Abstract

Background

To retrospectively review the incidence, treatment efficacy, we followed up newly diagnosed chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) patients residing in Shanghai during 2001-2006.

Methods

All eligible cases were reviewed with the data of efficacy responses as well as overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) time.

Results

A total of 615 cases entered the study. CML mainly afflicted those aged 40-60 years old and was slightly more frequent in males than females. More than 85% of the patients were in chronic phase (CP) when diagnosed. All patients were divided into four groups based on the main regimens - hydroxyurea, interferon alpha (IFN-α), imatinib, and hemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). With the median follow-up of 18 months, imatinib treatment induced 92.2% complete hematologic responses, and 64.3% complete cytogenetic responses among CML-CP patients. Overall the therapeutic efficacy in the imatinib group was higher than that in the hydroxyurea or IFN-α group. Meanwhile, in the imatinib group, all response rates of patients in CP were significantly greater than that in accelerated or blastic crisis phase. The patients treated with imatinib also showed the most promising results regarding OS and PFS. Patients receiving HSCT decreased markedly in number with the introduction of imatinib.

Conclusions

The number of new patients arising in Shanghai increased from 2001 to 2006. There were still patients receiving hydroxyurea and IFN-α. As the first-line regime for CML, imatinib was less administered in Shanghai before, but has received considerable development and great responses since 2003.</p

SnO2Nanowire Arrays and Electrical Properties Synthesized by Fast Heating a Mixture of SnO2and CNTs Waste Soot

SnO2nanowire arrays were synthesized by fast heating a mixture of SnO2and the carbon nanotubes waste soot by high-frequency induction heating. The resultant SnO2nanowires possess diameters from 50 to 100 nm and lengths up to tens of mircrometers. The field-effect transistors based on single SnO2nanowire exhibit that as-synthesized nanowires have better transistor performance in terms of transconductance and on/off ratio. This work demonstrates a simple technique to the growth of nanomaterials for application in future nanoelectronic devices

High Diversity of Tick-associated Microbiota from Five Tick Species in Yunnan, China

Ticks are obligate blood-sucking vectors for multiple zoonotic diseases. In this study, tick samples were collected from Yunnan Province, China, which is well-known as the “Global Biodiversity Hotspot” in the world. This study aimed to clarify the microbial populations, including pathogens, associated with ticks and to identify the diversity of tick-borne microbiota in this region. The 16S rRNA full-length sequencing from pooled tick DNA samples and PCR amplification of pathogenic genera from individual samples were performed to understand tick-associated microbiota in this region. A total of 191 adult ticks of 5 tick species were included and revealed 11 phyla and 126 genera bacteria, including pathogenic Anaplasma , Ehrlichia , Candidatus Neoehrlichia, Rickettsia , Borrelia , and Babesia . Further identification suggested that Rickettsia sp. YN01 was a variant strain of Rickettsia spp. IG-1, but Rickettsia sp. YN02 and Rickettsia sp. YN03, were potentially two new SFGR species. This study revealed the complexity of ecological interactions between host and microbe and provided insight for the biological control of ticks. A high microbial diversity in ticks from Yunnan was identified, and more investigation should be undertaken to elucidate the pathogenicity in the area

Graph Neural Network-Guided Contrastive Learning for Sequential Recommendation

    No full text
Sequential recommendation uses contrastive learning to randomly augment user sequences and alleviate the data sparsity problem. However, there is no guarantee that the augmented positive or negative views remain semantically similar. To address this issue, we propose graph neural network-guided contrastive learning for sequential recommendation (GC4SRec). The guided process employs graph neural networks to obtain user embeddings, an encoder to determine the importance score of each item, and various data augmentation methods to construct a contrast view based on the importance score. Experimental validation is conducted on three publicly available datasets, and the experimental results demonstrate that GC4SRec improves the hit rate and normalized discounted cumulative gain metrics by 1.4% and 1.7%, respectively. The model can enhance recommendation performance and mitigate the data sparsity problem

Speech Recognition of Accented Mandarin Based on Improved Conformer

The convolution module in Conformer is capable of providing translationally invariant convolution in time and space. This is often used in Mandarin recognition tasks to address the diversity of speech signals by treating the time-frequency maps of speech signals as images. However, convolutional networks are more effective in local feature modeling, while dialect recognition tasks require the extraction of a long sequence of contextual information features; therefore, the SE-Conformer-TCN is proposed in this paper. By embedding the squeeze-excitation block into the Conformer, the interdependence between the features of channels can be explicitly modeled to enhance the model’s ability to select interrelated channels, thus increasing the weight of effective speech spectrogram features and decreasing the weight of ineffective or less effective feature maps. The multi-head self-attention and temporal convolutional network is built in parallel, in which the dilated causal convolutions module can cover the input time series by increasing the expansion factor and convolutional kernel to capture the location information implied between the sequences and enhance the model’s access to location information. Experiments on four public datasets demonstrate that the proposed model has a higher performance for the recognition of Mandarin with an accent, and the sentence error rate is reduced by 2.1% compared to the Conformer, with only 4.9% character error rate

Stability, Elastic and Electronic Properties of Ta2N by First-Principles Calculations

Owing to exploring the influence of the N atoms ordering in Ta2N compounds on their properties, the stability, elastic, and electronic properties of Ta2N compounds (Ta2N-I: P3¯ml and Ta2N-II: P3¯1m) were investigated using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. Ta2N-II is energetically favorable according to the enthalpy of formation. Elastic constants were employed to reveal the stronger resistance to deformation, but weaker anisotropy, in Ta2N-II. A ductile-brittle transition was found between Ta2N-I (ductile) and Ta2N-II (brittle). The partial density of states showed a stronger orbital hybridization of Ta-d and N-p in Ta2N-II, resulting in stronger covalent bonding. The charge density difference illustrated the interaction of the Ta-N bond and electron distribution of Ta2N

The Transcriptomes of the Crucian Carp Complex (Carassius auratus) Provide Insights into the Distinction between Unisexual Triploids and Sexual Diploids

Both sexual reproduction and unisexual reproduction are adaptive strategies for species survival and evolution. Unisexual animals have originated largely by hybridization, which tends to elevate their heterozygosity. However, the extent of genetic diversity resulting from hybridization and the genomic differences that determine the type of reproduction are poorly understood. In Carassius auratus, sexual diploids and unisexual triploids coexist. These two forms are similar morphologically but differ markedly in their modes of reproduction. Investigation of their genomic differences will be useful to study genome diversity and the development of reproductive mode. We generated transcriptomes for the unisexual and sexual populations. Genes were identified using homology searches and an ab initio method. Estimation of the synonymous substitution rate in the orthologous pairs indicated that the hybridization of gibel carp occurred 2.2 million years ago. Microsatellite genotyping in each individual from the gibel carp population indicated that most gibel carp genes were not tri-allelic. Molecular function and pathway comparisons suggested few gene expansions between them, except for the progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation pathway, which is enriched in gibel carp. Differential expression analysis identified highly expressed genes in gibel carp. The transcriptomes provide information on genetic diversity and genomic differences, which should assist future studies in functional genomics
