties can be verified
Triaxial compression tests on bedding mortar samples looking at confinement effect analysis
This paper presents an analysis of the mechanical behavior of bedding mortar samples under
triaxial compression tests. When masonry is subjected to vertical loads, mechanical
interactions between blocks and bedding mortar at the joints induce lateral tension and
compression stresses. Thus, the mortar layer is submitted to a triaxial stress state that
modifies its mechanical properties and behavior under confinement effects. This
phenomenon may affect the failure mode of masonry and almost no information about this
subject is found in literature. Here, test procedures are detailed and results are discussed. In
addition to the compressive strength test results, also elastic modulus and Poisson ratio
values are addressed. Significant differences were observed among triaxial and uniaxial
standard test results. The obtained mortar behavior under different levels of lateral pressure
is compared with test results done by other researchers in order to produce relevant

The Sunyaev Zel'dovich effect: simulation and observation
The Sunyaev Zel'dovich effect (SZ effect) is a complete probe of ionized
baryons, the majority of which are likely hiding in the intergalactic medium.
We ran a CDM simulation using a moving mesh hydro code to
compute the statistics of the thermal and kinetic SZ effect such as the power
spectra and measures of non-Gaussianity. The thermal SZ power spectrum has a
very broad peak at multipole with temperature fluctuations
K. The power spectrum is consistent with available
observations and suggests a high and a possible role of
non-gravitational heating. The non-Gaussianity is significant and increases the
cosmic variance of the power spectrum by a factor of for .
We explore optimal driftscan survey strategies for the AMIBA CMB
interferometer and their dependence on cosmology. For SZ power spectrum
estimation, we find that the optimal sky coverage for a 1000 hours of
integration time is several hundred square degrees. One achieves an accuracy
better than 40% in the SZ measurement of power spectrum and an accuracy better
than 20% in the cross correlation with Sloan galaxies for . For
cluster searches, the optimal scan rate is around 280 hours per square degree
with a cluster detection rate 1 every 7 hours, allowing for a false positive
rate of 20% and better than 30% accuracy in the cluster SZ distribution
