INFLUENCE OF VINE VIGOR GROWTH ON CODREANCA (BLACK MAGIC) TABLE GRAPES QUALITY
The stressful climatic conditions of the last years have led to the need to pay more attention to the native varieties, which are adapted to the local conditions and ensure the obtaining of quality harvests. Autochthonous varieties of table grapes have dietary properties, attractive exterior appearance and excellent taste qualities.This work presents a 3-year study of the variability of grape composition of Codreanca (Black Magic) – a Moldavian grape variety, in a vineyard located in Purcari (Republic of Moldova). Grapevine were different pruned according to growth vigor: low - 18 – 22 buds (1 spur and 2 canes); medium vigor – 24 - 28 buds (1 spur and 3 canes) and high vigor – 30 - 34 buds (2 spurs and 4 canes). Climatic conditions and growth vigor had an important influence on vine fertility and productivity. Results showed that vine balance at which vegetative and reproductive growth can be sustained with adequate fruit production and desired fruit quality was found to be for Codreanca on vines with medium vigor. Grapes harvested from medium vigor vine recorded optimum values of quality (sugar and acid content, sugar/acid ratio) and cluster indexes (average weight, lenght and width, berry lenght and width, berry weight, grape and berry composition, cluster structure index, berry index, berry composition index, berry sfericity and cluster compactness). Viticultural practices used by grape growers can also increase or decrease vine growth as needed, to obtain high quality production
Cardiac rehabilitation centers in Romania: Where are we now?
Purpose: In 2024, Romania is still facing a critical challenge with high cardiovascular disease mortality rates despite extensive research and policy initiatives. Our study sought to examine the actual state of cardiac rehabilitation in Romania by identifying the healthcare facilities that provide and deliver cardiac rehabilitation services.
Methods: The research began with a comprehensive investigation into cardiac rehabilitation centers across Romania. This involved leveraging search engines to identify these facilities. Keywords like “cardiac rehabilitation”, “cardiovascular rehabilitation”, and “cardiac rehabilitation centers” were instrumental in pinpointing relevant information, which included names, geographical locations, and contact details of the centers. Upon identification of potential centers, our research team initiated direct engagement with these facilities via telephonic interviews.
Results: The data collected in 2024 was compared to previous findings from a 2017 research report to evaluate the progress and impact of prevention efforts over time. While the number of cardiac rehabilitation centers has grown (69.2% increase in the nationwide count of cardiac rehabilitation centers/facilities), an uneven geographic distribution persists, exacerbated by disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the cardiac rehabilitation centers identified, 23% are located in balneoclimatic resorts, but the majority of cardiac rehabilitation centers are located in Bucharest.
Overall, 65.3% of all identified centers in Romania belong to the private healthcare sector. Among these private centers, 41.1% offer cardiac rehabilitation programs as continuous inpatient care, with durations ranging from 5 to 16 days. All cardiac rehabilitation centers are equipped with the necessary equipment to perform basic cardiological investigations as well as physio-kinesiological rehabilitative procedures, in addition to aerobic physical training (53.8%). In 33.3% of the identified centers, diabetologists and psychologists/psychotherapists are integral members of the multidisciplinary cardiac rehabilitation team, while only 19.2% of the centers include a dietitian/nutritionist.
Regarding costs, there is significant variation depending on the geographical area. In Bucharest, a single rehabilitation session costs between 100 to 400 lei (20 to 80 €), and a rehabilitation program spanning 4-6 weeks can cost up to 3350 lei. Comparing costs identified in 2017, we have observed an increase ranging from 47% to 188% in 2024.
Conclusions: Despite an increase in the number of cardiac rehabilitation centers, their prevalence remains inadequate to fulfill the demands of the population. Telerehabilitation emerges as a promising solution, with limited adoption in only one center. Cost variations across regions pose a barrier to patient participation. Our article proposes strategies including decision algorithms for personalized recommendations, expanding cardiac rehabilitation centers, and advocating for comprehensive cost reimbursement. The urgent need for collaborative efforts is emphasized, envisioning innovative solutions like mobile applications to foster a sense of community and optimize cardiac rehabilitation, ultimately improving cardiovascular health outcomes in Romania

Quantitative GIS Model for Evaluating the Favorability of Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) Culture for Suitable Varieties in Romania: Case Study Bihor County
The adaptation measures of agricultural crops to current climate change are also reflected at the level of land-use planning for species with resistance to rainfall shortages and periods of prolonged droughts. The present paper aimed at the spatial modeling of land favorability for alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) within Bihor county, which is located in Northwest Romania. This was performed by using GIS spatial analysis techniques, particularly the technique of rating agricultural plots by using as a modeling basis the synthetic climate indicators, soil indices, as well as topographic characteristics, which are considered relevant for the studied species. As a result of the modeling process, agricultural plots that are favorable for the alfalfa culture were identified. A comparative analysis of the profit was also carried out both for the green and dry masses of eight types of alfalfa, which are suitable for the national environmental conditions. Land favorability modeling for alfalfa cultivation will be carried out by using GIS spatial analysis techniques, which allow the use of large databases while maintaining the necessary degree of detail, and they make possible the correlations between factors and production estimated per hectare, which are correlations that are characteristic for the environmental factors. Thus, for the studied territory, the best green alfalfa production was identified as being obtained from the Carinca and Daniela varieties, whereas the Mihaela and Teodora varieties were noticed to provide the best dry alfalfa production
Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Actions of Polyphenols from Red and White Grape Pomace in Ischemic Heart Diseases
Grape pomace (GP) represents a very reliable source of polyphenols because it could be found globally as a remnant of the wine industry. During the winemaking process, two types of GP are generated: red GP and white GP, according to the produced wine, red or white. Grape pomace represents a viable source of polyphenols, mainly flavanols, procyanidins anthocyanins, and resveratrol which possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Multiple differences were observed between red and white GP in terms of their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in both in vitro and in vivo studies. Although most studies are focused on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect of red grape pomace, there are still many variables that need to be taken into consideration, as well as extensive study of the white GP. It was observed that in both in vitro and in vivo studies, the GP polyphenols have a direct antioxidant activity by acting as a free radical scavenger or donating a hydrogen atom. It also possesses an indirect antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity by reducing mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, malondialdehyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1-beta (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF- κβ), and inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta (Iκκβ) levels or nitrate oxide-4 (NOX4) expression and by increasing the levels of antioxidants enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) glutathione reductase (GRx) and glutathione peroxidase(GPx). Besides these activities, many beneficial effects in ischemic heart diseases were also observed, such as the maintenance of the ventricular function as close as possible to normal, and the prevention of infarcted area extension. FT-IR Characterization of Pollen Biochemistry, Viability, and Germination Capacity in Saintpaulia H. Wendl. Genotypes
FT-IR characterization of pollen biochemistry was analyzed to detect possible connection with the viability (by staining with potassium iodide, 25%) and the germination capacity (on solid nutrient medium), in 15 Saintpaulia genotypes. Vibrational spectroscopy indicates that the pollen of S. ionantha genotype “Red Velvet” is rich in proteins, lipids, triglycerides, and esters and has a viability of 88.4% and a low germination capacity (27.16%). For S. ionantha “Jolly Red” and “Lucky Ladybug” genotypes, pollen showed high viability (88.81–91.49%) and low germination capacity (23.02–9.17%), even though the pollen is rich in carbohydrates. S. ionantha “Aloha Orchid” genotype has the highest percentage of viability (94.32%) and germination capacity (45.73%) and a rich content of carbohydrates and polygalacturonic acids. In S. rupicola and S. ionantha genotypes, the rich content of polygalacturonic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates favourably influenced the germination capacity. Spectroscopic result indicates, through different absorbance band intensity, a possible link between biochemical composition, viability, and germination capacity of Saintpaulia pollen. To determine exactly the relation between biochemistry and biological processes, it is necessary to initiate quantitative researches
