    Variational methods for solving nonlinear boundary problems of statics of hyper-elastic membranes

    A number of important results of studying large deformations of hyper-elastic shells are obtained using discrete methods of mathematical physics. In the present paper, using the variational method for solving nonlinear boundary problems of statics of hyper-elastic membranes under the regular hydrostatic load, we investigate peculiarities of deformation of a circular membrane whose mechanical characteristics are described by the Bidermann-type elastic potential. We develop an algorithm for solving a singular perturbation of nonlinear problem for the case of membrane loaded by heavy liquid. This algorithm enables us to obtain approximate solutions both in the presence of boundary layer and without it. The class of admissible functions, on which the variational method is realized, is chosen with account of the structure of formal asymptotic expansion of solutions of the corresponding linearized equations that have singularities in a small parameter at higher derivatives and in the independent variable. We give examples of calculations that illustrate possibilities of the method suggested for solving the problem under consideration

    The impact of the foundations of taoism on the development of oriental medical practices

As a result, their therapy is not pathogenetic, but symptomatic. Against this background, it becomes clear the desire of patients to understand what is happening to their body, so that their interests are often shifted towards the use of oriental medicine, the theoretical foundation of which are some provisions of the philosophy of Taoism. It is necessary to pay due attention to the study of the theoretical foundations of oriental medicine, as they determine the necessary direction of treatment. The aim of the work is to identify the impact of the foundations of Taoism on the development of medical practices of oriental (integrative) medicine. The performed analysis allowed us to draw the following conclusions: Taoist doctrine of human functioning was the basis for the development of methods of oriental medicine, currently used in various pathologies. The most actively used techniques are based on the doctrine of acupuncture points and Chi energy circulation

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by a CAG repeat expansion mutation in the coding region of a novel gene. The mechanism of HD is unknown. Most data suggest that polyglutamine-mediated aggregation associated with expression of mutant huntingtin protein (mhtt) contributes to the pathology. However, recent studies have identified early cellular dysfunctions that preclude aggregate formation. Suppression of aggregation is accepted as one of the markers of successful therapeutic approaches. Previously, we demonstrated that tricyclic pyrone (TP) compounds efficiently inhibited formation of amyloid-β (Aβ) aggregates in cell and mouse models representing Alzheimer's Disease (AD). In the present study, we aimed to determine whether TP compounds could prevent aggregation and restore early cellular defects in primary embryonic striatal neurons from animal model representing HD.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>TP compounds effectively inhibit aggregation caused by mhtt in neurons and glial cells. Treatment with TP compounds also alleviated cholesterol accumulation and restored clathrin-independent endocytosis in HD neurons.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>We have found that TP compounds not only blocked mhtt-induced aggregation, but also alleviated early cellular dysfunctions that preclude aggregate formation. Our data suggest TP molecules may be used as lead compounds for prevention or treatment of multiple neurodegenerative diseases including HD and AD.</p

    The article explores QSPR models for predicting the lypophilicity of chemicals in the adamantane family. The study of the lypophilicity parameter is carried out using the developed nonlinear models using absolute entropy. Computational experiments have been performed, showing the high efficiency of the proposed QSPR dependencies. В статье исследуются QSPR модели предсказания липофильности химических веществ семейства адамантанов. Исследование параметра липофильности осуществляется с помощью разработанных нелинейных моделей с использованием абсолютной энтропии. Проведены вычислительные эксперименты, показывающие высокую эффективность предложенных QSPR зависимостей.

    The monitoring of dirty electricity in A secondary school in kazan, republic of tatarstan, Russia

    Electromagnetic fields from electronic equipment are detrimental environmental factors. Recently, a new type of electromagnetic pollution referred to as "dirty electricity" was discovered to affect human health. The current research measures levels of dirty electricity in one secondary school in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. A Microsurge II meter that measures high frequency transients and harmonics between 4 to 100 kHz (expressed as Graham-Stetzer units) was used in this study. Levels of dirty electricity were elevated in all areas of the school and the installation of Graham-Stetzer filters significantly reduced these levels. Taking into account the detrimental effects of the dirty electricity on human health, plugging one Graham-Stetzer filter into each classroom is highly recommended. © PSP Volume 18 - No 6. 2009
