Active Learning with Expert Advice
Conventional learning with expert advice methods assumes a learner is always
receiving the outcome (e.g., class labels) of every incoming training instance
at the end of each trial. In real applications, acquiring the outcome from
oracle can be costly or time consuming. In this paper, we address a new problem
of active learning with expert advice, where the outcome of an instance is
disclosed only when it is requested by the online learner. Our goal is to learn
an accurate prediction model by asking the oracle the number of questions as
small as possible. To address this challenge, we propose a framework of active
forecasters for online active learning with expert advice, which attempts to
extend two regular forecasters, i.e., Exponentially Weighted Average Forecaster
and Greedy Forecaster, to tackle the task of active learning with expert
advice. We prove that the proposed algorithms satisfy the Hannan consistency
under some proper assumptions, and validate the efficacy of our technique by an
extensive set of experiments.Comment: Appears in Proceedings of the Twenty-Ninth Conference on Uncertainty

Complete and Consistent Chiral Transport from Wigner Function Formalism
Recently there has been significant interest in understanding the macroscopic
quantum transport in a many-body system of chiral fermions. A natural framework
for describing such a system which is generally out of equilibrium, is the
transport equation for its phase space distribution function. In this paper, we
obtain a complete solution of the covariant chiral transport for massless
fermions, by starting from the general Wigner function formalism and carrying
out a complete and consistent semiclassical expansion up to
order. In particular, we clarify certain subtle and
confusing issues surrounding the Lorentz non-invariance and frame dependence
associated with the 3D chiral kinetic theory. We prove that such frame
dependence is uniquely and completely fixed by an unambiguous definition of the
correction to the distribution function in each
reference frame
Exact Calculation of Ring Diagrams and the Off-shell Effect on the Equation of State
The partition function with ring diagrams at finite temperature is exactly
caluclated by using contour integrals in the complex energy plane. It contains
a pole part with temperature and momentum dependent mass and a phase shift part
induced by off-shell effect in hot medium. The thermodynamic potentials for
and interactions are calculated and compared with the
quasi-particle (pole) approximation. It is found that the off-shell effect on
the equation of state is remarkable.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures, refereces added, final version to appear in PR
