Ms. temp. no. 171Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark brown leather ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in untinted paper ; upper and lower covers carry border and diagonal lines intersecting the center of the panel in blind rules ; sewn in brown thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in pink and lavender, fairly good condition ; overall in somewhat poor condition with abrasion, staining, losses to boards, etc.Support: non-European (likely Persian or Indian) laid paper with 6-7 laid lines per cm. Transcription finished ("faragha min taḥrīrih...") 5 Ṣafar 917 [ca. 4 May 1511].Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 140, Al-Nafi."Binding: Pasteboards (recycled paper) originally covered with reddish brown goat skin, spine and fore-edge flap repaired with lighter brown leather, now darker with age ; Type II binding (with flap) ; upper and lower covers carry gorgeous blind-tooled almond-shaped ornament (mandorla) with band and geometric infilling set off by rosette stamps (compare Weisweiler 89-95) as well as tooled rule borders and rosette accents ; sewn in two sewing stations, dark green thread, broken at head and tail ; endbands in maroon and white, partially intact at head and tail ; in poor condition ; leather has shrunk significantly with text-block protruding ; bottom of spine partially detatched ; top endband missing, bottom partially gone ; severe abrasion on all corners ; pasteboards delaminating ; spine partially detached from back cover ; fore-edge flap is stitched to back cover at hinge (sewn mend).Support: European laid paper with roughly 10 laid lines per cm.
