With shoes being an important aspect of our modern civilization, the relationship between their improper use must be understood and how they can reduce and increase the joint torques and joint loading. Literature has shown the negative affects of high heels, shoes with thick soles and slippers, etc. The participants of this study were in their twenties (10 males, 8 females) who wore both medially and laterally worn soles for 40 minutes and their gait patterns, i.e. joint angles, ground reaction forces, center of mass, and center of pressure, and the erector spinae muscle activity, were recorded. Qualisys and Noraxon systems were used for motion and EMG data. The results showed that there were significant differences in the center of gravity and center of pressure, ankle, knee, hip joint, waist angle patterns between lateral and medial soled shoes and normal shoes. By observing the significant differences in ankle, knee and hip torques, muscles that were unbalanced and fatigued could be predicted. This study also showed the effect that the shape of shoe soles (the position and amount of wear and tear) can have on the activation of the lower back muscle, the erector spinae. The change in shoe soles is common however there is still a large dearth of information regarding the effects on gait patterns, muscle activities, joint forces, etc. Further research focusing on the effects of differently shaped shoe sole abrasion is needed to be able to recommend and suggest they induce an abnormal gait. The findings of this study reveal that shoes with lateral or medial worn down soles can negatively influence our gait pattern and thus change our muscle activations, possibly leading to back pain. It is therefore important to know the amount of wear and tear occurring in our shoe soles. To combat this problem we recommend that shoes should be checked regularly for signs of wear and tear and changed accordingly. Future studies need to include the affect that worn shoes have on lower limb and back pain.1. ์š”ํ†ต(Low Back Pain, Backache)๊ณผ ๋ณดํ–‰ 21 ์ œ 3 ์žฅ.

Studies on the autistic-like behavior induced by VRK3 deletion and treatment effects by TrkB stimulation

    No full text
DoctorVaccinia-related kinases (VRKs) are multifaceted serine/threonine kinases that play essential roles in various aspects of cell signaling, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and neuronal development and differentiation. However, the neuronal function of VRK3 is still unknown in spite of its etiological potential in human autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Here, we report that VRK3-deficient mice exhibited typical symptoms of autism-like behavior including hyperactivity, stereotyped behaviors, reduced social interaction, and impaired context-dependent spatial memory as well as deficits in pain sensation. Significant decrease in dendritic spine number and arborization were identified in the hippocampus CA1 of VRK3-deficient mice. These mice also exhibited a reduced rectification of AMPA receptor-mediated current and changes in expression of synaptic and signaling proteins including TrkB, Arc and CaMKIIฮฑ. Notably, TrkB stimulation with 7, 8-dihydroxyflavone (7, 8-DHF) reversed the altered synaptic structure and function, and successfully restored autism-like behavior in VRK3-deficient mice. In addition, we found that peripheral VRK3 plays an important role in pain sensitivity after inflammation and nerve injury. These results reveal that VRK3 plays a critical role in neurodevelopmental disorders and suggest a potential therapeutic strategy for ASD
