THE IMPACT OF EXTENSIBLE BUSINESS REPORTING LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND ADOPTION OF STOCK EXCHANGE DEVELOPMENT: A FOCUS ON NIGERIA
The growing need for widely available and easily accessible financial information in the
financial markets has prompted the necessity for the knowledge and adoption of Extensible
Business Reporting Language (XBRL) as the standard format for presenting financial reports
across the globe. The impact of an efficient information distribution system like the Extensible
Business Reporting Language (XBRL) could help protect creditors, make cross border relations
more secure and support the competitiveness of financial markets This study aims at
investigating the impact of the possible learning and adoption of Extensible Business Reporting
Language (XBRL) in the Nigerian Stock Exchange. The data used for this study were gathered
through the instruments of a questionnaire and secondary sources. One hundred and Fifty (150)
copies of a questionnaire were administered, out ofwhich one hundred and thirty-one (131) were
collated for analysis. To achieve the objectives of this study, three hypotheses were formulated
from the structure of research questions. Kruskal-Wallis and descriptive statistical tools were
used in testing these hypotheses. Findings show that environmental factors and problems in the
Nigerian Stock exchange will affect the learning and implementation of XBRL in the Stock
Exchange as well as the fact that certain infrastructure must be put in place before the
implementation of XBRL. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the Federal
government should announce and compel the educational awareness and adoption of XBRL as a
format for regulatory filing and financial reporting in the Nigerian Stock Exchange
Enhancing The Quality Of Higher Education In Africa: Exploring The Covenant University Business Model
It is not in doubt that higher education is a tool of high value to the welfare of any society. However,
most of the Universities in Africa are reputed for producing 'half-baked' graduates, unfit for
employment anywhere. This has been confirmed in a recent study conducted by the Inter-University
Council for East Africa on the quality of graduates in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
It was found that between 51 perc~nt and 63 percent of graduates from these countries were 'halfbaked.'
In order to reverse this ai1l:l other negative trends affecting higher education, Covenant
University (CU) has set out to achieve the goal of transforming higher education in African. The
objective of this paper, therefore, is to bring into focus the relevance of Covenant University Business
Model for enhancing the quality of higher education in Nigeria. The model is considered to offer the
right approach as the acquisition and understanding of higher education issues turn away from a focus
on the learner 'just finishing the training' to the more holistic approach of actively assimilating, in a
congenial environment, what is learnt for further use
Managing Employees In Higher Education Transformation: Exploring The Goal Of Vision 10: 2022 Of Covenant University, Nigeria
Education is a tool of high value to the welfare of any society as it is crucial to the resolution of
complex problems and development challenges in the world today. It is in this regard that, Covenant
University (CU) has set out to achieV,.e the goal of transforming higher education by becoming one of
the best ten universities in the wor1&1>y the year, 2022 (otherwise known as Vision 1 0:2022). Thus,
the objective of this study is to investigate the preparedness of the employees to accept the CU vision
and the factors that would significantly motivate the desired level of acceptance. This is important
because organizations can hardly grow beyond the quality and support of their workforce. The study
utilized data collected from a randomly selected sample of both academic and administrative
employees of the university. Thereafter, regression analysis was performed to identify the
determinants of acceptance of the vision 10:2022. The results of this study show that the vision has
the potential to be actualized within the set period. However, the management of the university should
take proactive steps to address the factors which have been identified in the study)hat cou ld constrain
the effective implementation and actualization of the vision. This is critical , especially that the mean
score for the acceptance of the vision is moderate. Given the time frame within which the vision is
expected to be actualized, the moderate score needs to be improved upon by strengthening the
variables currently impacting the vision positively and addressing those others that have the potential
to stall effective implementation and actualization. To this end, management should address f)1ore
specifically the issues bordering on job security, promotion, trust and adopt a more participative
approach to managemen
