Estimating parameters of a multipartite loglinear graph model via the EM algorithm

We will amalgamate the Rash model (for rectangular binary tables) and the newly introduced α\alpha-β\beta models (for random undirected graphs) in the framework of a semiparametric probabilistic graph model. Our purpose is to give a partition of the vertices of an observed graph so that the generated subgraphs and bipartite graphs obey these models, where their strongly connected parameters give multiscale evaluation of the vertices at the same time. In this way, a heterogeneous version of the stochastic block model is built via mixtures of loglinear models and the parameters are estimated with a special EM iteration. In the context of social networks, the clusters can be identified with social groups and the parameters with attitudes of people of one group towards people of the other, which attitudes depend on the cluster memberships. The algorithm is applied to randomly generated and real-word data

The construction of the relationship between ERP and the organisation through negotiation

    Get PDF
This paper questions the relationship between the ERP and the buyer’s organisation and the validity of the deterministic and social constructivism arguments in the ERP case. It follows the implementation of ERP in an international organisation and through the Actor Network Theory (ANT) analysis introduces the concept of negotiation as an account for the process of implementing ERP. The findings suggest that the relationship between the ERP and the organisation is constructed through negotiation that is not based on the pretext that one side would dominate the other. The issue then is not about domination but rather how the negotiation and controversy between them ends up. The paper ends by discussing the theoretical and practical implication of the findings

MAKING BUSINESS SENSE OF AMBIGIOUS TECHNOLOGY: THE CASE OF SECOND LIFE

    Get PDF
Second Life (SL) presents a case of extreme open flexible technology. It provides a generic 3D immersive environment with a range of technological capability including text, voice, build, and mobility. The technology and its providers do not prescribe a particular objective of use or value for users. Hence it is surrounded by ambiguity regarding the process of adoption and its value particularly for business organisations. This study explores the process of making business sense of Second Life and the resulting business value. It does so through examining the case of Mobile Office adoption of SL and the created business value. Applying the cognitive and interpretive concept of enactment as developed by Weick and colleagues, the findings show that SL adoption presents a process of enactment that involves humans and artefacts inside and outside the organisation. This process of enactment results in an emerging chain of innovation. Business value is then created in and through the enactment process. The contribution to theory and practice is then discussed

Khunaji's al-Jumal in the Context of Logic Studies in the Seventh and Eighth Century (AH) and the Commentaries Written on His Work

The science of logic has occupied an important role in Islamic history. Especially when al-Gazali 505-1111 has come and claimed that who learned Islamic sciences, without learning the Logic we cannot trust in his knowledge. From this time The science of logic has been flourished and quietly began to include in many sciences even Tefsir and Fiqh. After that, Al-razzi 606/1210 has established a big school in Islamic philosophy in general and in logic in particular. al-Khonaji 646/1248 one of his important students. Who moved from Iran to Egypt and became Qadi al-Qudat (Chief Islamic justice). He has improved The science of logic by his books; like Keshf al-Asrar. In the sixth/twelfth one of his books has been spread in Muslim world and became the first step for who wanted to learn Logic. Beside that we have a lot of scholars has made commentaries on this book. In this article we focused on (Metn al-Jumal) by al-Konaji with his spreading in the Sixth. Seventh h.centuries

THE ROOTS OF THE SOCIOMATERIAL THINKING IN INFORMATION SYSTEMS RESEARCH: A VIEW ON HISTORY AND METHODOLOGY (47)

    Get PDF
Researchers who want to adopt a sociomaterial approach often find themselves confused regarding research methods. The paper argues that this confusion can only be clarified through understanding the history and emergence of the sociomaterial thinking. The paper briefly reviews the roots of the sociomaterial thinking in the reference discipline of sociology and information systems. It invites researchers to seek methodological guidance from the wealth of knowledge that have been accumulated over the years
