Data in support of high rate of pregnancy related deaths in Maiduguri, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria

    No full text
Pregnancy related deaths (PRD) are public health concern in most developing countries and Nigeria in particular. Despite the efforts put in by the concerned authorities, PRD remains an integral part of maternal mortality or maternal deaths in Nigeria in general and Borno state in particular, as evidenced from the records obtained from Umaru Shehu Hospital, Maiduguri (a state hospital in the state capital. The data contains frequency of PRD in months and grouped into gynaecology, ante-natal and post-natal, and labour obtained from mid-2009 to mid - 2017. The statistical analysis of the data may reveal the extent of incidence or epidemiology of PRD is in the state. OVERVIEW OF SCHEDULING PROBLEMS WITH LEARNING EFFECT, DETERIORATING EFFECT, MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY AND NON- MONOTONIC TIME-DEPENDENT PROCESSING TIMES

    No full text
In recent times many research has been focused on assumption that processing times of a job is unfixed. In practice, thus the processing time ofa job processing time of a job may changes due to some factors. We investigated factors that affect the varying processing time of a job under different machine environments. We were able to identify four factors that may influence processing time of a job, these include learning effect, deteriorating effect, maintenance activity and non-monotonic time-dependent processing time. In this paper, we discussed machine environments and their assumption and some features of jobs processing times. We also gave a concise overview on the literature on scheduling with learning effect, deteriorating effect, maintenance activity and non-monotonous time dependent processing times. The emphasis was on single machine, parallel machine and flowshop machine while few work are done on open shop and job shop machines. We discovered that these factors are never been considered simultaneously. Dynamic programming and machine learning approach methods are not been used while hybrid meta-heuristics methods are scarcely used in all the machine environments under these constraints

T-Dagum: A Way of Generalizing Dagum Distribution Using Lomax Quantile Function

    No full text
Recently, different distributions have been generalized using the T-R {Y} framework but the possibility of using Dagum distribution has not been assessed. The T-R {Y} combines three distributions, with one as a baseline distribution, with the strength of each distribution combined to produce greater effect on the new generated distribution. The new generated distributions would have more parameters but would have high flexibility in handling bimodality in datasets and it is a weighted hazard function of the baseline distribution. This paper therefore generalized the Dagum distribution using the quantile function of Lomax distribution. A member of T-Dagum class of distribution called exponentiated-exponential-Dagum {Lomax} (EEDL) distribution was proposed. The distribution will be useful in survival analysis and reliability studies. Different characterizations of the distribution are derived, such as the asymptotes, stochastic ordering, stress-strength analysis, moment, Shannon entropy, and quantile function. Simulated and real data are used and compared favourably with existing distributions in the literature

Differential Evolution in Wireless Communications: A Review

    No full text
Differential Evolution (DE) is an evolutionary computational method inspired by the biological processes of evolution and mutation. DE has been applied in numerous scientific fields. The paper presents a literature review of DE and its application in wireless communication. The detailed history, characteristics, strengths, variants and weaknesses of DE were presented. Seven broad areas were identified as different domains of application of DE in wireless communications. It was observed that coverage area maximisation and energy consumption minimisation are the two major areas where DE is applied. Others areas are quality of service, updating mechanism where candidate positions learn from a large diversified search region, security and related field applications. Problems in wireless communications are often modelled as multiobjective optimisation which can easily be tackled by the use of DE or hybrid of DE with other algorithms. Different research areas can be explored and DE will continue to be utilized in this context

Analysis of dataset on editorial board composition of Dove Medical Press by continent

    No full text
This article presents the frequency of distribution of editorial members of Dove Medical press, across the world based on their official stated affiliations. Uneven distributions across the six continents were observed and this was confirmed by the Chi-square test of goodness of fit. Further research can focus on data on the gender composition, distribution of the affiliations of the first or corresponding authors of the respective journals, citation and editorial board composition based on the abstraction and indexation of the journals. Exploration of UK Lotto results classified into two periods

    No full text
United Kingdom Lotto results are obtained from urn containing some numbers of which six winning numbers and one bonus are drawn at each draw event. There is always a need from prospective players for analysis that can aid them in increasing their chances of winning. In this paper, historical data of the United Kingdom Lotto results were grouped into two periods (19/11/1994–7/10/2015 and 10/10/2015–10/5/2017). The classification was as a result of increase of the lotto numbers from 49 to 59. Exploratory statistical and mathematical tools were used to obtain new patterns of winning numbers. The data can provide insights on the random nature and distribution of the winning numbers and help prospective players in increasing their chances of winning the lotto

This data article contains the statistical analysis of Igbo personal names and a sample of randomly selected of such names. This was presented as the following: 1). A simple random sampling of some Igbo personal names and their respective gender associated with each name. 2). The distribution of the vowels, consonants and letters of alphabets of the personal names. 3). The distribution of name length. 4). The distribution of initial and terminal letters of Igbo personal names. The significance of the data was discussed.
