    Get PDF
This paper introduces a new approach in mathematics learning within culture and nation character. Indonesian traditional dances are used as a context in learning the concept of symmetry. Using context as a starting point in learning processes is the major concern in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), one of the innovations in mathematics teaching developed in the Netherlands. Adapted to Indonesian culture, this approach is called Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI). This approach is used to combine the so-called math traditional dances with mathematics learning. This can be seen as building nation character in appreciating Indonesian traditional culture. Design research is used in research methodology. This research was conducted to 22 students in grade IV at MIN 2 Palembang. The result shows that within the use of culture and nation character in learning mathematic can improve students’ understanding of the concept of symmetry. Besides, students can optimize cultural values which indirectly showed in learning process such as accuracy, perseverance, hard work, curiosity, and unyielding attitude. Key Words: PMRI, design research, math traditional dance, symmetry, nation character

Computational Thinking Skills Indicators in Number Patterns

    Get PDF
This research aims to examine a) what computational thinking indicators have been developed by researchers, b) what computational thinking indicators can be used in learning mathematics appropriately, and c) how to describe the development of student computational thinking indicators from the answers of computational thinking tests. This research is a qualitative descriptive study through a process of collecting data from literature reviews, integrated computational thinking math tests, and interviews. Data collection instruments used research notes, interview sheets, and CT question sheets. The results showed that a) 20 computational thinking indicators had been studied by researchers, b) computational thinking indicators that could be used in learning mathematics include problem decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, procedural algorithms, and generalizations, and c) From the student answers, five proposed computational thinking indicators can be developed even though they were not perfect. The general implication of this research is that there are five indicators of computational thinking skills that can be used in mathematics learning, specifically in number patterns, which include problem decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, pattern recognition, procedural algorithm, and generalization. The researchers developed all five computational thinking skills indicators in the instructional designs of not only the number pattern concept but also combination, geometry, combinatorics, etc

This study aims to analyze the application of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on fractions topic in elementary schools. The method used is a systematic literature review. The sample consisted of 32 primary studies on the effect of RME on Mathematics learning on fractions, which were drawn from all related studies. The study results were taken from indexed journals published in the 2016-2020 period. The key question in this research is how to describe the effect of RME on fraction material in elementary schools in terms of the study year, study level, research subject, research methodology, and research results. Through the systematic literature review method it was found that there had been an increase in research during the last 5 years. based on the level of study, research research in the higher class is more dominant, based on the duration of the majority. The research was conducted in elementary schools, and based on the number of samples, the research was conducted in classes with 20-30 subjects or more. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained data that there was an increase in still learning fraction topic using the RME approach

The background of this research was the development of blended learning in teaching mathematics. This study aimed to determine the benefits of blended learning in teaching mathematics by analyzing previous research. The method in this study is a systematic literature review (SLR), it descriptive based survey in the form of an analysis of 25 articles from the Science Direct database in the 2010-2020 period. The results showed that there are many benefits of blended learning in mathematic, which includes:  to improve mathematical thinking skills, develop good perceptions, improve learning outcomes, increase self-regulation, increase thinking/problem-solving skills, improve communication skills, increase student participation, simplify the assessment process, increase computational thinking skills, and critical thinking skills. The most significant benefit of blended learning is student learning outcomes, shown in 52% of the articles. The research implies the importance of supporting teachers in identifying the objectives of blended learning.

Penerapan Hybrid Learning di Perguruan Tinggi Indonesia: Literatur Review

    Get PDF
