ENVIRONMENTAL SURROUNDINGS AND PERSONAL WELL-BEING IN URBAN CHINA
We examine the relationship between atmospheric pollution, water pollution, traffic congestion, access to parkland and personal well-being using a survey administered across six Chinese cities in 2007. In contrast to existing studies of the determinants of well-being by economists, which have typically employed single item indicators to measure well-being, we use the Personal Well-Being Index (PWI). We also employ the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) to measure job satisfaction, which is one of the variables for which we control when examining the relationship between environmental surroundings and personal well-being. Previous research by psychologists has shown the PWI and JSS to have good psychometric properties in western and Chinese samples. A robust finding is that in cities with higher levels of atmospheric pollution and traffic congestion, respondents report lower levels of personal well-being ceteris paribus. We find that a one standard deviation increase in suspended particles or sulphur dioxide emissions is roughly equivalent to a 12-13 percent reduction in average monthly income in the six cities. This result suggests that the personal well-being of China's urban population can be enhanced if China were to pursue a more balanced growth path which curtailed atmospheric pollution.China, Environment, Pollution, Personal Well-Being.

Hybrid attention mechanism of feature fusion for medical image segmentation
Abstract Traditional convolution neural networks (CNN) have achieved good performance in multi‐organ segmentation of medical images. Due to the lack of ability to model long‐range dependencies and correlations between image pixels, CNN usually ignores the information of channel dimension. To further improve the performance of multi‐organ segmentation, a hybrid attention mechanism model is proposed. First, a CNN was used to extract multi‐scale feature maps and fed into the Channel Attention Enhancement Module (CAEM) to selectively pay attention to target organs in medical images, and the Transformer encoded tokenized image patches from CNN feature maps as the input sequence to model long‐range dependencies. Second, the decoder upsampled the output from Transformer and fused with the CAEM features in multi‐scale through skip connections. Finally, we introduced a Refinement Module (RM) after the decoder to improve feature correlations of the same organ and the feature discriminability between different organs. The model outperformed on dice coefficient (%) and hd95 on both the synapse multi‐organ segmentation and cardiac diagnosis challenge datasets. Zebrafish perceive biological motion in a gravity-dependent manner
Biological motion (BM), depicted by a handful of point lights attached to the major joints, conveys rich animacy information, which is significantly disrupted if BM is shown upside down. This well-known inversion effect in BM perception is conserved in terrestrial vertebrates and is presumably a manifestation of an evolutionarily endowed perceptual filter (i.e., life motion detector) tuned to gravity-compatible BM. However, it remains unknown whether aquatic animals, living in a completely different environment from terrestrial animals, perceive BM in a gravity-dependent manner. Here, taking advantage of their typical shoaling behaviors, we used zebrafish as a model animal to examine the ability of teleosts to discriminate between upright (gravity-compatible) and inverted (gravity-incompatible) BM signals. We recorded their swimming trajectories and quantified their preference based on dwelling time and head orientation. The results obtained from three experiments consistently showed that zebrafish spent significantly more time swimming in proximity to and orienting towards the upright BM relative to the inverted BM or other gravity-incompatible point-light stimuli (i.e., the non-BM). More intriguingly, when the recorded point-light video clips of fish were directly compared with those of human walkers and pigeons, we could identify a unique and consistent pattern of accelerating movements in the vertical (gravity) direction. These findings, to our knowledge, demonstrate for the first time the inversion effect in BM perception in simple aquatic vertebrates and suggest that the evolutionary origin of gravity-dependent BM processing may be traced back to ancient aquatic animals

Efficacy and Safety of EUS-Guided Choledochoduodenostomy Using Electrocautery-Enhanced Lumen-Apposing Metal Stents (ECE-LAMS) in the Treatment of Biliary Obstruction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background. Electrocautery-enhanced lumen-apposing metal stents (ECE-LAMS) have been newly developed to perform EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy (EUS-CDS), but its benefits and harms remain obscure. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of EUS-CDS using ECE-LAMS. Method. In the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), we searched PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases through January 1, 2001, and April 27, 2020. The primary outcomes of the pooled analysis were to determine the technical success, clinical success, and overall adverse events rates. The secondary outcomes were pooled rates of short-term and long-term adverse events. Results. Six studies with 270 patients were finally included in this meta-analysis. The pooled rates of technical, clinical success, and adverse events were 95.1% (95% CI = 90.6–97.5%, I2 = 25%), 93.3% (95% CI = 87.4–96.5%, I2 = 28%), and 15.3% (95% CI = 10.6–21.6%, I2 = 13%), respectively. The pooled rates of short-term and long-term adverse events were 3.6% (95% CI = 1.3–9.6%, I2 = 0%) and 11.3% (95% CI = 7.6–16.5%, I2 = 0%), respectively. Conclusion. EUS-CDS using ECE-LAMS provides favorable outcomes in patients with biliary obstruction. It has been associated with a higher success rate and a lower rate of adverse events when compared with the biliary drainage approaches previously used. Large and randomized controlled observational studies are required to further refine the findings in the present analysis
