Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is presented in over 30% of cancer patients receiving highly/moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC/MEC). The currently recommended antiemetic therapy is merely based on the emetogenic level of chemotherapy, regardless of patient's individual risk factors. It is, therefore, critical to develop an approach for personalized management of CINV in the era of precision medicine.A number of variables were involved in the development of CINV. In the present study, we pooled the data from 2 multi-institutional investigations of CINV due to HEC/MEC treatment in Asian countries. Demographic and clinical variables of 881 patients were prospectively collected as defined previously, and 862 of them had full documentation of variables of interest. The data of 548 patients from Chinese institutions were used to identify variables associated with CINV using multivariate logistic regression model, and then construct a personalized prediction model of nomogram; while the remaining 314 patients out of China (Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan) entered the external validation set. C-index was used to measure the discrimination ability of the model. The predictors in the final model included sex, age, alcohol consumption, history of vomiting pregnancy, history of motion sickness, body surface area, emetogenicity of chemotherapy, and antiemetic regimens. The C-index was 0.67 (95% CI, 0.62-0.72) for the training set and 0.65 (95% CI, 0.58-0.72) for the validation set. The C-index was higher than that of any single predictor, including the emetogenic level of chemotherapy according to current antiemetic guidelines. Calibration curves showed good agreement between prediction and actual occurrence of CINV.This easy-to-use prediction model was based on chemotherapeutic regimens as well as patient's individual risk factors. The prediction accuracy of CINV occurrence in this nomogram was well validated by an independent data set. It could facilitate the assessment of individual risk, and thus improve the personalized management of CINV

Quantum Image Processing and Its Application to Edge Detection: Theory and Experiment

Processing of digital images is continuously gaining in volume and relevance, with concomitant demands on data storage, transmission and processing power. Encoding the image information in quantum-mechanical systems instead of classical ones and replacing classical with quantum information processing may alleviate some of these challenges. By encoding and processing the image information in quantum-mechanical systems, we here demonstrate the framework of quantum image processing, where a pure quantum state encodes the image information: we encode the pixel values in the probability amplitudes and the pixel positions in the computational basis states. Our quantum image representation reduces the required number of qubits compared to existing implementations, and we present image processing algorithms that provide exponential speed-up over their classical counterparts. For the commonly used task of detecting the edge of an image, we propose and implement a quantum algorithm that completes the task with only one single-qubit operation, independent of the size of the image. This demonstrates the potential of quantum image processing for highly efficient image and video processing in the big data era.Comment: 13 pages, including 9 figures and 5 appendixe

Gefitinib is an essential drug for NSCLC patients harboring EGFR sensitive mutations. The approved dose 250 mg/day is based on limited clinical trials, this research aims to explore the relationship between drug exposure and gefitinib response. C trough of 87 NSCLC patients harboring EGFR sensitive mutations were determined by LC-MS/MS. The median of C trough was 173.9 ng/ml (P25-P75, 130.5-231.2 ng/ml), and cutoff value 200 ng/ml was determined by X-Tile. The PFS between C trough < 200 ng/ml and C trough ≥ 200 ng/ml groups were not significantly different (17.3 VS 14.8 months; p = 0.258). C trough was not significantly associated with rash, diarrhea and hepatotoxicity. Non-smokers enjoyed longer PFS than smokers (18.7 VS 9.3 months; p = 0.025). The results showed that, for NSCLC patients with EGFR sensitive mutations, the PFS in lower trough concentration group were not inferior to that in higher trough concentration group and dose reduction is a rational suggestion for adjustment of dose regimen for aforementioned patients. More clinical trials are warranted to explore the precision dose schedule of gefitinib

ObjectiveCollege Students’ sleep quality and daytime dysfunction have become worse since the COVID-19 outbreak, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between sleep quality and daytime dysfunction among college students during the COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) period.MethodsThis research adopts the form of cluster random sampling of online questionnaires. From April 5 to 16 in 2022, questionnaires are distributed to college students in various universities in Fujian Province, China and the general information questionnaire and PSQI scale are used for investigation. SPSS26.0 was used to conduct an independent sample t-test and variance analysis on the data, multi-factorial analysis was performed using logistic regression analysis. The main outcome variables are the score of subjective sleep quality and daytime dysfunction.ResultsDuring the COVID-19 period, the average PSQI score of the tested college students was 6.17 ± 3.263, and the sleep disorder rate was 29.6%, the daytime dysfunction rate was 85%. Being female, study liberal art/science/ engineering, irritable (due to limited outdoor), prolong electronic entertainment time were associated with low sleep quality (p < 0.001), and the occurrence of daytime dysfunction was higher than other groups (p < 0.001). Logistics regression analysis showed that sleep quality and daytime dysfunction were associated with gender, profession, irritable (due to limited outdoor), and prolonged electronic entertainment time (p < 0.001).ConclusionDuring the COVID-19 epidemic, the sleep quality of college students was affected, and different degrees of daytime dysfunction have appeared, both are in worse condition than before the COVID-19 outbreak. Sleep quality may was inversely associated with daytime dysfunction

Service-Oriented Node Scheduling Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Markov Random Field Model

Future wireless sensor networks are expected to provide various sensing services and energy efficiency is one of the most important criterions. The node scheduling strategy aims to increase network lifetime by selecting a set of sensor nodes to provide the required sensing services in a periodic manner. In this paper, we are concerned with the service-oriented node scheduling problem to provide multiple sensing services while maximizing the network lifetime. We firstly introduce how to model the data correlation for different services by using Markov Random Field (MRF) model. Secondly, we formulate the service-oriented node scheduling issue into three different problems, namely, the multi-service data denoising problem which aims at minimizing the noise level of sensed data, the representative node selection problem concerning with selecting a number of active nodes while determining the services they provide, and the multi-service node scheduling problem which aims at maximizing the network lifetime. Thirdly, we propose a Multi-service Data Denoising (MDD) algorithm, a novel multi-service Representative node Selection and service Determination (RSD) algorithm, and a novel MRF-based Multi-service Node Scheduling (MMNS) scheme to solve the above three problems respectively. Finally, extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed scheme efficiently extends the network lifetime. This work is supported by the National Science Foundation of China under Grand No. 61370210 and the Development Foundation of Educational Committee of Fujian Province under Grand No. 2012JA12027.Cheng, H.; Su, Z.; Lloret, J.; Chen, G. Introduction: Treatment choice for NSCLC in China has not previously been reported. This paper explores the clinical practice and adherence to treatment guidelines for NSCLC. Methods: A specifically designed questionnaire was used. It consisted of personal information of the responders and treatment details (patient identification data was excluded). Questionnaires were delivered to doctors in 12 major cities in China. Doctors were asked to answer the questionnaires based on real cases in their daily practice. Results: 987 cases of NSCLC were included. In first-line chemotherapy, regimens were mostly platinum-based among which gemcitabine plus platinum was predominately used (27.4%), followed by docetaxel plus platinum (16.2%) and paclitaxel plus platinum (13.5%). In second-line therapy some were treated with single agents, such as docetaxel (12.9%), gefitinib (11.1%), pemetrexed (9.3%), and erlotinib (3.5%). 44.5% were with doublet therapy. Detection rate of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation was only 9.6% because of the limited prevalence of testing technology. EGFR mutation rate was 46.8%. EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) were used more frequently as salvage (14.8%) rather than upfront therapy (5.3%). Conclusions: This survey reveals the daily clinical treatment for NSCLC in China. Overall data showed modest adherence to the national guideline (NCCN guideline Chinese version) for first-line chemotherapy. We believe this survey is valuable to provide a reference for further clinical trial design and policy making. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
