    EVALUATION OF ANALGESIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITIES OF FORMULATION CONTAINING CAMPHOR, MENTHOL AND THYMOL

    Objective: To determine analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity of a oily formulation containing camphor, menthol and thymol as ingredients in wistar albino mice and rats.Methods: Acute toxicity studies were done as per OECD 423 guidelines. No signs of toxicity were observed up to 2000 mg/kg. Based on the mortality rate dose was designed. Analgesic activity was performed in Swiss albino mice by Hot plate method. Anti inflammatory activity was performed in male Wistar rats by turpentine induced inflammation model.Results: The formulation at a dose of (100 mg/kg & 200 mg/kg) produced a dose dependent significant analgesic effect in hot plate method (p<0.001). However the formulation at a dose of (250 mg/kg & 500 mg/kg) showed anti-inflammatory effect (p<0.001) when compared with the control group.Conclusion: In the above investigations OFCMT (oily formulation of camphor, menthol and thymol) has shown tremendous protection from pain and Inflammation in experimental animals the above pharmacological effects may be due to the presence of monoterpenoids in the formulation.Â

    Case report: Axillary lymph node metastases from primary ovarian cancer: a report of two cases and literature review

    Ovarian cancer is usually confined intraperitoneally. Distant metastases at presentation is unusual. Its spread via lymphatics is uncommon, and metastasis to axillary lymph nodes is very rare. We report two cases with presentation of axillary lymphadenopathy without breast involvement. Computed tomography scan identified the ovarian masses. Both had elevated Serum Ca 125. The first case had a Grade 2 ovarian endometrioid carcinoma. The second case had a high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. These cases illustrate the rarity of axillary lymphadenopathy from ovarian cancer. It is important to identify the primary ovarian carcinoma in order to offer appropriate management. Despite surgery and chemotherapy, both succumbed within 3 years from diagnosis

    Anti N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor encephalitis with ovarian teratoma: a dilemma in diagnosis

    We report a rare case of altered mental status in a young patient with immature ovarian teratoma. A 22-year-old woman presented with seizures, hallucination, amnesia and orofacial dyskinesia. Examination and investigation revealed an ovarian massand asalphing-oophorectomy was performed. The histopathological examination result showed an immature teratoma grade 2 with thepresence of immature primitive glial tissue. Her CSF N-Methyl-D-Aspartic acid receptor (Anti-NMDAR) antibodytest was positive. N-Methyl-D-Aspartic acid receptor antibody associated limbic encephalitis is an autoimmune antibody-mediated neuropsychiatric disorder. Resection of the tumour and immunotherapy resulted in full recovery
