Detection of a Third Planet in the HD 74156 System Using the Hobby-Eberly Telescope
We report the discovery of a third planetary mass companion to the G0 star HD
74156. High precision radial velocity measurements made with the Hobby-Eberly
Telescope aided the detection of this object. The best fit triple Keplerian
model to all the available velocity data yields an orbital period of 347 days
and minimum mass of 0.4 M_Jup for the new planet. We determine revised orbital
periods of 51.7 and 2477 days, and minimum masses of 1.9 and 8.0 M_Jup
respectively for the previously known planets. Preliminary calculations
indicate that the derived orbits are stable, although all three planets have
significant orbital eccentricities (e = 0.64, 0.43, and 0.25). With our
detection, HD 74156 becomes the eighth normal star known to host three or more
planets. Further study of this system's dynamical characteristics will likely

Enhancing the work of the Islington Integrated Gangs Team: A pilot study on the response to serious youth violence in Islington
This report is the result of research conducted by the Centre for City Criminology at City, University of London, in partnership with Islington’s Integrated Gangs Team (IGT) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). The research was co-funded by MPS and the School of Arts and Social Sciences, City, University of London. Following a collaborative research event in October 2017, City Criminologists were commissioned to carry out a small-scale research project to capture the work of the IGT and to make recommendations regarding its operations, coherence, effectiveness and sustainability. The research team conducted semi-structured interviews over several months with 23 practitioners across the services that constitute the IGT. This report presents the findings and recommendations
Cobalt(II) complexes with azole-pyridine type ligands for non-aqueous redox-flow batteries:tunable electrochemistry via structural modification
Abstract A single species redox flow battery employing a new class of cobalt(II) complexes with ‘tunable’ tridentate azole-pyridine type ligands is reported. Four structures were synthesised and their electrochemical, physical and battery characteristics were investigated as a function of successive substitution of the ligand terminal pyridyl donors. The Co(II/I) and Co(III/II) couples are stable and quasi-reversible on gold and glassy carbon electrodes, however redox potentials are tunable allowing the cobalt potential difference to be preferentially increased from 1.07 to 1.91 V via pyridine substitution with weaker σ-donating/π-accepting 3,5-dimethylpyrazole groups. The charge-discharge properties of the system were evaluated using an H-type glass cell and graphite rod electrodes. The complexes delivered high Coulombic efficiencies of 89.7–99.8% and very good voltaic efficiencies of 70.3–81.0%. Consequently, energy efficiencies are high at 63.1–80.8%, marking an improvement on other similar non-aqueous systems. Modification of the ligands also improved solubility from 0.18 M to 0.50 M via pyridyl substitution with 3,5-dimethylpyrazole, though the low solubility of the complexes limits the overall energy capacity to between 2.58 and 12.80 W h L−1. Preliminary flow cell studies in a prototype flow cell are also demonstrated

What are the strategies, modalities and aspirations of island-based, stateless nationalist and regionalist parties in the twenty-first century? Political independence is now easier to achieve, even by the smallest of territories; yet, it is not so likely to be pursued with any vigour by the world's various persisting sub-national (and mainly island) jurisdictions. Theirs is a pursuit of different expressions of sub-national autonomy, stopping short of independence. And yet, a number of independence referenda are scheduled, including one looming in Scotland in autumn 2014
