The Kina Model. A tool for exploring the spatial population development in China by large scale micro simulation
This paper is on work in progress. The China Model exists and runs fast and usually reliably although it still has very simple behavioural modules that do not produce very reliable results. The purpose of the paper is to present the structure, content, and current state of validity of the model.
Projective synchronization analysis for BAM neural networks with time-varying delay via novel control
In this paper, the projective synchronization of BAM neural networks with time-varying delays is studied. Firstly, a type of novel adaptive controller is introduced for the considered neural networks, which can achieve projective synchronization. Then, based on the adaptive controller, some novel and useful conditions are obtained to ensure the projective synchronization of considered neural networks. To our knowledge, different from other forms of synchronization, projective synchronization is more suitable to clearly represent the nonlinear systems’ fragile nature. Besides, we solve the projective synchronization problem between two different chaotic BAM neural networks, while most of the existing works only concerned with the projective synchronization chaotic systems with the same topologies. Compared with the controllers in previous papers, the designed controllers in this paper do not require any activation functions during the application process. Finally, an example is provided to show the effectiveness of the theoretical results
On the Philosophy of Subjectivity Education in China
This paper discusses the definition of the philosophical term subjectivity made by Chinese philosophers and the application of the philosophical subjectivity in Subjectivity Education led by Dina Pei and her associates. Subjectivity is the manifestation of the attributes of the subject in his objectification activity, mainly including autonomy, activeness and creativity. Subjectivity Education grafts the theories onto educational theories and has conducted experiments on a nation-wide scale in the past twenty years all over China. Progress of Research on the Clinical Application of Radiation Protection Agents
With the advancement of nuclear technology, there is an increasing exposure of individuals to ionizing radiation. Incidents of radiation exposure occur occasionally, with the risk of radiation damage continuously rising. Radiation protectants are employed to prevent, alleviate, and treat ionizing radiation injuries. However, many current radiation protectants exhibit potent side effects, and there is currently no clinically established radiation protectant in routine use. Researchers have persistently endeavored to explore effective and low-toxicity radiation protectants. This article primarily focuses on internationally approved radiation protectants such as amifostine, dexrazoxane, phosphoramide mustard, polyethylene glycol-conjugated phosphoramide mustard, and sargramostim. Additionally, it discusses some natural antioxidants, resveratrol, and mesenchymal stem cells, which are currently undergoing clinical trials and promising to offer new avenues for the prevention and treatment of radiation injuries
An Ethereum-compatible blockchain that explicates and ensures design-level safety properties for smart contracts
Smart contracts are crucial elements of decentralized technologies, but they
face significant obstacles to trustworthiness due to security bugs and
trapdoors. To address the core issue, we propose a technology that enables
programmers to focus on design-level properties rather than specific low-level
attack patterns. Our proposed technology, called Theorem-Carrying-Transaction
(TCT), combines the benefits of runtime checking and symbolic proof. Under the
TCT protocol, every transaction must carry a theorem that proves its adherence
to the safety properties in the invoked contracts, and the blockchain checks
the proof before executing the transaction. The unique design of TCT ensures
that the theorems are provable and checkable in an efficient manner. We believe
that TCT holds a great promise for enabling provably secure smart contracts in
the future. As such, we call for collaboration toward this vision
Abrupt drainage basin reorganization following a Pleistocene river capture
River capture is a dramatic natural process of internal competition through which mountainous landscapes evolve and respond to perturbations in tectonics and climate. River capture may occur when one river network grows at the expense of another, resulting in a victor that steals the neighboring headwaters. While river capture occurs regularly in numerical models, field observations are rare. Here we document a late Pleistocene river capture in the Yimeng Mountains, China that abruptly shifted 25 km^2 of drainage area from one catchment to another. River terraces and imbricated cobbles indicate that the main channel incised 27 m into granitic bedrock within 80 kyr, following the capture event, and upstream propagating knickpoints and waterfalls reversed the flow direction of a major river. Topographic analysis shows that the capture shifted the river basins far from topographic equilibrium, and active divide migration is propagating the effects of the capture throughout the landscape
Early-season crop mapping using improved artificial immune network (IAIN) and Sentinel data
Substantial efforts have been made to identify crop types by region, but few studies have been able to classify crops in early season, particularly in regions with heterogeneous cropping patterns. This is because image time series with both high spatial and temporal resolution contain a number of irregular time series, which cannot be identified by most existing classifiers. In this study, we firstly proposed an improved artificial immune network (IAIN), and tried to identify major crops in Hengshui, China at early season using IAIN classifier and short image time series. A time series of 15-day composited images was generated from 10 m spatial resolution Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data. Near-infrared (NIR) band and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were selected as optimal bands by pair-wise Jeffries–Matusita distances and Gini importance scores calculated from the random forest algorithm. When using IAIN to identify irregular time series, overall accuracy of winter wheat and summer crops were 99% and 98.55%, respectively. We then used the IAIN classifier and NIR and NDVI time series to identify major crops in the study region. Results showed that winter wheat could be identified 20 days before harvest, as both the producer’s accuracy (PA) and user’s accuracy (UA) values were higher than 95% when an April 1–May 15 time series was used. The PA and UA of cotton and spring maize were higher than 95% with image time series longer than April 1–August 15. As spring maize and cotton mature in late August and September–October, respectively, these two crops can be accurately mapped 4–6 weeks before harvest. In addition, summer maize could be accurately identified after August 15, more than one month before harvest. This study shows the potential of IAIN classifier for dealing with irregular time series and Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 image time series at early-season crop type mapping, which is useful for crop management
