    Instability of Massive Scalar Fields in Kerr-Newman Spacetime

    We investigate the instability of charged massive scalar fields in Kerr-Newman spacetime. Due to the super-radiant effect of the background geometry, the bound state of the scalar field is unstable, and its amplitude grows in time. By solving the Klein-Gordon equation of the scalar field as an eigenvalue problem, we numerically obtain the growth rate of the amplitude of the scalar field. Although the dependence of the scalar field mass and the scalar field charge on this growth rate agrees with the result of the analytic approximation, the maximum value of the growth rate is three times larger than that of the analytic approximation. We also discuss the effect of the electric charge on the instability of the scalar field.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures. Accepted for publication in Prog.Theor.Phy

    My thesis is about deconstruction of existentialism through visual images, or more precisely, deconstructive visual representations of existential themes. The question of human existence has been a primal interest in my work. What is the meaning of existence? How can I make sense of man\u27s unique intellectual capacity to question one\u27s own existence? My concern is not so much about coming up with the answer, but to have a language to disclose the condition. In the past, my work was merely the ambiguous expression of the existential feeling without any particular conceptual foundation. My work is now a manifestation of confrontation with the very awareness of existence. In this thesis project, my intention is to explore a more analytical approach to the representation of the subject, by applying the deconstructionist principle to the conception of my work. The objective of incorporating deconstructive thinking is to examine the nature of the relationship between the images and their meanings, and to investigate how the works of art construct and represent their overall concepts. In doing so, I intend to provide sufficient information on the deconstructonist practice, the existentialist concerns, and their relations to my work

    Comparison of the Calcium Distribution Pattern Among Several Kinds of Hard Tissue Forming Cells of Some Living Vertebrates

    We investigated the ultrastructural distribution of calcium in several kinds of hard tissue forming cells (secretory and maturation ameloblasts, odontoblasts osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and osteodentine forming cells) of mammals, amphibians, and fish by use of the potassium pyroantimonate technique. The calcium distribution pattern is compared among these cells, and its biological significance is discussed. Except for mammalian odontoblasts, all types of the hard tissue forming cells exhibited fundamentally the same distribution pattern of calcium; the antimonate reaction product was mainly localized on the inner face of the plasmalemma and inside mitochondria. On the other hand, in mammalian odontoblasts, the reaction product was found within secretory granules and in the intercellular spaces. Thus, the calcium distribution pattern in odontoblasts of lower vertebrates differed from that of mammalian odontoblasts and was similar to that of the osteoblasts or chondrocytes of the vertebrates examined. The differences in calcium distribution pattern among these hard tissue forming cells were not related to their origin, ectodermal or mesodermal (ectomesenchymal). We suggest on the basis of previous studies cited in this paper and of the present data that they are closely associated with the phylogeny and physiological system of Ca-ATPase
