Loud, Proud and Prosperous! Report on the Mobility International USA International Symposium on Microcredit for Women with Disabilities
[Excerpt] MIUSA designed the International Symposium on Microcredit for Women with Disabilities in response to recommendations from women leaders with disabilities at WILD, at the Symposium in Beijing, and from our own experience with US-based international development programs. It seemed apparent that economic empowerment of women with disabilities was not high on any agenda – international aid agencies, development organizations, women’s programs, or even disability rights movements. Women with disabilities expressed that they – women with disabilities – would need to take leadership in this area, and that they needed particular knowledge and skills to be effective as leaders in this area

PENERAPAN STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN AKTIF TIPE STUDENT RECAP UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENULIS BERITA PADA SISWA KELAS VIII B SMP NEGERI 2 PALOH
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya nilai pada keterampilan menulis siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 2 Paloh, disebabkan yaitu siswa masih kurang menguasai kalimat yang akan digunakan dalam menulis serta siswa belum memahami dalam penulisan tanda baca. Tujuan secara khusus yang ingin dicapai oleh peneliti yaitu Peningkatan hasil, Keterlaksanaan, Respon siswa setelah menerapkan strategi pembelajaran student recap untuk keterampilan menulis berita pada siswa kelas VIII B SMP Negeri 2 Paloh. Bentuk penelitian ini pre-eksperimental dengan rancangan one group pretest-postest. Dalam rancangan penelitian ini dilakukan pengukuran berupa pretest kemudian diberikan perlakuan dengan jangka waktu tertentu, kemudian dilakukan pengukuran berupa posttest. Instrumen tes berupa tes essai yang telah diuji cobakan dengan reliabilitas 0,63 kriteria tinggi. Berdasarkan perbandingan tes awal (pretest) sebelum perlakuan dan tes akhir (posttest) setelah diberi perlakuan dengan strategi pembelajaran aktif tipe student recap diperoleh hasil nilai siswa posttest lebih tinggi dari nilai pretest, sehingga dieroleh nilai N-gain sebesar 0,49 dengan kriteria sedang. Keterlaksanaan strategi pembelajaran aktif tipe student recap pada materi menulis berita secara singkat, padat, dan jelas memperoleh nilai sebesar 91,17%. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelaksanaan materi menulis berita secara singkat, padat, dan jelas dengan menulis berita melalui penerapan strategi pembelajaran aktif tipe student recap di kelas VIII B SMP Negeri 2 Paloh dapat dikatakan meningkat

Human liver carboxylesterase 1 structure, polymorphism and its role in drug and prodrug activation and metabolism
The human carboxylesterase 1 or CES1 is an enzyme predominantly expressed in the liver where numerous hydrolytic reactions take place. It is believed that this enzyme is responsible for approximately 80% of hydrolytic activity in the liver and leaves the rest of 20% to its counterpart enzyme, human carboxylesterase 2 (CES2). CES1 plays a critical role in hydrolysis of numerous compounds which contain ester- and amide-bonds, including drugs, prodrugs, endobiotics, and xenobiotics. Owing to its significant role, extensive studies have been carried out to investigate its gene structure and polymorphisms, protein structure and function as well as many other aspects. The present review highlights the importance of the structure of CES1 in regard to its function and catalytic activity. Additionally, it was found that CES1 catalytic activity can be influenced by variations or SNPs in DNA coding region, promoter region as well as 5’ untranslated region of CES1. These alterations in the catalytic activity of an enzyme have been shown to associate with clinical outcomes. Therefore, polymorphisms related to functional activity of CES1 in the hydrolysis of drugs and prodrugs are also discussed
