The purpose of this study is to examine the most important poetic theories provided by monk-poets(่ฉฉๅง). namely Eoneo Daedoron (่จ่ชๅคง้่ซ), Siseon Ilmiron (ๆ็ฆชไธๅณ่ซ), and Seongjeong Jijeongron (ๆงๆ
ไนๆญฃ่ซ). Eoneo Daedoron is a theory that affirms poetry written on the subject of the everyday world as a metaphor for the larger truth about human morals. Poetic images created using the language of metaphor express the larger truth. and conversely, to express the larger truth, poetic images must be created using metaphors. Siseon Ilmiron is the theory where writing poetry and practicing Zen are considered to be the same. As a result of this theory, the relative independence and the meaning inherent within the act of writing poetry was acknowledged, and the range of poetry approved by the Buddhist community grew significantly in both the writing and teaching of poetry, The poetic theory of Seonjeong Jijeongron insists that poetry must help in regaining one's true nature, or in improving it. This theory claims that although the monk-poet dealt with the same subject matters as laymen poets, the former living within the tranquility of nature could produce superior nature poems that contain elements of higher understanding, If one places the practice of Zen as the top priority while still affirming language. particularly poetic expression within poetry. one sides with Eon'eo Daedoron. In constrast, if one approves of poetic prolificacy and diverse subject matters. placing poetry as a top priority and keeping only a loose connection with Zen. he is leaning towards Siseon Ilmiron. The poetic theory of Seonjeong Jijeongron was created because monk-poets studied Confucianism. and the tolerant interaction between Confucianism and Buddhism increased. resulting in a need to justify a situation where poetry written by monks and the literati no longer had any distinction between them
