Revisiting doping mechanisms of n-type organic materials with N-DMBI for thermoelectric applications: Photo-activation, thermal activation, and air stability
International audienceUnderstanding doping mechanisms is essential for optimizing the doping efficiency and rationally designing next generations of dopants and organic materials. Over the last years, N-DMBI became a reference solution-processed n-type dopant, affording decent air-stability and record power factor for thermoelectric energy generation. Nevertheless, a complet
Financial impact of intravenous iron treatments on the management of anaemia inpatients: a 1 year observational study
International audienceBackground Intravenous (IV) iron preparations bypass the difficulties (malabsorption and side effects) associated with oral iron for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). Ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) can be administered as a single infusion over short periods of time but is more expensive than iron sucrose (IS) when the patients are hospitalized. Objectives To evaluate the appropriateness of FCM prescriptions and to establish the economic impact of this management (including disease coding) compared to the use of IV IS. Setting This study was conducted for inpatients in all departments (orthopaedic department, gastroenterology department and two units of the internal medicine department) where FCM was widely prescribed. Method We retrospectively identified 224 patients, diagnosed with IDA using laboratory parameters and/or disease coding, who received FCM between January and December 2014. Main outcome measure The primary outcome was the rate of appropriateness of FCM prescriptions and the financial impact compared to IV IS. Results 89 Patients were included. The total additional cost for an inappropriate prescription of IV FCM (68% of cases) was of 6053 €. The total incremental cost of unsuitable disease coding was estimated at 31,688 €. Indications for IV FCM were categorized: intestinal bleeding (31%), malabsorption (17%), intolerance (9%) and refractory to oral iron (7%). The majority of patients (62%) received 1000 mg of FCM per week. The average length of hospital stay was of 10 days. Conclusion The prescription of IV iron was appropriate in most cases but did not necessarily require FCM. The use of IV IS, in many cases, could present a cost-saving option for inpatients with IDA. The lack of an IDA coding generated incremental costs
Application of a pulse programmable fiber laser to a broad range of micro-processing applications
Spatial beam shaping has long been utilized to improve laser processes and has often generated spectacular improvements in the end results. Until recently the temporal shape of laser pulses has been limited by the design parameters of the laser cavities and shaping in the temporal domain has remained relatively unexplored. The advent of the MOPA fiber laser has opened the door to creating arbitrary temporal waveforms with shape, energy, and duration being entirely independent from the laser repetition rate and changeable “on the fly.” This new degree of freedom in the laser processing parameter space has not only enabled new and improved laser processes but provided a new tool to study the dynamics of the laser material interaction itself which can greatly speed process development. Furthermore having this flexibility allows a single laser to cover a range of process parameters that heretofore normally required using several separate laser system. In this work we report on the application of temporal pulse shaping to CIGS P2 & P3 processing, CIGS P1 processing (molybdenum on glass), a-Silicon P1 processing (ZnO on glass), c-Silicon via hole drilling for emitter wrap through (EWT) and other processes using the PyroFlex 25 pulse programmable fiber laser. The temporal pulse shaping feature of the laser is demonstrated as a tool to probe the process dynamics and speed up the determination of optimal process parameters. When applicable, results between the pulse shape of a traditional laser and an optimized laser pulse shapes are compared.
Case of Giant Cell Arteritis After SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination: A Particular Phenotype?
International audienceWe read with great interest the article by Mehta et al about the similarities and discriminators between giant cell arteritis (GCA) and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). 1 Viruses have been suspected to be implicated in the pathogenesis of GCA, especially the varicella zoster virus, 2 but a clear association has not been confirmed.
