Electrical plasmon injection in double-layer graphene heterostructures

It is by now well established that high-quality graphene enables a gate-tunable low-loss plasmonic platform for the efficient confinement, enhancement, and manipulation of optical fields spanning a broad range of frequencies, from the mid infrared to the Terahertz domain. While all-electrical detection of graphene plasmons has been demonstrated, electrical plasmon injection (EPI), which is crucial to operate nanoplasmonic devices without the encumbrance of a far-field optical apparatus, remains elusive. In this work, we present a theory of EPI in double-layer graphene, where a vertical tunnel current excites acoustic and optical plasmon modes. We first calculate the power delivered by the applied inter-layer voltage bias into these collective modes. We then show that this system works also as a spectrally-resolved molecular sensor.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure

Disaggregated estimates of output supply and input demand elasticities

    Get PDF
Designed for consistency with competitive theory, nonrejected simplifying assumptions and multi stage choice, aggregate dual models are specified of Texas agricultural production. Disaggregated own and cross price elasticities are derived for 25 commodity supplies and six input demands. Estimated supplies and demands are largely inelastic. Outputs are mainly economic substitutes and inputs are economic complements.

MULTIPLE-OUTPUT PRODUCTION MODELED WITH THREE FUNCTIONAL FORMS

Aggregate dual models are specified to examine multiple-output production relationships in each of four major, geographically dispersed, agricultural states (California, Iowa, Texas, and Florida). Three locally-flexible functional forms (translog, generalized Leontief, and normalized quadratic) are employed to conduct analytic simplification tests, estimate systems of output supply and input demand equations consistent with nonrejected hypotheses, derive elasticities, and determine to what extent analytic simplification tests and policy-relevant results are sensitive to functional form and state. Important differences in empirical implications were found due both to functional form and geographic unit, but differences were greater for the latter.Production Economics,

Magnetic hallmarks of viscous electron flow in graphene

We propose a protocol to identify spatial hallmarks of viscous electron flow in graphene and other two-dimensional viscous electron fluids. We predict that the profile of the magnetic field generated by hydrodynamic electron currents flowing in confined geometries displays unambiguous features linked to whirlpools and backflow near current injectors. We also show that the same profile sheds light on the nature of the boundary conditions describing friction exerted on the electron fluid by the edges of the sample. Our predictions are within reach of vector magnetometry based on nitrogen-vacancy centers embedded in a diamond slab mounted onto a graphene layer.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure

An Evaluation of an Interactive Computerized Training to Teach Instructors How to Respond During an Active Shooter Situation

Active shooter events in the U.S. are occurring more often in commercial environment and schools. In these emergency situations educators must quickly decide to complete actions that will protect themselves and their students. Typically, during these situations, the educator should complete in a run, hide, or fight sequence of behaviors. The educator must also consider challenges for their student’s particular disabilities during these situations. Interactive computerized training (ICT) may be one easy method to teach educators these procedures. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of interactive computerized training to help educators learn how to respond during two active shooter situations when caring for an individual with autism spectrum disorder. After completing the 90 min interactive computerized training, all educators responded correctly to each type of active shooter situation. These correct responses continued after a 2-week period without practice
