    The impact of statin use before intensive care unit admission on patients with acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery

    Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a common and serious complication after cardiac surgery. The influence of statin use before surgery on the renal outcome of patients undergoing cardiac surgery is controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of statins on postoperative renal outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.Methods: We included CSA-AKI patients in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)—IV database and were divided into statin group and non-statin group according to whether they used statins before entering intensive care units (ICU). The main outcomes were hospitalization and 30-day mortality, and the secondary outcomes were 60-day mortality and 90-day mortality. We used propensity score matching (PSM) to adjust for confounding factors. The 95% confidence interval (CI) and risk ratio (RO) were calculated by the COX proportional regression model. At the same time, stratified analysis was used to explore whether the relationship between the statins use before intensive care units and mortality was different in each subgroup and whether the relationship between different doses of Atorvastatin and mortality was different.Result: We identified 675 pre-ICU statin users and 2095 non-statin users. In the COX proportional regression model, pre-ICU statin use was associated with decreased in-hospital (HR = 0.407, 95%confidence interval 0.278–0.595, p < 0.001) and 30-day mortality (HR = 0.407, 95%CI 0.279–0.595, p < 0.001). The survival rate of patients who took statins before entering ICU was significantly higher than that of those who did not use statins at 30 days, 60 days and 90 days. There is a significant interaction between patients with aged>65 years (HR = 0.373, 95%CI 0.240–0.581, p < 0.001), Acute kidney injury grade I (HR = 0.244, 95%CI 0.118–0.428, p < 0.001), and without post-myocardial infarction syndrome (HR = 0.344, 95%CI 0.218–0.542, p < 0.001). The mortality in hospital and 60 days of CSA-AKI patients treated with ≥80 mg Atorvastatin before operation was significantly reduced (p < 0.05).Conclusion: The pre-ICU statin use was significantly associated with decreased risk in hospital and 30-day mortality. The preoperative use of ≥80 mg Atorvastatin may improve the prognosis of CSA-AKI

    Digital Transformation in the Chinese Construction Industry: Status, Barriers, and Impact

    Digital transformation is the direction that the Chinese construction industry is moving toward. This paper aims to investigate its current status, major barriers, and potential impact. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire survey was carried out. The results show that 80% of enterprises where the industry experts work have already formulated digital transformation plans or made plans. Additionally, BIM software was the most commonly used digital technology. Furthermore, “Data Fragmentation”, “Lack of Core Technology”, “Weak Digital Infrastructure Allocation”, “Lack of Technical Personnel”, and “Lack of Technical Standards” were prominent barriers. Moreover, digital transformation was perceived to affect the procurement management mostly at a project level, and to affect the governance performance mostly at an enterprise level. These findings can provide scholars and practitioners with an in-depth understanding of digital transformation in the Chinese construction industry. They might also help policymakers formulate appropriate policies to promote digital transformation

    Secrecy Capacity Analysis Using Nonlinear Transmissions for Physical Layer Security

    In this paper, physical layer security is investigated, which is characterized by utilizing the physical layer characteristics to achieve secure transmissions without adopting encryption or decryption. In order to acquire the secrecy capacity, we propose to employ the nonlinear transmission, where the operating point of the power amplifier is set to be relatively high, so that the transmitted signal displays obvious nonlinear property. At the receiver side, the legitimate user can carry out the nonlinear reception scheme utilizing the predesigned training information, which is unavailable for the wiretap channel. Consequently, the eavesdropper could hardly decode the messages correctly from the received nonlinearly distorted signal, leading to an effective enhancement of secrecy capacity. To validate the secrecy performance of this approach, nonlinearity cancellation algorithm is employed at the confidential receiver, while OFDM and single carrier systems are exploited in the simulations. Numerical results show that the proposed nonlinear transmission method has the capability in achieving the secrecy capacity for physical layer security

    Identification of MicroRNAs in Helicoverpa armigera and Spodoptera litura Based on Deep Sequencing and Homology Analysis

    The current identification of microRNAs (miRNAs) in insects is largely dependent on genome sequences. However, the lack of available genome sequences inhibits the identification of miRNAs in various insect species. In this study, we used a miRNA database of the silkworm Bombyx mori as a reference to identify miRNAs in Helicoverpa armigera and Spodoptera litura using deep sequencing and homology analysis. Because all three species belong to the Lepidoptera, the experiment produced reliable results. Our study identified 97 and 91 conserved miRNAs in H. armigera and S. litura, respectively. Using the genome of B. mori and BAC sequences of H. armigera as references, 1 novel miRNA and 8 novel miRNA candidates were identified in H. armigera, and 4 novel miRNA candidates were identified in S. litura. An evolutionary analysis revealed that most of the identified miRNAs were insect-specific, and more than 20 miRNAs were Lepidoptera-specific. The investigation of the expression patterns of miR-2a, miR-34, miR-2796-3p and miR-11 revealed their potential roles in insect development. miRNA target prediction revealed that conserved miRNA target sites exist in various genes in the 3 species. Conserved miRNA target sites for the Hsp90 gene among the 3 species were validated in the mammalian 293T cell line using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. Our study provides a new approach with which to identify miRNAs in insects lacking genome information and contributes to the functional analysis of insect miRNAs.</p

    Smart manufacturing systems for Industry 4.0: Conceptual framework, scenarios, and future perspectives

    Information and communication technology is undergoing rapid development, and many disruptive technologies, such as cloud computing, Internet of Things, big data, and artificial intelligence, have emerged. These technologies are permeating the manufacturing industry and enable the fusion of physical and virtual worlds through cyber-physical systems (CPS), which mark the advent of the fourth stage of industrial production (i.e., Industry 4.0). The widespread application of CPS in manufacturing environments renders manufacturing systems increasingly smart. To advance research on the implementation of Industry 4.0, this study examines smart manufacturing systems for Industry 4.0. First, a conceptual framework of smart manufacturing systems for Industry 4.0 is presented. Second, demonstrative scenarios that pertain to smart design, smart machining, smart control, smart monitoring, and smart scheduling, are presented. Key technologies and their possible applications to Industry 4.0 smart manufacturing systems are reviewed based on these demonstrative scenarios. Finally, challenges and future perspectives are identified and discussed
