    Produção De Minitomate Em Sistema Orgânico Sob Ambientes Protegidos Com Controle Parcial De Elementos Meteorológicos

    The objective of this research was to evaluate the meteorological elements of the environments and the production components of mini tomato crop in organic system in different forms of cultivation, biofertilizer doses and technological levels of protected environments. The research was conducted in completely randomized design in a 3 × 2 × 5 factorial scheme, corresponding to three greenhouses (A - climatized, B - mobile screen and C - fixed screen), two forms of cultivation (pots and beds) and five doses of a commercial biofertilizer (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200% of dose indicated), with five replicates. The treatments affected the analyzed variables, except for biofertilizer doses and interaction of treatments. Air temperature was unchanged among the environments and the mean and minimum relative humidity were within the control range in the climatized greenhouse. The greenhouse with mobile screen showed the best production results for the cultivation in beds and the biofertilizer doses were indifferent for all treatments. © 2016, Departamento de Engenharia Agricola - UFCG/Cnpq.     Substratos De Fibra De Coco Granulada E Casca De Arroz Para A Produção Do Morangueiro ‘oso Grande’

    The strawberry, when grown in soil, becomes susceptible to fungi present on it. Rotations of planted areas are essential to control disease, reality unworkable for some Brazilian farmers who have small areas for cultivation. This problem encouraged the use of substrates, a technical pattern already well-established in Europe. The objective was to assess the response of strawberry growth (‘Oso Grande’) on three substrates (granulated coconut fiber, pure rice husk and a mixture of both in equal proportions), volumes (1.0; 1.5 and 2.0 L) and irrigation frequencies (twice, three and four times a day). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in Jundiaí (SP), from July 2 to October 4, 2010. The data were submitted to the joint analysis of experiments, in a triple factorial scheme (irrigation frequencies, substrate types and substrate volumes). The best result obtained occurred for substrate mixture, with the irrigation frequency of three times a day, in 1.0 L of the material, with an average yield of 223 g per plant. Rice husk is ineffective for cultivation in pots. Nevertheless, in the form of mixtures, this substrate is suited for cultivation, allowing better results when compared to granulated coconut fiber. © 2016, Instituto Agronomico.     Impaired Bacillus Calmette-guérin Cellular Immune Response In Hiv-exposed, Uninfected Infants

    OBJECTIVE:: To evaluate cell-mediated immune response to Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination in uninfected, HIV-1-exposed infants, comparing it with unexposed children. DESIGN:: It is designed as a cross-sectional study. METHODS:: BCG-specific lymphoproliferation and T-cell subsets (CD4, CD8 and TCR γδ) by flow cytometry and interleukin-10, interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) concentration by ELISA were analyzed in HIV-exposed and unexposed infants. Whole blood lymphocyte immunophenotyping and blood counts were performed in exposed children. Nonparametric tests were used (P < 0.05). RESULTS:: Given the ontogeny of the immune system, exposed infants were separated into three groups according to age: exposed 1 (E1, aged 6.1-8.8 months), E2 (aged 9.1-17.1 months) and E3 (aged 18.1-26.3 months). Unexposed infants (UE group) and E1 were matched for age. Cell proliferation was not different among the three exposed groups, neither for BCG nor for phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated cultures. Furthermore, BCG-stimulated lymphoproliferation was reduced in the E1 group in comparison with the UE group. T-lymphocyte subpopulations also showed differences, with the youngest HIV-exposed groups (E1 and E2) showing a predominant proliferation of CD4 T cells in cultures with BCG, whereas E3 and UE groups had a robust γδ T-cell expansion. There was lower IFN-γ concentration in the samples from E1 group in comparison with all of the other groups. The unexposed infants showed higher TNF-α concentration in cultures with BCG and PHA in comparison with E1 group. CONCLUSION:: BCG-specific T-cell proliferation was reduced in HIV-exposed uninfected infants and IFN-γ concentration was lower in younger exposed infants, showing a delay in immune system maturation
