Metallic single-electron transistor without traditional tunnel barriers
We report on a new type of single-electron transistor (SET) comprising two
highly resistive Cr thin-film strips (~ 1um long) connecting a 1 um-long Al
island to two Al outer electrodes. These resistors replace small-area oxide
tunnel junctions of traditional SETs. Our transistor with a total asymptotic
resistance of 110 kOhm showed a very sharp Coulomb blockade and reproducible,
deep and strictly e-periodic gate modulation in wide ranges of bias currents I
and gate voltages V_g. In the Coulomb blockade region (|V| < 0.5 mV), we
observed a strong suppression of the cotunneling current allowing appreciable
modulation curves V-V_g to be measured at currents I as low as 100 fA. The
noise figure of our SET was found to be similar to that of typical Al/AlOx/Al
single-electron transistors.Comment: 5 pages incl. 4 fig
Noise in Al single electron transistors of stacked design
We have fabricated and examined several Al single electron transistors whose
small islands were positioned on top of a counter electrode and hence did not
come into contact with a dielectric substrate. The equivalent charge noise
figure of all transistors turned out to be surprisingly low, (2.5 - 7)*10E-5
e/sqrt(Hz) at f = 10 Hz. Although the lowest detected noise originates mostly
from fluctuations of background charge, the noise contribution of the tunnel
junction conductances was, on occasion, found to be dominant.Comment: 4 pages of text with 1 table and 5 figure
Sustainable forest management of belarusian forests in accordance with european standards
There have been fullfilled sustainable forest management in Belarus. Criteria and indicators of sustainable forest management have been developed in Belarus according to Europeanstandards. Ministry of Forestry has confirmed and introduced both technical codes of standard practice (TCP) for different types of forestry activity and main requirements of technical codification system – technical standard acts (TCA)
Radio-frequency Bloch-transistor electrometer
A quantum-limited electrometer based on charge modulation of the Josephson
supercurrent in the Bloch transistor inserted into a superconducting ring is
proposed. As this ring is inductive coupled to a high-Q resonance tank circuit,
the variations of the charge on the transistor island (input signal) are
converted into variations of amplitude and phase of radio-frequency
oscillations in the tank. These variations are amplified and then detected. The
output noise, the back-action fluctuations and their cross-correlation are
computed. It is shown that our device enables measurements of the charge with a
sensitivity which is determined by the energy resolution of its amplifier, that
can be reduced down to the standard quantum limit of \hbar/2. On the basis of
this setup a "back-action-evading" scheme of the charge measurements is
proposed.Comment: 5 pages incl. 2 figure
Andreev Level Qubit
We investigate the dynamics of a two-level Andreev bound state system in a
transmissive quantum point contact embedded in an rf-SQUID. Coherent coupling
of the Andreev levels to the circulating supercurrent allows manipulation and
read out of the level states. The two-level Hamiltonian for the Andreev levels
is derived, and the effect of interaction with the quantum fluctuations of the
induced flux is studied. We also consider an inductive coupling of qubits, and
discuss the relevant SQUID parameters for qubit operation and read out.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Microchannel avalanche photodiode with wide linearity range
Design and physical operation principles of new microchannel avalanche
photodiode (MC APD) with gain up to 10^5 and linearity range improved an order
of magnitude compared to known similar devices. A distinctive feature of the
new device is a directly biased p-n junction under each pixel which plays role
of an individual quenching resistor. This allows increasing pixel density up to
40000 per mm^2 and making entire device area sensitive.Comment: Submitted to Journal of Technical Physic
Multiple Current States of Two Phase-Coupled Superconducting Rings
The states of two phase-coupled superconducting rings have been investigated.
Multiple current states have been revealed in the dependence of the critical
current on the magnetic field. The performed calculations of the critical
currents and energy states in a magnetic field have made it possible to
interpret the experiment as the measurement of energy states into which the
system comes with different probabilities because of the equilibrium and
non-equilibrium noises upon the transition from the resistive state to the
superconducting state during the measurement of the critical currentComment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Formation of Multicharged Ions at Quasi-Gasdynamic Plasma Confinement in a Mirror trap
It was shown in [1] that an increase in plasma density Ne in sources of multicharged ions leads to a substantial increase of ion current and improves slightly the ion distribution over charge states. Validity of this statement was verified in experiments with plasma densities not exceeding several units of 1012 cm-3. It was revealed [2] that, for the electron densities exceeding 1013 cm-3, the regime of plasma confinement in a trap changes significantly, the scaling described in [1] is no longer valid, and the quasi-gasdynamic regime of plasma confinement is realized. The plasma confinement time ti in this regime weakly depends on electron density. Consequently, the parameter governing formation of multicharged ions, Neti , grows as the electron density is increased. This means that an increase in plasma density results not only in an increase in the total ion current but also in the shift of the ion charge state distribution towards higher charge states. The present work concerns experimental investigation of the quasi-gasdynamic regime of confinement of a hot plasma in a direct magnetic trap and formation of multicharged ions in this regime. Experiments were conducted on the setup described in detail in [3]. Millimeter wave radiation with maximum power W=130 kW, frequency f=37.5 GHz, and pulse duration up to 1.5 ms was focused along magnetic field lines into a simple mirror trap with mirror ratio 3.4, length 25 cm, and maximum magnetic field 2.5 T. The temperature and density of the electrons were determined from spectral analysis of X-ray bremsstrahlung of plasma in the 2-20 keV range and from the transmission factor of diag-nostic microwave radiation through the plasma. It is concluded that a quasi-gasdynamic regime of plasma confinement is realized. Ion distribution over charge states in the quasi-gasdynamic regime is calculated and the re-sults obtained are compared with experimental data. A strong effect of anisotropy of the electron distribution function over energies on the efficiency of plasma confinement and formation of multicharged ions is considered. Problems of plasma stability in an axisymmetric mirror trap un-der powerful microwave pumping are addressed
Nonideal quantum detectors in Bayesian formalism
The Bayesian formalism for a continuous measurement of solid-state qubits is
derived for a model which takes into account several factors of the detector
nonideality. In particular, we consider additional classical output and
backaction noises (with finite correlation), together with quantum-limited
output and backaction noises, and take into account possible asymmetry of the
detector coupling. The formalism is first derived for a single qubit and then
generalized to the measurement of entangled qubits.Comment: 10 page
