    Image morphing provides the tool to generate the flexible and powerful visual effect. Morphing depicts the transformation of one image into another image. The process of image morphing starts with the feature specification phase and then proceeds to warp generation phase, followed by the transition control phase.     Technologies today claim to be capable of detecting human emotion. When such technologies appear on our everyday objects, how will our interactions be like? Can these objects know when we are frustrated with them? Wouldn’t that radically change the field of user experience design? However, would people be scared of such capability? Born from this curiosity, this thesis project is a speculative and an experimental approach that explores the overlap of the fields of User Experience Design, Affective Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence. This exploration is aimed at investigating its need and illustrating a newly designed adaptive nature of domestic appliances.     Novel Synthesis of a Solid Silver Oxalate Complex Used for Printing Conductive Traces.

    A solid silver – ligand complex, m-oxolato-bis(ethylenediaminesilver(I)) was developed for formulating particle-free conductive inks. The complex has approximately 47% silver content by weight and is soluble in ink-jet compatible polar solvents. Aqueous ink formulations for the inkjet printing was developed to print uniform films on glass and polyimide substrates. When cured, printed films comprising crystalline metallic silver was determined by XRD. Optimized curing conditions were found to be 120°C for less than five minutes, which may be compatible with high throughput printing. Cured films demonstrated better adhesion on polyimide substrates than on glass. This study has improved the state of the art material used for MOD inks and provided a method for printing on a variety of flexible electronic form factors

    Response Surface Analysis of Trapped-Vortex Augmented Airfoils

    In this study, the effect of a passive trapped-vortex cell on lift to drag (L/D) ratio of an FFA-W3-301 airfoil is studied. The upper surface of the airfoil was modified to incorporate a cavity defined by seven parameters. The L/D ratio of the airfoil is modeled using a radial basis function metamodel. This model is used to find the optimal design parameter values that give the highest L/D. The numerical results indicate that the L/D ratio is most sensitive to the position on an airfoil’s upper surface at which the cavity starts, the position of the end point of the cavity, and the vertical distance of the cavity end point relative to the airfoil surface. The L/D ratio can be improved by locating the cavity start point at the point of separation for a particular angle of attack. The optimal cavity shape (o19_aXX) is also tested for a NACA0024 airfoil
