Analysis and Evaluation of Human Movement based on Laban Movement Analysis

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]In the past, in the domain of human movement, athletes, dancers and rehabilitation relied heavily on experts to judge whether or not learners' movements were correct, and offered suggestions for improvement. By way of modern science and technology, analyses via sensors can determine the motion of each body region. Our research is based on the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) of dance, where data from several sensors are analyzed. According to the aforementioned sensor data, we can examine the efforts made by learners' movements. In this paper, we use LMA sudden and sustained efforts to analyze these movements and construct a guiding language system in accordance with expert guiding language already available. This system will provide suggestions for students even in the absence of expert advice. In this way, learners can learn in such a self-taught way.[[notice]]補正完畢[[incitationindex]]EI[[booktype]]紙

Constructing an intelligent behavior avatar in a virtual world: a self-learning model based on reinforcement

[[abstract]]In this paper, a novel method for personal intelligent behavior avatar (IBA) is proposed to acquire autonomous behavior based on the interactions between user and smart objects in the virtual environment. In this method, the behavior decision model and the self-learning model are integrated by Bayesian networks and reinforcement learning. The Bayesian networks can treat interaction experiences using statistical processes, and the sureness of decision making is represented by certainty factors using stochastic reasoning. The reinforcement learning is implemented by learning experimentation or trial and error mechanisms to improve the performance of IBA through feedback. Therefore, the IBA makes a strategic decision that is approximated and appropriate to the user through the self-learning process by reinforcement learning. Finally, the feasibility of this method is investigated by imitating user's behavior and the results of self-learning process. The results of simulation show that the method is successful in imitating user's behavior and improving the performance of IBA.[[conferencetype]]國際[[conferencedate]]20050815~20050817[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]San Diego, CA, US

A Chinese Interactive Feedback System for a Virtual Campus

[[abstract]]Considering the popularity of the Internet, an automatic interactive feedback system for E-learning websites is becoming increasingly desirable. However, computers still have problems understanding natural languages, especially the Chinese language, firstly because the Chinese language has no space to segment lexical entries (its segmentation method is more difficult than that of English) and secondly because of the lack of a complete grammar in the Chinese language, making parsing more difficult and complicated. Building an automated Chinese feedback system for special application domains could solve these problems. This paper proposes an interactive feedback mechanism in a virtual campus that can parse, understand and respond to Chinese sentences. This mechanism utilizes a specific lexical database according to the particular application. In this way, a virtual campus website can implement a special application domain that chooses the proper response in a user friendly, accurate and timely manner.[[incitationindex]]EI[[booktype]]ç´™

A transmission service with three-queue management for a distributed remote monitoring environment

[[abstract]]A high-speed fixed network is not suitable for a distributed remote monitoring environment because it lacks mobility. Therefore, wireless communication is another choice for transmission. This paper proposes a transmission service to classify the transmitted data into three kinds of transmission events. Three priority queues are used to receive the corresponding events and transmit these data according to their priority. By using this mechanism, some data that are out of date and not influencing the monitoring environment, could be discarded. In this way, the cost of transmitting data for monitoring is reduced. This paper also proposes mechanisms to handle data ordering and encoding problems. To verify the advantage of this transmission service, an implemented prototype is proposed based on the GSM short message system. The proposed prototype also compared the time and data loss rate with the unique queue, three queues mechanisms. The results show that the average wait time of the transmitted data packet and the transmission cost are reduced.[[sponsorship]]Chiao-Tung University[[notice]]補正完畢[[conferencetype]]國內[[conferencedate]]20020322~20020322[[iscallforpapers]]Y[[conferencelocation]]Hsin-Chu, Taiwa
